I apologize in advance for using the wrong thread - but any word on what Kaasa is planning on for after high school?

Put me down for Lenz. She has been a difference maker for WBL.

Soft game for Lenz vs Forest Lake, 4-3 fl with 4 minutes to go, strong goaltending didn't win this game, a solid and under appreciated White Bear team did. They have a lot of talent that can strike at any time, hats off to the White Bear Team. A couple of dribblers could have cost them the game but perserveered to a 5-4 Win.

Maybe, I heard she traveled to Winona to look at St Mary's earlier in the day. Might have been a little tired. I thought she lacked a little help though. She stuffed a breakaway that nobody cleared after she made a great save and #25 got the rebound. The first goal, she also made the first save and the rebound ended up in the net again no help. The dribbler you were talking about? I was behind the net at that end, she had it frozen, the ref did not blow the whistle and the FL girl pushed her and the puck into the net. I agree to a point though, she was not as intense as usual, but this time her team stepped up and got her the win. Kudos. The bears let Tory rush the net all night. Fredrick was alot softer on her goals. And Grogan by the way 3 on 19 shots, another soft performance for the highly touted tender.

oh by the way. 2 power play goals and the Bears took 8 penalties. Bad penalties to. Not real smart hockey. Spent nearly the whole second with someone in the box.

You cannot be serious about including Bonapace-Potvin or Murphy in the top goalies!?

While there may certainly be more than skill alone involved in awarding the Ms. Goalie recognition, there can be little doubt IMO that when considering the skills / talent of worthy candidates Ms. Grogan definitely qualifies.

On the international hockey stage:

Alyssa Grogan won the Directorate Award as the tournament's top goaltender

Bonapace may not be a candidate for Ms. Goalie 2008, but I wouldn't leave her out in 2010. She was AP All State HM last year as a freshman, and she keeps the scores of her games a lot closer and stops a lot of good scoring opportunities. She's battling mono this year so probably isn't at her best, but there's no doubt that she's Ms. Goalie material, and with more experience, she'll only get better. You can't say she shouldn't be included until you see her play. Once you see her play a game or two, you'll know she belongs on that list.

I have seen her play, and she is good for a sophomore.
But with so many good seniors to choose from, should not the award go to a senior?

I did say that she'd be a good candidate for 2010...NOT 2008
So yes I agree that it should go to senior

I know there are many good goalies in the state, but if this award doesn't go to Grogan it is a travesty.

Keep this in mind, this is a HIGH SCHOOL award NOT a USA Hockey award. Did you know she only saw about 60 shots total the whole U18 tournament? Many goalies listed here see that in 2 games on a regular basis. While Nixon did the USA stint, she still played major minutes for her team and saw plenty of action. This is also a Senior award that is based not only your Hockey stats but your efforts in your community, your grades, and many other factors. And I don't know this but if Gorgan is still able to do all those other things and still do USA and HS hockey, good for her. While you cannot take away her great history and her talent, this is a Senior Year award and I just don't think her senior year is going as well as many others, Kassa, Justice, Lenz, Herzog, Hunter, Pieper and many others that I have seen working their tails off. A .910 % on 190 shots doesn't qualify much when there are tenders out there with 500-700 shots with a better % and same if not better GAA. Whatever the result, it's definitely not decided here on this forum, (which may be unfortunate because the press does not put near enough time into seeing who's really doing well in person). Best of luck to all the goalies who have worked so hard to give their teams a chance to win. Grogan included, she is still good.

Forgive my naiveity, I know the Ms. Goalie - actually Senior Goaltender of the Year is awarded by Let's Play Hockey, but who actually decides the final nominees and who wins? I'm also assuming that it is an award only and no actual compensation in any form, other than prestige, goes with it?

"Stats are for losers" is the quote I've always heard. Stats can be very misleading, can they not.

I agree with Boblee by the way. Although Grogans partner Altman is every bit as good in my opinion. Two great goalies on one team, what a problem for the coach.

I know Grogs has struggled a bit this last week, but two games won't lose an award. She was chosen to play for team USA and she VERY GOOD against Canada. She is committed to the "U." I think she should win the award. BTW, I don't think this is a stat based award.

I could not find anything on the criteria or on who does the final selection(s). I do know the coaches are nominating now. If I remember correctly they announce 10 finalists - then narrow it to 5 for the banquet. The five finalists (along with the 5 Ms. Hockey finalists) are invited to the banquet and get free tickets (the family, coaches, friends ect pay to go) and then the winners are announced. They are then honored at the State Tournament.

I think the list is very interesting in the history of the award. There are a lot of big names but there are a lot of other names that fan's no matter how big may have never heard of. I think it's also interesting that fan's that follow DI and DIII hockey also would have a hard time following or finding a lot of the names on the list but based on the articles I found it is fairly obvious that the candidates are good students, involved in a lot of volunteer work both in the community and in the schools and over all probably many if not all went on to college (some playing some not - or perhaps other sports) and will become model citizens and some thing the hockey community as a whole can be very proud of.

The speculation is nice but unfortunately I would guess most of us are not privy to all of the things these kids do and what their grades are like. It is kind of a nice surprise when the final 5 comes out because we could all be surprised!

Anyway - the top 10 and the final 5 and whomever wins - congrats! It appears you will have earned it.

While stats may SOMETIMES be misleading, sometimes they are not. Go and watch kids like Kaasa, Lenz, and Hunter. The shots they face aren't usually a joke, and having to stop 40-50 night after night, with no games off to rest, for 4 months straight is quite a task for anyone. The kids get exhausted, yet they still keep their teams in the game and continue to make the stops regardless the situation. While numbers don't say everything, put yourself in one of those goalie's position, the goalies who face 40-50 shots a night, the kids who don't have all-stars in front of them. So, don't think that the stats ALWAYS lie.

I agree with everything you said. However, if you play for team USA and you don't win this award what does that show? I am not taking a stab at anyone. I am asking that as a serious question.

I'm not one to say Grogan does or doesn't deserve the award, because I haven't seen her play enough to entitle myself to that opinion. But I don't think the fact she was on team USA should be the sole factor for voters to base their decisions on.

only 5 are announced. I believe college coaches do the voting after the goalie are nominated by coaches. Most the votes come from D3 coaches i believe, but i may be incorrect.

In reality, that probably is a fairly big factor? Sole factor? Heck no. But Team USA combined with the "U." Tough combo to beat. (Plus, she isn't having too bad of a season )

Well, I guess we'll have to see when the paper releases the finalists! haha. I can't give you my opinion on Grogan because I don't have one, Boblee, but then again, not like it would matter because I'm not a voter. haha

Exactly. I don't have a vote either. If I did, I would vote Grogan.
