Woke up ... fell out of bed ... dragged a comb across my head ... found my way downstairs ... had a smoke <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> ... MrHfan spoke ... and I went into a dream ... found my coat ... grabbed my hat.... made Tommy Reid's in seconds flat. And then ... ladies and gentlemen ... the story began. So I blow through the doors at TR's just after stopping up at McGovern's, looking for metromick who said he would be playing cribbage upstairs. I was there to pay my debts (JW Black - straight up) but to no avail. Apparently metro didn't show ... which caused me to go ... to Tom Reid's to eat crow. Upon entering the door at Tommy Reids ... who else do I run into but two friendly competitors in the bar business up in Warroad; Frank (owner of Frank's Place) and Steve (owner of Main St. Bar & Grill). After the ceremonial greetings, skaking of hands and a few laughs, Frank and Steve present yours truly with a pair of Warroad Warriors hats with the names "Videoscout" and "Slapshooter" embroidered on the back of each one. I was at a loss for words, but eventually mustered up enough composure to express my flattery by accepting a drink offered by Frank "hiz-self". Frank and Steve wanted to buy the bar a round, but I assured them that Joe Lulic (who was standing over on the other side of the bar, looking at his watch and wondering where I was) would put the drinks on his tab and Henry Boucha would pick up all our food. I tell Frank, Steve, Gary and our good-looking lady (who's name escapes me at this moment) that I'll visit with them in a bit, but first I have to go meet Joe and ChrisK and Spanky Sullivan in the back room. Joe's got all of us rolling in tears before he has to exit the premises and ChrisK cuts his visit short as he was to meet a friend near will call to pick up his semi-final session ticket before his friend lost his patience and sold it to a scalper. I express my condolences to Spanky about his cousin, Bill Sullivan (old friend of Cal Marvin's and a hockey giant in NW MN - old school) who suddenly passed away last week, and moved on to the table with a few of my buddies that I will be going to Ottawa with in two weeks. Before I got a chance to speak with Frank and the boys, I found out that they were asked to give up their table for a celebrity that was to be showing up any minute. Frank and his entourage leave for the Xcel only to realize that their table was being reserved for their good friend, Henry Boucha and his entourage. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> I immediately hone in on the situation and have Henry sign a note to Slappy on the underside of the bill on Slappy's hat that Frank and the boys gave him. We talked for quite some time (Henry and myself) before the rest of his group showed up. Tommy Reid came over to the table to see everyone, and that's when I got a chance to meet formally introduce myself. It was a great time ... lot's of fun .... and Slappy missed it. After leaving TR's ... stopped at McGovern's for a quickie .... headed over to Liffey's (Holiday Inn Lounge) across from the Excel to get primed ... and headed over to the rink to see the semi-finals unfold. Friday night was a great time, as MrHfan, ChrisK, Joe and a few other Minnhock guys got to meet face-to-face. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> ... just another typical day at the state tournament.

Yeah Vide<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> Sc<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> ut, It wasn't easy knowing that our Warroad friends as well as Spanky, Henry, Joe, Chris, Tom, the others and especially y<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/pimp.gif ALT=":hat"> u were havin' all that fun without me and I can't tell you how pleased I am to be honored by our friends in Warroad with what will be my most prized possession and one that I am most proud to receive. But there was something going on that beckoned for my presence and what a blessing it was. I watched the games at Muggs with old friends and team mates as I awaited the arrival of a great friend and former team mate Father Patrick Sullivan with whom I spent a couple of fine hours exchanging laughs and comfort! His father, who was also our coach in high school, as well as a teacher and role model to us all, had passed away suddenly and left us with splended memories of our lives with him which lifted heavy hearts indeed. Coach, ( Bill Sullivan ) as I will forever refer to him as, was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many too numerous to count. You can't mention Bill Sullivan without talkin' hockey and included among the congregation at his funeral were many of the men who were instrumental in making the sport of High School Hockey and Hockey in general in the great State of Minnesota what it is today. A state tournament I can see anytime, but to be in the same room with these guys was beyond words for anyone who loves the game like most of us do. Several members of the ORIGINAL NCAA Fighting Sioux Hockey Team of which Bill Sullivan was a member, were in attendance and I was blessed enough to be able to share the same laughter and the same tears with some of the finest souls on earth and for that reason I beg forgiveness from my friends in Warroad as well as the Minnhock posters and all the others whos paths I could not cross at the state tourney this year. It's not everyday when you can stand at attention in reverence with an HONOR GUARD to the sound of 'TAPS' in appreciation of a World War Two 'PURPLE HEART' recipient who was also a 'Gods Send' to the GREATER Family of Minnesota and North Dakota Hockey. It was a 'Splendid' yet 'Tough' weekend all around! The Gophers are the better team. They will 3 peat. They now are focused and healthy. It had to be difficult for thr seniors especially after winning two championships to get real interested in playing the regular season. But they seem to be a team that can turn it on when they want too and right now, they want too. So, BELOW O will be wrong. The boys from ND are good but the Gophers are just that much better and will not be denied.

Great, now I've got a Bob Seger song running through my head, thanks Packerboy. Shouldn't the 2004/05 version of this thread be titled 'With the Grain'? Moorhead is the consensus favorite at this point to win Class AA and Warroad is expected to be Breck's strongest challenger for Class A so it isn't really going against the grain to know that the boys from Section 8 will take home all the hardware. Then again the song parodies might be harder to come by. Keep it rolling boys!

Well, whatayaknow. There are two teams from the same area that are ranked #1. Wait a minute,..whats this? They are both from section 8.Yup, it looks like the train is back on the track and fully restored from the terrorist attacks leveled by the Class AA supremists and other non believers. This changes everything. Speaking of change, I have heard from a number of sources that these two #1s from the that crazy section 8 both have some players who may be classified as 'open enrollers'. I wonder what the private school phobics have to say about that. Say, maybe da Spuds and Warriors should have to go have their own tournament and be forced to play with the formerly superior Catholics who better start recruiting if they want to keep up with those crazy 8 people. Dominus nobiscum. But hey, lets get back to the music.. SB24, Good Question. NO GOOD REASON that's for sure. If it hadn't been moved though, it would have probably fell off into oblivion along with it's excellent counterpart thread known as ' Section 8 DOMINATES A and AA...Fact of Modern Life....' which should have been saved to the "Best of Forum " along with this dynamite thread as they were the dominant threads of the 2003-2004 season and would no doubt carry over into the 2004-2005 season in about as 'timely' and 'informative' a 'hockey thread' as you can get, just as they were last season! Well SB24, I'd like to think that Mitch is giving this thread a chance to fill up over this 2004-2005 season. 502 posts is the limit ( last I heard ) on any given thread. Then, if it gets requested to be entered into the "Best Of " Forum, Mitch could decide to oblige such a request. I wish I would have asked him to save Section 8 Dominates A and AA...Fact of Modern Life...(which one could still locate earlier this summer last time I checked ) but I didn't and I don't know how or where to retrieve it. That thread was also a Ton of Fun! Another LOST CLASSIC! I thought that one was gone with the wind... Thanks for preserving that one as we had a ball putting that one together. Whay have two different chat boards? I dont understand it. All of the fine posters on this most outstanding forum are capable of navigating where they want to go. I wont even open a thread entitiled " who has the best uniforms". For those that do...great...enjoy. As slappy and I have always said " if you dont like our style, go over to the who will win section 2A thread and have a ball". We dont all have to be alike. Its Ok to be silly once in a while.
