Where is Hockeydude333?? Since he seems to be our resident goalie expert I would like to hear his evaluation of last nights goalie performance.
Looks like New Ulm got a tough draw. They play #1 Breck @ 6:00pm on Wed. Looks like they will than get either Warroad or Rochester.

Small point. They deserve it
this year because they won. They didn't deserve it in past years because they lost. Congratulations to a very supportive hockey community.

I thought both goalies played well last night... Johnson made some big saves as did burgau... Johnson did however leave a few too many rebounds that allowed NU to capitalize on 2 goals, im not sure maybe 3... 2 for sure... sick snipe by banal. nice move on a penalty shot by peterson....
Burgau made some nice saves but wasnt really tested a whole lot..22 shots but NU had far more scoring chances.. Litch gave up way too many odd man rushes..

AGREED... Congrats to the eagles!! Great for the town and program!! Good luck against Breck.. Breck is one of the best teams in the state AA or A!! The reality of how far 3A is from is state caliber team will come out but it is only good for the section!!

Goos_nu_eagles,
I realize the top 4 teams are all good but Breck was the worst draw of
all. That's all I meant.

Good luck New Ulm down at state. We'll be rooting for ya. It wasn't to be the other night for the Dragons! I agree with Bettman - we gave up too many odd man rushes. And to give up two shorties is not good! Changes momentum big time. What did you guys think of the penalty shot call? Legit or marginal?

I thought the penalty shot call was legit...... I mean it wasnt completely obvious but i thought the right call was made.

I agree with garry that the call was legit. Peterson beat the D and he tried to make up for it and tripped him up.

New Ulm is easily the weakest team going to the tournament, so their draw doesn't really matter.
p.s. congrats to New Ulm.

Twas totally legit. Nothing stood between Peterson and the goalie and the D man tripped him up.

Welcome to the real world 3A!! Like feeding lambs to the wolves!! Hey Breck why don't you get some balls and play with the big boys!! I hope Hermantown takes the A title. Private school recruiting pays off!!

MSHSL needs to take a look at things like this. This section didn't have a prayer no matter who came out of it. Not to rip on New Ulm or any team in this Section, they did not choose these Sections either, but no reason for any of the teams to make the State tournament. I understand everyone gets a chance and we look for the warm fuzzy underdog story, but this isn't fun to watch, and I'm sure neither team is enjoying this right now. Even Breck doesn't deserve this when preparing to win a title. I feel bad for everyone involved. MSHSL needs to look at this!

You might not think this is fun to watch, but I don't think you will find a more entertaining section tournament than 3A's.

Every Section tournament is exciting!! I understand that the State HS League wants a team to represent each region of the state but at the expense of 20 odd some kids getting embarrassed.. I am guessing 3A will look a little different in the future. If it doesn't than the state HS league to needs to pull their heads out of their arses!!

1A, 2AA, 6AA, 4A
many others..
except i will say 3A is competitive with eachother but with other teams in the state..

This is less about how people perceive how bad 3A is and more about how great of a team/s that Breck and other private schools are able to assemble with players from out of the community (I feel Alex would have experienced a similar fate had they faced Breck the first round). I believe I saw them broadcast that 5 of the past 8 Class A State Champions have been private schools? Last year Breck defeated Warroad 7-3, and this years Mustang team looks better. The MSHSL should focus less on realigning the sections and look more at if school enrollment is the correct way to split A & AA and if some Metro Privates should actually be in Class AA. Not Private school hating, just bringing things back to earth that 3A is not that bad, just not as good as the elite privates, and well, neither are MOST of the A teams!

Didn't have a prayer? That's what most people thought last year in the Hutch vs Mahtomedi game. It shouldn't have mattered that Marshall was hurt for the game, the way everyone talked down about Section 3A and Hutch before the tournament, you'd have thought the Zephyr's JV could have beaten them. The system isn't going to change anytime soon. Sections will be drawn geographically and each section sends a team to state.

Ya if Marshall would have played it would have been a plus 3 or 4 goal difference in the game last year. Hutch wasn't competitive last year at state!! They got killed in the consolation game as well. I don't see 3A being anymore competitive in a very long time if things are not changed!! Seriously 3A is going to be even thinner next year on talent. Hutch, Litch, and Marshall will all be terrible again. Good thing for New Ulm is that they should win the section again next year. Bad thing is they could very well draw a team like Breck again in the first round.
