A little out of left field (and pointless), but by any chance did Loberg ever live in Red Wing? Name sounds really familiar.

Yea he started in Red Wing and came to La Crescent as a Pee Wee.

Just got back from the Albert Lea-West game.

Great Game! 1A will be represented well at the Tourny this year!

Can't wait for the re-match.

SE MN, I see Lacresent won again last night. Talking to some West people last night, they said they were in your Tournament a couple years back. Said something about nicknameing your coach, "Coach Shrek" (must be the big guy). Things must be turning aroud there, they weren't to positive about the tournament and the team back then, but it seams like they are having a good year now and things might be changing.

Best of luck and we will be following you guys.

La Crescent has also been locked into a Wisconsin conference which limits their schedule some. They finally moved to to a Minnesota conference in all othe sports but the Hiawatha Valley League doesn't play hockey so their hockey team is still in the West Central Conference. Now that the MSHSL moved them out of the largely metro 3A and back into the 1A they should have an easier time playing 1A opponents. Like I pointed out earlier they don't play anyone in 1A all season but do play a couple of 1AA teams; Winona and Dodge Cty so at best all you can do is compare scores between common oppoents which is a flawed system.

La Crescent beat Winona 5-2 last night and plays Dodge Cty on the 8th, Faribault has a 5-4 win over Winona and a 3-2 win over Dodge Cty, Albert Lea has a 5-3 win over Winona, Mankato East has a 9-1 loss to Winona, and Mankato West has a 10-4 win over Winona. I'm not saying they're a top team in 1A but they're also not a patsy.
Winona game was 3-2 in third. Winona outplayed them badly most of third. Winona tipped one into own net and empty net made it look worse than the game. Plus one of LaC's D went down and walked out on crutches. Not sure how bad. They are thin on the blueline and if he is out it could hurt. La Crescent might be an 8 seed in 1A, but not higher than that.
La Crescent had one goal called off in the second due to a penalty away from play. Senior defenseman Scott Loberg was injured with a cut to the back of the leg mid way through the third. Winona did have some chances in the third, but goalie Manuel Dotterwiech made some nice saves.

It sounds like Loberg will be out 10-14 days.
Where did Manuel Dotterweich come from? Is he an exchange student? I see he is only a junior. Is he sticking around?

Thanks for the support Jim. Groth (The Big Guy) is a little over the top. Klingsporn has tempered that some.

We are having a great season compared to past La Crescent teams. Unfortunately the games we are playing are not getting us ready for sectionals. I think if Klingsporn would have had the team the last several years, we would be playing much tougher competition right now. Klingsporn has been trying to pick up some tougher games this year, but it has not materialized yet.

Manuel is from Germany. He will be gone next season. Tim Johnson is also a junior goalie that has been ineligible this year. He will be back soon and will be tough in the net for La Crescent next year.

If he is ineligable all year, what makes you think he will be able to play next year? Lot of time to get in trouble before them.

I'd take Lourdes over Breck.
Winona over JM is not an upset when is the last time you could say that.
Mayo/AL going to be a very good game.

1A is shaping up to be the toughest in the state-AL is playing very good hockey of late , West is playing well, so is Lourdes

i HEAR that lourdes beat breck something like 5-1 or 5-2... anybody know for sure?

Lourdes has to be the favorite to be the top seed now, though they still have games with West and New Prague left. Albert Lea, Red Wing, and West should round out the top 4. Northfield looks like they're playing well now, New Prague should follow at #6, then La Crescent and Faribault rounding out the top 8. I'm not sure any team in 1AA outside Owatonna would crack the top 4 or 5 in 1A.

Goldy - you could be right...however, AL had many guys not in their line-up when Owatonna beat them. The rematch of that game and AL/West could be something.

Lourdes is on a roll - a much different team than I saw in the Kiwanis tourney - they looked awful then.

All I know is the 1A team that makes it to state is going to be well tested and ready to go.

seeing as lourdes still playes west.. which could go either way, and west and AL still have another game to play, the #1 seed could go to either of the 3 teams seeing as after AL beat denfield in the kiwanis tournament, denfield went on to beat lourdes. So heres my scenario:

West beats Lourdes
AL beats west for a second time
Who gets the #1 seed?

Does it hurt AL's chances that they dont play Northfield, New Prague, or Red Wing?

Probably doesn't help them. Tough scenario above. Two things to look at though.
If Lourdes beats West, they get the #1 based on head to head, although they probably also have to beat NP.
If West beats Lourdes and AL, they probably get the #1 even though they haven't faced RW who has the argument that they have played a tougher schedule.
Probably most important is you want to be 1 or 2 because I think their are 6 teams that have seperated themselves from the rest.
In no particular order Lourdes AL West RW NP and Northfield so a 3 vs 6 or a 4 vs 5 matchup in the quarters will not be a cakewalk.

Scores - 1/10

Austin/Owatonna (5-1 Owatonna)
HolyAngels/Northfield (5-2 HA)

M-West/ LeSeuer (12-2 M-West)
JM/Winona (5-4 Winona)
Lourdes/Breck (5-4 Lourdes)
Mayo/A-Lea (6-5 A-Lea)

So what happened to Leiverman from west? I hear he got a misconduct and is out for two more games? When did all of this happen? West killed LeSuer/St.peter and I'm wondering why he was even playing? Did they play all of there horses until the end? Maybe thats why Litch and Leiverman have so many points.

leivermann got his DQ about a minute into the second period. The length of his suspension still isn't certain. It was a controversial call. maybe should've only been a 2 + 10. West was up only 2 after the first, it was in their offensive zone the whole game, they just couldn't put it in during the first period, so obviously Leivermann and Litch were playing in the beginning of the second being only up by 2. then west kicked it into gear and was up 9-1 after the second. West rolled three lines the whole game obviously as the scoring was evenly distributed with the second line getting a few more than the other two. Final shots were someting like 46-14 west

I think Essay needs to roll three lines all the time. I know he has been good about it but I noticed in the AL game when West fell behind I don't think he rested the top line enough and they were harrassed too hard to do anything. I noticed that when the 3rd line stepped on the ice against AL that AL wasn't ready for a line that was going to take it to them so hard. The speed and ability of West is very even. When the L,L,D line isnt able to capitalize, the second and third line get it done.

If west is as good of team that I and everyone thinks they are they should be able to roll three lines. In a game such as LeSuer they should have played the third with just the 3rd and 4th lines. But I'm sure coach Essay is doing whatever he thinks needs to be done to win the game. So when will they know how long he will be out? Does West have any big games coming up that he will miss?

West plays at Shakopee next Tuesday. I'm guessing they will really miss him in that one. Too bad it wasn't one of the 13 or 14 patsy's on their schedule next.
