Luverne with a Ho Hum 3-0 win vs its rival Marshall. Not a very exciting game. Boring. Credit Marshall for knowing what they had to do to keep it close. They never really had a chance to win the game. The talent gap between these two teams translates to double digits. Everyone knows rivalry games change things. Marshall came out and battled, collapsed in front of campion and pinched that cardinals.

Also, this will not be the last sweep Luverne has over Marshall.

Interested to see how Luverne handles Dodge county tomorrow. Should be a decent game. Throughout the youth years these games with these kids have always been close.

MrGoalieBoy wrote:3-0 Luverne. I don't know if Luverne played that well tonight. All I know is Marshall players were falling all over the ice, running into each other all the time, and not taking shots in the slot. I'd like to hear notTONIGHT's say on this game, did Luverne play very well tonight or not their best?
Does it really matter? Luverne could have JUST played all of their best players and won by 25 goals and Trout would have just attributed it to "Marshall really being down this year"....

It was cool to see Cary Eades, head coach of the SF Stampede, at the Luverne vs. Marshall game last night.

After seeing last nights game, I don't think Marshall is even a contender this year, they'll be on the road first round of playoffs and MAYBE upset a 3 or 4 seed. I say they aren't a contender because they don't have any kids who can score and I don't think campion can pull off what he did last year again. Marshall's team isn't as good as they have been in the past. Seeing a Marshall team that has kids that can't even skate? Yikes

Yes, I probably could.
But if you know, you could just type his name in.

If you don't know, fine, but you must have a guess.

So, I will be as polite as possible, which upper classman from Luverne were the scouts there to see?

I'll even smile, :D .

Smedsrud (sp?) would be the guy, but Nelson, Norman and a couple of others are putting up points also.

But points are not the only thing that gets the attention of the next level.

College guys seldom look at HS goalies instead wait for juniors so I ruled out the goaltender.

Size and good skating by a Dman will draw them.

This might help you.

The 8th grader nelson, and the sophomore Smedsrud and Sengvongxay are all making people look. They all continue to develop. I'm sure others are receiving interest as well.

I just looked at the Willmar high school activities schedule and it doesn't appear that they have rescheduled it yet.

Not many games played over the weekend due to New Year's and the poor weather.

Right now 3A is shaping up to be a good race. There are the top 4 teams and the Middle and then the Bottom.

The Top Four
Willmar, Hutch, Luverne & New Ulm Area

Anyone of these 4 can win this section. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I think its a toss up if these 4 make it to Gustavus wil come down to who is play their best hockey.

Middle of the Pack
LDC & Marshall

Each of these teams is good for an upset. If you get the #3 or #4 Seed I could see either of these teams being able to pull a big upset but not make a run at the section title.

The Bottom
The Rest

Programs are struggling right now. Goaltending or depth seem to be the big issues. Dont see any of them making noise come playoffs.

GAME OF THE WEEK
Willmar @ Luverne

Luverne seems to be cooling off looking at their results of the past weekend. Willmar is tough in these games. Shoudl be a fun one I think We could easily see Willmar hand Luverne their 1st loss of the season.

Very good post. I do believe that if Luverne plays up to their potential, they will win this game. But if they play like have these past few games (according to scores with Marshall/Dodge County) Willmar could Easily take it.. I agree with you scout.

Speedy recovery to members of the Section 3 hockey family.

Teacher and two sons recovering after crash

By Jenny Berg reporter@independentreview.net

Litchfield teacher and coach Chris Olson and his two sons are recuperating at a hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn., after the three were injured in a car crash Friday night while driving back to Litchfield from a University of Minnesota hockey game.

Olson, an English teacher at Litchfield Middle School and Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato boys hockey coach, was discharged from North Memorial Hospital but is using a wheelchair to move between his sons’ hospital rooms, according to the family’s CaringBridge page. Olson’s legs and ankles are bruised and sprained and he is in a lot of pain, but he sustained no broken bones or fractures in the crash, according to the CaringBridge post.

Both of Olson’s sons, Ty and Braden, are in the intensive care unit at North Memorial. As of Sunday morning, Ty was under heavy sedation due to swelling on his brain stem.

“The current plan is to wean (Ty) off of the ventilator slowly on Monday and if all goes well, take out the tube and have him wake up on his own,” a post written Sunday morning stated. Ty has no broken bones other than a previous broken leg, and a lot of bruising.

“Ty is so precious. In talking to him today I am sure he knew it was Cindy and I. He is certainly one tough cookie,” Chris posted on the CaringBridge page Sunday night.

Braden, a third-grader, broke his leg in two places. According to his doctor, the breaks are clean and the bones have stayed in place so no surgery is needed. Braden will have a cast put on his leg in a few days once the swelling goes down.

Braden also suffered a broken nose and has bone fragments around his upper left eye, which will require surgery to remove once the swelling goes down. On Saturday, Braden underwent surgery to repair tears on the outer lining of his small intestine that were causing some internal bleeding.

According to the CaringBridge page, Braden was alert Sunday and insisted on calling his third-grade teacher to let her know he would not be in school Tuesday.

“Braden is such a strong individual,” Chris wrote Sunday, adding Braden kept him focused through the accident.

“We are getting better. Physically we are moving forward,” Chris wrote in his post Sunday night. “I am so proud of my kids.”

Chris then thanked the community for their words of encouragement and prayers.

“It is really humbling and has brightened our spirits,” Chris wrote, adding, “We live in a community that is truly family first, and we are so blessed.”

Adult visitors are limited and children are not allowed to visit the hospital because of the risk of spreading influenza, according to the CaringBridge page.
