The Lightning dominated the game from the get-go and outshot Cretin 11-3 in the first period. Dana Gallop got the scoring started with under a minute to go on the first on a rebound goal. The Lightning would get outshot 13-12 in the middle frame, but lead 4-1 after one. Molly Illikainen scored the prettiest goal of the game after she took a pass from Markie DeGrio from behind the net on the power play and went top shelf to make it 2-0. Emily Erickson netted her first since committing to BSU to make it 3-0 Lightning. Katie Macini scored for Cretin to make it 3-1, but Molly Arola answered with her 16th goal of the year to make it 4-1 at the end of two periods. The Lightning again dominated the third period and outscored Cretin 3-1 in the final rock. Dana Gallop and Emily Erickson both scored their second goals of the game and both were unassisted early in the third. Erickson's goal was shorthanded. Michelle Fischer scored a goofy goal to cut the lead to four. Molly Arola finished the scoring by putting away her second of the game on the power play at 14:36 of the third.Kelly Wild did not play for Cretin, but Kelsey Scott and Amelia Knudson did. Both goaltenders played pretty well as GRG had many great opportunities. Bessie Havel was outstanding in goal for GRG. Cretin will face BSM tomorrow at 12:30 in the consolation semi-final and GRG will take on Hill-Murray at 3:00 p.m. semi-final #1.

BSU will be perfect for Erickson, they're a team lead by underclassmen who has nowhere to go but up. Close to home so Ginny can still see Emily play, perfect. Congrats.

Thanks for the updates boblee, don't know what this board would be without you. If GRG can hang on to the lead, their impressive streak will continue. Those Erickson from Gallop short handed goals sure have been a frequent occurrence this year...

In their barn? I'm feelin' you on Bemidji MNHF but it could be closer if they look past them. I'll go 5-4 Lightning at home vs the Hornets though.

One game at a time...

I like the Lightning 6-3 in Bemidji. A lot of wild cards here. Will S. Erickson be there? I believe so. Will the Lightning be healthy? I know at least one girl was ill today. I still like 6-3.

Lightning dominated on a very weird night. Zamboni broke down and only resurfaced half the ice after the first. Teams went to the locker rooms after the second period, but the ice was not redone. There were only two refs and they really struggled all night. Good thing boblee was there to correct scoring errors on 8 of the 10 goals in the game. Here is the scoring summary:

1. GRG, Morgan Illikainen (Molly Illikainen, Molly Arola) 8:14 1st
2. GRG, Molly Illikainen (Marina Guyer, JoHanna Kohorst) 16:45 1st
3. GRG, Emily Erickson (Molly Arola, Dana Gallop) 2:55 2nd
4. Bem, Alissa Johnson (Jessica Christofferson) 5:37 2nd
5. GRG, Molly Illikainen (Molly Arola) 5:54 2nd
6. Bem, Haley Johnson 9:53 2nd
7. GRG, Emily Erickson (Dana Gallop) 11:49 2nd
8. GRG, Molly Illikainen (Molly Arola, Heather Horgen) 13:32 2nd
9. GRG, Dana Gallop (Kayla Clafton, Emily Erickson) 6:27 3rd
10. Bem, Haley Johnson (Karly Engen) 10:44 3rd

Saves:
GRG, Jessica Havel 23
Bem, Kaia Sele 24

I hope all these got to the coaches website correctly.

Congrats to Molly Illikainen. She was the best player on the ice at JGF. She was marvelous and it was nice to see her get her first career hat trick.

Nice article. She will be a good addition to the BSU team. She, and Crookston's Marlee Wheelhouse, should help give the Beavers some much needed scoring punch.

Good for GRG, they have been playing good team hockey. I personally think the LPH should be Stillwater, Roseville, GRG, EP. Who knows, if GRG keeps playing the way they have been we may see another change, believe they have Roseville and EP in their future.

Wow, that is one helleva finish, but a great way to get ready for sections. You know Edina is going to be very tough, but any of the other teams are probably capable of pulling off an upset.
