Assuming Faribault and Century win their last conference games, who will the conference champ be? Faribault all alone (tie breaker) or will they be co-champs?

I believe they would be crowned co-champs because last year Albert Lea and Century shared the trophy.

Does Mayo have any chance of being the spoiler and upsetting Faribault? I say no but I am wondering what other Rochester people think.

Yes, but the game is at Faribault, which gives an edge to the Falcons.
I'll say Faribault will be big-9 co-champs and take 1A in a barnburner against Lourdes.

The big question now is, can West take down arguably the best team in the section in Rochester Lourdes tomorrow night?

i wouldnt call a lourdes/faribault game a barnburner. i'd say lourdes is the better team by a decent margin. after watching them play a few weeks ago i'd say lourdes takes that game easily

I think if Van Galder plays to what he is capable of then I would say Mayo could give Faribault a run for their money.

See last year's section 1A quarterfinal game: Lourdes 3-2 in OT over Faribault...same Lourdes team that won the State consolation.

It's high school hockey, in minnesota, and it's playoffs. ANYTHING can happen.

What happened to Albert Lea? Losing big to West and then dropping one at home to Mayo? Or is it that their opponents have improved that much? Was that Grosso's 599th win?

No he already had 600 when the season started. He got his 600th against Albert Lea last year I think.

Mayo vs. Faribault is going to be a good game. Mayo is playing at the top of there game right now and it is obviousley coming at a good time of the year. If Faribault takes them lightly at all Mayo will win. It will be a good game regardless. I will go out and say Mayo 4-3 .

I can not see Faribault dropping this one. If it were in Rochester, then maybe, but I will say Faribault will win by a comfortable margin.

Mayo didnt even have a chance from the drop of the puck in this one....8-0 van guilder played a "ok" game id say he didnt really have help from his defense at all....Mayo also spent most of the game down a man and sometimes down 2 men.....didnt really have a lot of puck possetion...it was all farbo in this one.....I cant see this team doing anything in the section tourny if its the team that showed up and got blew out of farbo....

I don't put a lot of stock in this game for a couple of reasons....1) Faribault was playing for it's first Big Nine title ever 2) This was Mayo's fourth game in six days and for a team that's really not very deep you could smell trouble given Faribaults high end talent.

Ever since losing to Lourdes in a game where Faribault looked completely disintersted the Falcons are 6-0 and averaging nearly 7 goals a game.

Century being tied 0-0 after 1 with East and only winning 6-0 suprised me a bit. West giving up 7 to Owatonna also suprised me as they had only given up more than 3 once since Jan 1st and that was to Century. The Owatonna game was West's 4th in 6 days as well so fatigue may have something to do with the 7 goals.

That's a very interesting stat on West right there..

And I believe looking at their schedule, it was their 5th game in 7 days?

Did Albert Lea let the big 9 slip away? Did they have it and then lose it when they choked to Mankato West and Mayo.

I think Albert Lea has been Co-Champs twice before. This was a big chance for them this year to take the title on there own and they blew it.
