Are You serious! rochester doesnt need a 4th public high school when you have declining enrollment at JM

Century goes to Faribault tomorrow, big game for both teams. Thoughts on the game?

That is foolish. You wonder sometimes what the financial incentives would be to add a new school. Someone, or some group, must benefit or it would never even come up.

Hockey in Rochester needs to attract a greater percentage of the better athletes at a young age so they develop a love of the sport and continue to play it.

I missed the game last night, but heard the Mayo goalie VanGalder was outstanding. Shots were 30-22 in favor of West.

Is there any chance Mayo could play JM in the first round?

No chance - JM win not end up eighth. If JM was to gets to a four seed no chance mayo gets a five seed. Mayo best finish possible, if they beat owatonna is to finish 7th. Otherwise knockout game will be Mayo vs Dodge County.

It is too early to predict seeds as anything can still happen.
One thing that hurts Mayo is that the conference games are different than in past seasons. However, games like Owatonna over Winona make seeding difficult. You never know how the coaches will seed teams.
Everyone will be overlooking Mayo down the stretch, and they might surprise people. The Spartans are finally healthy and are getting more consistent goaltending. What happens if Mayo runs the table? It might not be likely, but it could happen.
What matters the most is to be playing your best hockey in Feb. Teams like Lakeville North always do. The wins might not be there, but beware of those Panthers.
Where do you put Farmington? Very few wins this year and even fewere in the 2nd half of the season. Mayo could have and probably should have won that game. Some quality wins down the stretch by anyone - like Owatonna or Mayo could make seeding very interesting.

no one predicted 'great' things from them this year, only that they had the potential to be competitive with the top teams in the Big-9 and 1A.
They returned almost all there top scorers from last year. Plus they picked up a new transfer and got back 1 player from injury. Their entire starting lineup except the goalies are seniors. For whatever reason they have not gelled this year and seem to be struggling down the stretch. Their season might have turned on that first East/West game where East jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, but couldn't hold and lost 4-3.
They seemed to go backwards from there.

What happens with the Fighting Major and game DQ to Taylor Ries? Is he done for the season or what? Tough blow to loose your top point getter to a 1 point defenseman for Austin

Ries with a major for fighting? I don't care what the score is or who you're playing, what an absolutely horrific sign of leadership from a guy who should be someone your team looks up to. That's inexcusable from a coaching standpoint in my point of view. Terrible play kid.

funny the east austin girls played before the west game, the austin girls came back and won it 6-5 also
seems like the 3rd period got to east, looking at the play by play at hockeyhub, tons of penalties
should not have lost to this austin team, rule with ejection is out for one game i believe right? still bad for ries to lose his cool during a regular season game against austin..
east's two toughest games are at the end of the season, look for billiar from east to step up while ries is gone for however long

You clearly were not at the game. Anyone watching saw that Ries was caught up in the clearing of the Austin bench at the buzzer. 3 or 4 East kids were at or near the Austin bench and some pushing and shoving took place in the middle of the celebration.
If any game DQ's were justified it clearly wasn't Ries. He was knocked to the ice in the mess and instead of getting up and fighting, he backed out of the fracus and skated clear of it all. The officials came to the locker room about 10 minutes after the game and told the coaches he was DQ'd for starting the fight and continuing it. Clearly he has exremely long arms, it all took place in front of the Austin bench, and he was standing by the East bench for most of it. Their was even an East & Austin kid going at it after most of it was broke up and the teams were lining up to shake hands. If anyone deserved to be DQ'd it was probably those 2.
The officials had a little trouble getting numbers straight all night. They called 2 penalties on East with about 4 minutes left on 2 guys that were on the bench at the time. That was the 3rd or 4th time they had the wrong numbers during the game. It appeared to be a case of keeping it even, they DQ'd an Austin kid for breaking his stick against the boards ( a debatable DQ) and picked a black jersey to keep it even. The whole thing was more of an over reaction by officials than a brawl.
The sad thing is that players pay the price for an official making a questionable call, and have no appeal process. Players only have so many games to play in their high school careers, and officials can take games away without being held accountable. I'm all for penalzing kids if warranted, but in this case if any DQ's were, they got the wrong guy. Now he pays the price. 1 less game to play for a senior that only has a few left anyway. Congratulations Ref, well done.
