Anoka squanders a great performance in goal by Spencer Olson and 4 goals from it's first line (including a hattie by Blake Neumann) due to poor defensive zone coverage and poor positional play on the Olympic ice sheet. ER defencemen do a great job handling the puck, holding the point, rotating the puck D to D while the ER forwards are led by #15 (Ben Johnson?) an explosive skater with good size.

Anoka lacks depth and it showed in playing both Burnsville (up in Grand Rapids) and ER tough, but coming up short in both games.

Merry Christmas!!

The scores from Wednesday December 23 showing Burnsville beating Shakopee and Eden Prairie beating Jefferson sets up the following scenario starting in January.

That Shakopee win gives the Blaze a perfect 30 points in their first ten 10 games. The Blaze will set the mark for the other teams to beat in D6. Suppose the Blaze go 5-3 and take all “unfairplay” points in their remaining eight games, they will end the D6 season with 48 points.

Eden Prairie by beating Jefferson tonight has 27 points in 11 games. If the Eagles sweep their last 7 games perfectly they will add 21 points to bring their total to 48 for the season. That means the Eagles would have to beat the Blaze in the one remaining D6 game the two teams play.

Minnetonka has 22 points in 9 games. If the Skippers sweep their last 9 games they will end up at 49 points. Edina has 21 points in 9 games. A sweep for the Hornets would give them 48 points. Prior Lake has 18 points in 9 games. A sweep by the Lakers would give them 45 points.

Burnsville has games left with Minnetonka (2 games), Prior Lake (2 games), Chaska, Kennedy, and Edina besides playing Eden Prairie. Edina and Eden Prairie have two games with each other. The Hornets play Tonka once more. Tonka and Prior Lake will play two games with each other.

The Blaze have the D6 championship in their grasp, can they deliver?

OK Fred.. As I see it with your post on the Star of the North and now this one you have little respect for the Blaze. They have beaten the hornets,EP, Rosemount (twice), Roseville,Grand Rapid many number one regional seeds according to you,,and Snuck one out against Shakopee according to your first post and then thumped them 14-0 the last time they played. You didn't even mention that they beat Woodbury with a winger in net and, Oh you forgot that you picked them to lose against the daunted Anoka Tornados in the Star of the north tourney.... I am thinking that you either haven't seen them play much or are a little jaded about the team. Everyone says that you call it how you see it and now you are questoning a 21-0 team? I am losing faith in your picks... Next thing I see you saying is the Heights team is going to take it all... I am pretty humble but cmon 30 points in thirty trys has to have a little more respect don't you think? If you keep this up I might have to comment about your hat....

Way to go, B-ville hockey guy. Many of us have been rooting for the Blaze boys, but it is apparent that your adult sized mega ego got the best of you. Did it ever occur to you that Fred makes his picks because he is trying to keep things interesting. Novel concept, I know. But, if Fred picked your beloved Blaze all the time, his posts and blog would be boring.

From the unbiased eye of someone who has watched the Blaze play in several games, the Blaze are good, but they are not unbeatable. Centennial played the Blaze tough. Rosemount, Farmington, Edina, Wayzata, or some other outlier might actually beat the Blaze when it matters--at regions or state. Ergo, you would be best advised to stop puffing and sit in the stands and appreciate that the Blaze boys know what is important--the score after the buzzer sounds. The rankings and Fred's opinion means nothing. I was once the captain of a high school team that was ranked number one in the state and guess what? The team didn't make it to state. I would rather have been dissed by the experts who prepared the rankings than be rated number one all season and not win state. Sit back, enjoy the ride and realize it's not about you--it's about the boys. They will be just fine with or without Fred's endorsement.

#1. I have watched the Burnsville peewee A program over the past 25 years. The Blaze teams tend to in better shape at the start of the season and wear down as the season progresses.

#2. This year, I saw the Blaze play in Oct (St. Louis Park, Rosemount), in Nov (Edina, Apple Valley, Roseville, Rosemount) and in Dec (Shakopee, Waconia). December is not over.

#3. In the past 25 years, the Blaze have always had trouble in the District 6 playoffs. The past two years they have made to the peewee A regionals as the #1 D6 seed only to lose to Edina after beating them in the D6 playoffs.

#4. I am probably one of the few people who smile at the Blaze home games when the “indian drum song” is played as the kids line up for the first face-off. They were called the Braves before PC set in.

Fred, Great points. Why do you think they falter towards the end of the year. I have seen this in the past. To much hockey? Coaching? What do you think it is?

I don't have the adult size ego that you talk about I am just commenting on his picks.. why does he make his picks if you can't have some bantor about what he is stating. I understand the Rankings and wasn't puffingas you stated above. I know that it is a long season and this team is not a world beater but if you look at his blog he IMO glazes over the entire D6 standings. Losing in the D6 Playoff finals last two years to Edina is nothing to sneeze about and I would have a hard time calling that Fading at the end of the season. I think part of the fun about this board is you can have your opinions and people can rip you if they want.

By the way I feel bad that your #1 highschool team faded.. mine did too.. Lost in the region finals...

Fred, Great points. Why do you think they falter towards the end of the year. I have seen this in the past. To much hockey? Coaching? What do you think it is?

One theory I have always had with respect to Burnsville is that they do not play in the "Tier 1" tournaments around the state, but instead settle for tournaments that involve good teams, but not the top-end teams. For example, you never see Bville in the Roseau, Edina, EP, and WBL tourneys. In addition, they do not play in the Maroon/Gold league at Bantam level. I think the teams that typically play in those tourneys/leagues are better prepared for the consistent high level of competition that is seen during district/region playoffs. Now one flaw in my argument is that one could say District 6 league play itself is so competitive that that alone should prepare any team for the post season. However, I think the strong tournament play that the Edinas, Wayzatas, EPs and others play during the season also better prepares teams for the post season.

That being said, there is no doubt that Bville is doing a great job developing hockey players as they are and have been excelling at all levels.
