Owatonna lost to J.M. 4 to 3. A very close game with Owatonna out playing and out shooting J.M.. Not too many penalties, J.M. had only 1 to Owatonna's 5. The refs just gave the Rochester boys a talking to when they should of been sent to the box. Owatonna will look forward to another game with J.M. no doubt about it.

Another reason why it will be sad when JM ends up with the 2 seed.
Owatonna playing well (beating south etc..) has really screwed things up!!
But I guess that's what makes hockey great...any team, any given night, anything can happen.
Way to finish up reg. season Owatonna!

From the locked thread and MSHSL:
1-Century
2-JM
3-Lakeville N
4-Mayo
5-Lakeville S
6-Farmington
7-Owatonna
8-Dodge Cty
9-Winona
10-Worthington

The Century vs. DC/Winona will be at 6, JM will play the Owatonna/Worthington winner at 8. Mayo and Lourdes will also have a double header at Graham Arena. In past years Mayo has chosen the 8 game, but neither game will be at the time listed on the MSHSL website.

Well at least with these seedings, Owatonna will win a playoff game....how many have they won since Fish took over?
Even when they had a great team they disappointed.

This year is different, they are playing well now and might upset JM in the 2nd round. Probably the closest 2 vs. 7 match-up in recent memory.

The Mayo/LS game is interesting....the Spartans got some help to get a home game, but if they get Sackett back for this game and Donohue plays well (37 saves against West, 45 against AL), they could make noise.
Too bad they blew a few games eariler in the year (LS, LN, both JM, 1st AL game), they could have been the 2nd or 3rd seed.

Could Farmington pull off the upset at LN? Probably not, but they have been playing much better lately as well.

It seems when I look at scores the both Lakeville teams are not playing their best now. It will be interesting to see if the scores are an indication or not. I admit I have not seen them play lately.

My guess is we will get another LN vs. Century final this year. How many OTs this year?

They get no higher than the 7th seed though
Hey Noter.....Ummm... I mean SEMinnHockeyNut,

You desreve more respect as a great hockey mind. I wish more kids would listen to your advice instead of thinking you are just a crazy hockey nut at the games looking through the endboards glass at us...On anoter note, you called Austin a bottom feeder...that's quite jenerus, but I herd you were from the land of SPAM. Say hi to John Madden for us, tell him we love this year's game!

sorry siouxfan, thought he were you and you were he. A case of the old switcheroo I gess. Anyhow, since this is a 1AA seed thread, who's your pick for the games this week now that we know the brackets?

Section 1

I like owatonna and dodge co to win on Tuesday.

I like JM in a close game on thursday over Owatonna Wiesner deserves to bring his Rockets to the semi- finals He is easily thie best forward in the Section. Owatonna can win if they find a way to solve Ben Pirius

I like Century over Dodge County

I like Lakeville South over Mayo ( battle of my two goaltenders from this fall) close game If Sackett is able to play I switch my pick to Mayo)

I like Lakeville North over Farmington in a close game.

On Saturday I like Century over Lakeville South
Lakeville North over JM

I like Century over Lakeville North.

I like Century over Moorhead in a huge upset at state.

Hibbing Bluejackets: 3
Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons: 2

Final OT

Goldy....so would Mayo's 4-2 win over Armstrong be a 'quality win' now?

Sioux Fan

You have your brackets messed up. The Mayo/L-South winner gets Century on Saturday.

dumdumdummerdummest....nice picks redneck. So are you one of the Triton football guys that Goldy is in love with or what?

Owatonna over Worthington
DC over Winona on Tues

Thurs: Century over DC; Mayo over South; LN over Farmington, but a close game and JM in OT over Owatonna.

Sat: Century over Mayo 4-2 w/ an EN goal; JM shocks North to make it an all Rochester final. Century wins 5-1 and heads to state.

Century will be in the blind draw...if they draw team with suspect goaltending they will have a chance. If it is someone like Duluth East's Leis, they will be in trouble because whoever they play will likely score at least 4 goals against Ewing or Borgmann.

Excuse me Mr. SEMinnHockeyNut Guy. Triton football rocks, but this is a hockey forum, not football. I am not one of those guys Goldy is in love with, that's gross. I am however in favor of keeping to the thread topic, so here's my picks:

DC & Owatonna Win their playin games.

Mayo over South
North over Farmington
JM over Owatonna
Century over DC(in OT)

JM over North
Mayo over Century(in OT)

Mayo over JM

Here's my rationale: Owatonna, Farmington, and South are all not very good, except South's goaltender makes them dangerous. JM has been playing very well down the stretch, and that's where you want to be come sections. Century is burned out, will be tired from OT with DC, and goaltending is suspect. Mayo's goalie is playing very well despite a couple of late losses to JM and AL, I think they were missing Sackett for those two losses also and I heard he might be back for sections.

I could be wrong though, DC could win that game in overtime. If that happens, then DC will win it all.....straight to state!

okay first of all Sioux Fan Wiesner is no where near the best player in section 1aa. He might be if he was 1a. Knoepke, Grimstad, Briscoe, Thauwald, Hoksch are all better then him but you think he is good becuase he played on your elite *2* team. Second there in no way DC would ever stay close to Rochester Century let alone take them into OT so whoever thinks that you are definatly dreaming so wake up. Century is the clear favorite in this section and they are going to show why they deserve to go to state because they are the only ones who are somehat capable of winning their first game up there. Third Mayo will not get by South they have no offense and horrible defense. Souths goalie is better then mayo's.

Century over DC 8-1
South over Mayo 4-2
Owatonna over JM 3-2 (wiesner is not good so open your eyes)
North over Farmington 4-1

Sat
Century over South 6-2
North over Owatonna 4-3

Finals
Century over North 5-2

Century Section 1AA champs .

For all you that are picking south...you will virtually find out that you're wrong. Mayo will beat South, so why are you guys saying that south will beat Mayo. Honestly, mayo is way more talented than south and have the better goalie. The only reason that mayo couldn't beat south earlier in the year was because matt alexander wasn't playing and the defense was horrible, but now they have played better as of late. By the way, I saw sackett at a basketball game two days ago and he is no longer on crutches and I am positive that he will play thursday.

Bad defense in the game? It was a 2-1 South victory with Yumusaklar turning away 30+ shots in the win.

Mayo has more offense
South has the better goaltending

It will be a 1 goal game either way.

All quite funny - all the bickering, etc.

My predictions:

DC 5 Winona 2
Owatonna 8 Worthington 0

Quarterfinals:

Century 6 DC 3
Mayo 4 L-South 1
L North 3 Farminton 2
JM 4 Owatonna 2

Semifinals:

Century 4 Mayo 3 OT
JM 2 L North 1 OT

Finals:

Century 5 JM 1

Rationale: JM has it coming together down the stretch and Pirius could steal a game, even though North is a better team. Lecy will have the Rockets ready, but they lack scoring depth so have to win tight games.
Mayo has also played well and Donohue can stop anything when he is on fire. He has played really well lately - holding Faribault to 1 goal, West 2 goals, JM 2 goals, AL 2 goals. Some of these games he has made 35-45 saves! Mayo's studs are also playing well and they should get Sackett back. Mayo deserved the #4 seed over South because they are the better team. Any goalie that gives up 6 goals to Owatonna and 5 to Eastview (on 28 shots), is over-rated!
Farmington rolls in hot as of late..and they could steal a game, same with Owatonna.

I picked two OT games for the semi-finals because I love desperation hockey and I also have watched Mayo give Century all they could handle.
JM has a veteran team which will help some, but not enough to get over the hump and beat Century.

Century over DC (shouldnt be close)
South over Mayo (low scoring, hakan wins it for south)
Owatonna over JM
North over Farmington

Century over South
North over Owatonna

North over Century OT(s) (LN wins again for 5th time in 6 years and once again leaves Century stunned. kvasnicka gets game winning again too)

North keeps it close for a period and then gets crushed by AHA or Moorhead

So are you saying that Century has a better chance than others of winning at state in the first round? You are silly in the head. Please refresh me of Century's record in non-conference play this year against stiff Twin Cities and Northern Minnesota competition. I'll tell you:
Tartan L, 5-3
Roseville L, 3-0
Fargo South W, 3-2
Duluth East L, 4-1
Edina L, 5-1
Rosemount W, 3-1
Duluth Marshall L, 2-1

That looks like 2-5 to me. 29% winning percentage.

Lets look at JM:

Robb. Armonstrong L, 4-2
Champlin Park L, 5-3
Coon Rapids W, 5-4
Red Wing L, 4-3
Fargo South L, 9-2
Buffalo L, 4-3
Virginia L, 11-3
Hibbing L, 9-3

That's 1-7 folks! doesn't include the loss to Farmington either.
13% winning percentage.

Here's Lakeville North:
Rosemount 1 - 4 L
Eagan 3 - 3 T
Bloomington Jefferson 2 - 8 L
Eastview 6 - 8 L
Burnsville 2 - 3 L
Bloomington Kennedy 2 - 1 W
Apple Valley 4 - 8 L
Hibbing/Chisholm 1 - 7 L
Greenway Raiders 5 - 1 W
Grand Rapids 0 - 7 L
Chaska 2 - 9 L
Eden Prairie 5 - 4 W
Rosemount 2 - 7 L
Eagan 4 - 2 W
Bloomington Jefferson 1 - 4 L
Eastview 1 - 2 L
Burnsville 1 - 4 L
Bloomington Kennedy 4 - 4 T
Apple Valley 1 - 0 W
Eden Prairie 1 - 4 L

That's 5-13-2 ladies. 27% winning percentage.

Lets look at Mayo:

Roseville L, 4-2
Robb. Armstrong W, 4-2
Hastings W, 2-1
Stillwater W, 2-1
Hibbing L, 4-2
Virginia L, 5-1
Duluth East L, 7-2

That's 3-4. And, it does not include a 7-0 drubbing of Farmington.
43% winning percentage.

When it comes down to it, looking at statistics, Mayo might have the best chance to win its first game at state.

But let's all be honest, the old axiom will come true in this tournament:

"Hard work will beat skill when skill doesn't work hard." --Roy Nystrom

Sorry about the long post but it was necessary to make statistical points.

I appreciate your time and patience in reading through my dissertation on the section 1AA tournament situation. If you are still reading this, you are a complete bore and should be doing something better with your life than what I am doing here typing this hooey. Time for another red bull and vivarin, must stay awake until the last buzzer of the State tourney.
I love lamp.

dumb, your arguement would hold more water if the quality of the competetion was the same between them. Century's non-conference schedule was MUCH tougher than any other Rochester team this year.

Actually, if you go to the Hawker ratings, you will see the ratings on strength of schedule. Century-11.3 JM-10.3 Lakeville North-11.7 and Mayo 11.0.
Century definately has a tougher schedule than JM, but not Mayo(only 0.3 diff.), and definately not tougher than Lakeville North.
