To get into the top 64 group, you need to have an enrollment of at least 821 in order to get above the 1067 enrollment number of Winona. Now looking at the list, that would include schools between Alexandria (1062) and Monticello (821). The only two private schools in that list is Cretin-Derham Hall with an enrollment of 985 and Totino-Grace at 859. With the 1.3 factor, their new enrollment figures would be 1280.5 and 1116.7 respectively. That would effectively bounce Winona and Richfield out of the top 64 into class A.<br><br>Other 2003-2004 private school enrollments:<br><br>Saint Thomas Academy - 778 (plays A)<br>Benilde-St. Margaret's School - 645 (plays A)<br>Hill-Murray School - 631 (plays AA)<br>Academy of Holy Angels - 630 (plays AA)<br>Saint Cloud Cathedral High School - 438 (plays A)<br>Rochester Lourdes High School - 418 (plays A)<br>Minnehaha Academy - 389 (plays A)<br>Blake School (The) - 363 (plays A)<br>Breck School - 301 (plays A)<br>Holy Family Catholic High School - 300 (plays A)<br>Saint Paul Academy and Summit School - 293 (plays A)<br><br>The net result of the 1.3 idea doesn't seem to impact too many schools. CDH already plays AA. Winona and Richfield would move to A. One private school, TG, would move to AA. Not sure if the proposal you indicate the MSHSL is looking at levels the playing field for hockey.<br><br><!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Please excuse any mess ups, I was going pretty quickly...please note I opted to not try and reconcile the fact that the 64th team is Winona, yet reclassification enrollment number cut off is 1090, which effectively makes the cut at 61 schools instead of 64 (Duluth East, Richfield and Winona). I am the first in any argumetn to complain about the private schools and recruiting and I'll ve the first one to complain of Warroad and recruiting, it is WRONG. However, there is no other way that Breck, Blake,Benilde etc, would even field all the teams they do without it. I DONOT agree with moving them to AA, why????? dumb. you have to keep the integrity, otherwise we go right , otherwise we go back to tier one, tier two, and it all goes to heck. True thta thre a tourneyh last year was teh worst ever, but that is a problem of the MSHSL and the retarded and completely ignorant way the aligned the sections. When the a tourny is good, it is good, look at teh 2003 tourny, the 2002 tourney....Warroad vsRed WIng, ......Public no bobody beating up on TC private school on their own turf....(FFvTG) all great stuff... leave it alone at the state level, move the sections so that they are balanced geographically and it will all go back to normal............. <p></p><i></i>

One thing that comes up is that when a kid goes to a private school, it hurts the public school. Someone above mentioned that it hurt the school financially. Now, I'll admit that they lose the headcount when it comes to getting state money, but the parent of that child still pays the taxes that helps fund the public schools. So there you see, the parents are paying for both their kid, and your kid... hmmmm..<br><br>And I still say that the public school recruitment is just as strong as any school, at least most of them. Anybody from a school that has a player on the team, that wasn't attending that school as a freshman, has no right to complain about any school....
