What??? You mean the 218 hates the Metro, and they hate the good teams in the 218 too???
Who the bleep would they be happy to see win? No pleasing some folks, I guess.
We love Hill,
But we hate Moorhead.
Love Roseau.
Cheer for Rapids.
Don’t particularly care for Duluth East.
I'm going to start selling "651 HOCKEY" tee shirts.

My bad. Moorhead with the 5 seed. That might make another Andover/Mhead qtr.elliott70 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 3:21 pmI think Moorhead will get the 5 seed.Hockeyfan911 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 3:09 pmI think you nailed it. MG and Edina could flip. Also see LS and CDH flipping depending on how much weight is put on the h2h. Personally I like CDH as 5 but that doesn’t mean much.SpreadOut! wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 11:00 pm With 7 of 8 AA teams having punched their tickets thus far—and whoever wins between Gentry and Hill sure to not be seeded—what are people thinking seeds will be? Here’s what I’m thinking…
1. Tonka
2. Edina
3. MG
4. Andover
5. Lakeville South
- CDH
- Moorhead
- Gentry/Hill
I could see MG and Edina flipping places, but don’t think it really matters much.
What do others think?
The top 3 will not want to meet them in the first round.
And Andover handled them pretty well early in the season and would like to get them.
LS Cretin and Gentry have not done anything great to get the 5 seed.
Take it to the bank.
Crazy. And if you took it even a little further, 0-10 against any AA teams that made their section final. Regardless, some team's fanbase in the top 3 isn't going to be happy to draw the Hill card Thursday at the X
Was literally about to write this. I'd like to go back to the first year they started seeding 1-5 with 6-8 being a random draw, and see how many times the #8 seed would have been the #8 if there was a full seeding. I swear it feels like literally every year.
I so wish the MSHSL would just put the random draw on You Tube TV. I just can't believe anyone there cares enough to rig the draw. It's not like the tournament doesn't get enough interest, that they need to conspire. Also, there's no reason they couldn't seed 1 - 8 if they wanted to.
I personally don't think its a conspiracy. But it sure seems like 9/10 the 'random' #8 would have been the actual #8. So are they putting the 3 random team names in a hat and having a guest drawer pull them out? Frankly I think they should put the whole selection process on YouTube. Why not? I'd tune in to watch that 30 minutes!East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:43 amI so wish the MSHSL would just put the random draw on You Tube TV. But hey, that tin foil hat looks great on you.
I think what they do is put the 3 names in a hat and draw one. Say Moorhead comes out, they go, oh let's put them against Edina. Okay Cretin came out, how about against Maple Grove. Works every time and is completely random what name comes first...BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:45 amI personally don't think its a conspiracy. Its hard, because the best time slot to pull the upset is the 11 AM game (or whatever it is now). Sometimes you catch the #2 seed sleeping. That said, night games are so much more fun. Its nice here in Cali, because the first game starts at 9 AM. Somehow my work schedule will be really light later this week...BlueLineSpecial wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:48 am Also, pretty happy actually that Hill got the #1 6PM game. As others have said, I'm not expecting a lot. So I suppose I'd rather lose in primetime than at 11AM. This gives me something to look forward to during the morning sessions.
Minnetonka absolutely shellacked Hill in their regular season meeting in January. 5-0 and shots were like 50-12. I think Hill will give them a better game...and maybe the stars align and they steal one. But this was the one regular season game that felt totally out of reach for HM.
I think that is true for an inexperienced coach/team, to catch the 2 seed early. But that is not true of this year's MG squad. It's their 4th consecutive trip, and they have strong memories of falling inches short last year. And Giles will be businesslike with the Hornets.Sparlimb wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:07 amIts hard, because the best time slot to pull the upset is the 11 AM game (or whatever it is now). Any crime needs a motive. What would be the motive here? What does the MSHSL have to gain by pitting Tonka against Hill as opposed to Cretin? I just don't see it. I just don't see why they would care enough to bother. Any effect on ticket sales or TV ratings is marginal at best and questionable at worst.Sparlimb wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:06 amI think what they do is put the 3 names in a hat and draw one. Last went in 2018 when they Beat Hill in the AA QF on their way to winning the AA State Title and Goldsworthy was the coach then and still is today.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:19 amI think that is true for an inexperienced coach/team, to catch the 2 seed early. In that respect, of the 3 top teams, Tonka may be the "easiest" to surprise. I can't find it right now, but they haven't been to the tourney much of late. And, has their coach taken a team there before?
Looking at their record overall and against the field, Tonka is an overwhelming favorite to win it all. They are high school kids and anything can happen, but they really should bring home this title.ClassAGuy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:23 amLast went in 2018 when they Beat Hill in the AA QF on their way to winning the AA State Title and Goldsworthy was the coach then and still is today.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:19 amI think that is true for an inexperienced coach/team, to catch the 2 seed early. I don't think there is any conspiracy. I think the coaches vote 1-8, but the MSHSL only announces seeds 1-5 so that none of the teams is labeled as the "bottom" seed. That is the explanation which the MSHSL has given in the past for only seeding 1-5 and there would be some logic to it if not for the fact that they don't use the same rationale for sections.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:22 amAny crime needs a motive. Who has anything to gain by this conspiracy? And couldn't they just gain that by seeding 1-8?
