Fantastic hockey game!

Yes, the live streamers were tripping over one another

The Bears brought a nice crowd

Coach Giles made brief appearance and wish him speedy recovery

I thought Coach Sagr make right decision with the timeout and leaving first line in- it gave them the best chance of winning but just didn’t work out this time

Love Owen Gallatin! Lots of skill and confidence for a 9th grader looking at a dozen Hornet flags . Last freshman Dman this talented was , guess who- Ben Brinkman. Owen made the the right decisions and executed them about 99 % of time, Mr Hockey Walker snuck behind him a couple times. Wish he’d shoot a little more, specially on the PP . Enjoyed meeting Mr and Mrs , see you again for the Section 4 championship

late musings on Edina/WBL

Lot of positivity flowing post-game versus WBL, but Im staying Costanza on this. I still felt the Hornet was sloppy coming out of their own zone and saw, yet again, a slower, more lax and non-fundamental display from their defensive leader. It seems teams new approach on aggressive forechecking is stifling their passes out of their own zone and the boys are pressing w/ every possession. I think BB gets frustrated and sees how easily teams are pushing the Hornet forwards outside the dots and then then he and Vorlicky push the puck up with their size, drive the net and see what happens...mostly out of frustration but it comes off very disjointed and leaves the forwards standing still waiting to see what happens opposed to a cohesive attack and filling lanes.
I also see the same entrance from neutral zone to left side of ice and then center jumps to left corner and starts to cycle over and over and over - is this the only strategy? Only style? Or is it their lack of size that just hinders anything else from transpiring as they continually get pushed out to corners and sides...Seemed Koumantzis had two players on him whole game but body crashing net up the middle for him so he'd unleash some crafty writers that nearly went it..one hit the crossbar as I remember.

I agree that Walker, once again, showed how special he is versus WBL but don't count out the effort, relentless at that, that Koumantzis gave. WBL keyed on him entire game after his 4 goal, 5pt night versus Bville...but DK was maybe the only aggressive 2-way Hornet that actually recorded a check!
Yes, its another win and the sky is not falling - but a top 5 team in state should no be displaying poor puck movement, sloppy, lazy turnovers routinely, in consecutive games, at midpoint of season. Its cause for concern. BB has to get mentally squared away and let the game come to him. The more you press the less you accomplish.

Giles maybe can't return soon enough. Tighten up and right the ship.
All due respect to Holy Angels, but skipping this game as if it doesn't end in running time then no review needed, right? But am working on some comparative measurable like upper versus lower classmen, total games played, overall team size, etc for this years' top ranked teams compared to the Edina back-2-back title squads of '13 & '14. Sure, you can't measure the size of heart, but lets go with what we can measure and see where it nets out.

Here's to good games this Saturday and health to all!

May have missed the memo here, and I apologize if that's the case. But where has Giles been/what's going on there?

All those hip checks finally caught up to him? Good luck to him on a complete and speedy recovery.

That brings back some memories there. I can vividly see him wedging some guy into the boards in that N Star jersey. I'm sure he layed a few out in his UMD jersey as well. Good stuff Mnhockey.

Yes, back surgery. Bone spurs...last couple games before surgery he would lay flat on back before during (intermissions) and after games...slow, tough recovery. Godspeed coach!
