Wow, we're up to 29 who've posted their predictions - really good to see. And welcome and good luck to all who are trying it for the first time.
Closest game tonight, according to our group, is the battle of the two Lakeville's. We're about evenly split on this one. So GO SOUTH!!!
Final reminder to those who have not yet posted but are considering joining in: the 4:45 deadline for the Wayzata/Chaska-Chanhassen game is just a little more than two hours away. Predictions for all the other games are due two hours later, at 6:45.
Finally, a special reminder to hockeymaven to edit your post and add your picks for tonight's games by these deadlines (pm sent).

Scores and results so far tonight:
Wayzata 3, Chaska/Chanhassen 0
Maddie Wolsmann, Izzy Shannon and Samantha Meister each scored goals and Natalie Heising had two assists for the Trojans. Sarah Stelter stopped all 22 StormHawks’ shots for the shutout.
Easthockeydad, in his very first “Big Games” contest, takes the early lead with his 3-0 score prediction. 25 others who forecasted a Trojans win are right behind with a point each.
Red Wing 2,
St. Paul United 5
St. Paul United continued their winning ways with a dominant 5-2 win over Red Wing. They were led by Sena Hanson and Lauren Boettcher who combined for four of the United’s five goals. Kudos to Red Wing’s Tyler McGrath who had 56 saves in a losing effort.
Everyone who posted a score earns at least a point for heavily favored SPU’s win. In addition, FOUR guessed the score and tack on the bonus point: newcomer THEBUCKSTOPSHERE, and veterans u12dad, The Bone and mnhockey3535.
Warroad 4, East Grand Forks 1
Madison Oelkers, Jen Phillips and Mariah Gardner each had a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors. Warroad fired 60 shots at the Green Wave’s Mckenzie Whalen, who managed to stop 56 of them.
A heavy majority – 23 of 29 – had Warroad winning this one. Pretty amazing is that SIX of those 23 also got the score right: The Bone, Bardown96, puckdreams, mnhockey3535, MNHockeyFan

and rascalbrock.
Centennial 2,
Maple Grove 3 (OT)
As I posted earlier the Crimson edged the Cougars 3-2 in OT. Game stats have not been reported on the Hub as yet, so I’ll just post our contest results:
22 picked No. 6AA Maple Grove to win and there are three who add the bonus: hockeybozo, Misterright and MIYY4U.
First day standings will be put up as soon as the scores of the Lakeville North/South and Hopkins/Orono games are made final.

Lakeville North 2, Lakeville South 4
The Cougars used balanced scoring, getting goals from four different players, to defeat crosstown rival Lakeville North 4-2. The Cougars also won the shot battle by a large margin, 40-21.
As I mentioned earlier our panel was very evenly divided on this game, with 15 favoring North, 13 South and one predicting a tie. The average score for everyone participating was dead even at 2.2 to 2.2! Surprisingly, there were no correct scores.

2. Bardown96 - 7 points (all six + one score)

In a battle of the 9th and 10th ranked teams in Class A, host Red Wing and visiting New Prague skated to a hard fought 4-4 tie. Two players had three points each to lead their respective offenses: New Prague's Jordan Anderson had two goals and an assist, while Red Wing's Carley Martey scored a goal and added two assists. For the game the Trojans outshot the Wingers 49-29.
In our contest "The Bone" - being the only prognosticator to predict a tie game - was this evening's HUGE winner. Not only did he foresee a tie game he also predicted the 4-4 score, and in the process picked up TWO POINTS on EVERYONE ELSE in the field. In the years I've been doing this I don't recall anyone ever doing this. A BIG CONGRATS to The Bone!
1. So
The Bone adds two to his first place standing and now has
10 points, giving him a 3 point lead. That's 7 for 7, with 3 of those being correct scores!
2 - 22. Everyone else: add zero to their previous point total!
It'll take a small miracle for someone to challenge The Bone and make a game out of it, but I guess after tonight nothing would surprise me.

As of 10:00pm only two games reported as final:
Hill-Murray 9, Lakeville North 0
[
- not which team won, but the score!
]
The Pioneers really flexed their muscles tonight in a 9-0 blowout of Lakeville North - on the Panthers' home ice, no less. Three Pioneers had three point nights to lead the devastating attack: Wisconsin recruit Mekenzie Steffen scored twice and added an assist, while Lindsey Featherstone and Abigail Boreen each had a goal and two assists. Mari Johnson had to make just 10 saves for the shutout.
No surprise that there were no correct scores in this one. All but one picked up a point.
Minnetonka 3, Stillwater 2
Stillwater's Briana Russell scored twice in the opening period to forge a 2-0 lead, but No. 2AA Minnetonka held the Ponies scoreless the rest of the way while scoring three times to eke out a narrow 3-2 win. Leading the comeback was the Skippers' Emma Bigham, who scored in the second period to make it a one goal game. Then in the third Presley Norby took over, scoring both goals - each assisted by Gopher recruit Kippin Keller - to secure the win. Shots on goal were surprising close at 29-27 Tonka.
The polar opposite of the first game, this one was much closer than our panel thought it would be. But like the first game, everyone but one got the winner right with no correct scores.
Other games will be reported on as they are posted as final, and the standings will be posted once all games are final.
