Mikey is going to Waterloo in the USHL next year. Maybe that is a factor. Reifenberger and Begley might be playing for the blades. Not sure what the national tournament schedule is.

All 3 were at NDTP camp, so automatic locks to it again this year and don't have to play in the early phases.

If this is true, why is Conner Mayer on the Section 6 roster?

The kids who attended the NTDP evaluation camp but don't make the NTDP team will all receive invites to the USA national camp in July. They don't need to participate in their state/regional camps but can choose to do so if they want. Guessing that Conner Mayer simply wanted to play this weekend.

So how many free passes will there be here and any more surprises? To give credit where credit is due the 1 minute power plays is a vast improvement over those penalty shots. Now bring in some unaffiliated coaches and evaluators and cut the cost in half and we're getting somewhere. Oh and move it to Braemar.

UNREAL! The player with the most assists and number two in points does not advance. I wasn't there, but know this kid and no reason for him not to advance. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Just goes to show play on the ice has little to do with who advances and who does not.
VERY SAD

I agree with MWS. Play at the festival seems to have little correlation to which kids move on. My bet is that if would bring in a group of evaluators from another state to the festival who had no history with or connection to these players, the "final 54" list would be a lot different.
And by the way, while MWS is probably right that the stats mean little to who is selected, it would be nice nonetheless if the stats were correct. Blatant errors about which kid scored or who gets credited with assists should not happen. At a minimum, the team's coaches should check the sheets for accuracy after the games.

Here's the bottom line:
If your kid, or any kid is good enough to play at the next level HE WILL GET NOTICED eventually. This is not a make or break deal. If anything, it is a good teaching lesson that sometimes life isn't fair! People can and will complain till the end of time that this process is political or unfair, but it won't change anything.

Just to be clear, not talking about my kid. Missing my point, which is the same others have made over and over, these events are clearly a $$$ grab based upon reputation and name. Your right nothing will change until those in charge decide to change it if they ever will. What is sad is it does not have to be like it is.

How do you define money grab?
And who do you think is grabbing the money?

So if this is the perception of people and they know this going in (and their/your son doesn't have the 'name' or 'reputation'), why are they still trying out? If they are trying out and not making it, why complain after when they "thought/perceived" this up front?

People do it because the practices and games are worthwhile. Also players want recognition in their association, district and section. The players want to be on the ice with the best players they compete with during the winter and AAA seasons.
The final 54 tournaments are outstanding and the best hockey in the state winter or summer.

Elliott-
You seem to have some insight as to how the process works. Will there be 12 Forwards, 6 Defense and 2 goalies selected to go to New York or are those numbers already reduced by the players who were automatic invites due to their invite to the NTDP Camp in Ann Arbor. I think this is the rub. For example, if you are a one of the 6 goalies playing this weekend in the 54's, are you playing for 1 spot because there was a MN goalie invited to the Ann Arbor NTDP camp or will they still send two?
It would be great if you were able to share some insights in this area.

Again, then why complain when they don't make it, if they know going in how it usually goes?

Without a doubt cost for four games, a meaningless practice a jersey and socks is expensive, but all of my kids that have played in these events have really had a ton of fun, made new friends and played in some really good games. I know some of the families on our team stayed in St. Cloud and made a fun weekend out of it outside of hockey as well. Scouts??? I am sure I saw several at the 2005 in St. Cloud.... REALLY, it is not always about scouts and whom is watching, especially at the youngest ages. I don't ever recall either of these festivals promoting there would be scouts in attendance either. GEEZ
This was your quote above on the youth forum now you changed your tune over on the high school forum eh....

I don't know this year's numbers. But people must remember this is a USAH tryout. MH runs the local tryout in their own manner but USAH determines what, when and whom. Their players are moving on. For those that do come from 'no where' to go on, it's great. But that should not be what drives the players. As a parent, it should be recognized that just being at this level is extremely prestigious. The hockey ops committe and hp subcommittee should know but should not keep it a secret. If the participants do not know that is wrong. They can contact me and I will bring it to those people that are running it.
The faults in the system should be brought to the attention of MH. I know some people fear retaliation or being labeled, but that is one reason why I make my self assesible here.

I can tell you that the play at the festival has a 100 percent correlation to which kids move on. They identify the top talent and who performs well that weekend. There are 3-5 kids per team that are easily identifiable after the first two days that should be locks. After that it is a crapshoot and it is all based upon performance.

I agree with Sats on this one. If a kid doesn't make the final 54 or even his section team it's just not that important. Getting cut from the section team might have been the best motivation my son ever had during youth hockey. Can the process be infuriating? Absolutely , but if a kid can play they'll find him eventually.
