Let me make sure I've got this right. Bowlby committed to St. Lawrence the summer after scoring zero goals as a junior? Something doesn't add up.[/quote]

What are you suggesting?

Having great connections never hurt anybody.

Don't get me wrong, the kid has worked his rear end off the past two years to improve as much as he has. He's a kid with division 1 talent, who (with a couple of years of juniors) would get interest from schools regardless of what his last name is. With that being said, less than .01% of hockey players in this country would get any interest from D1 schools after a completely scoreless season. Let alone an offer.

Life isn't fair. A kid with a considerable amount of family influence behind him in the hockey hotbed of the country is going to have way more opportunity than the son of a blue collar guy from rural MN.

Jacks fall behind Hornets 2 - 0 in period 1. Having read the posts on this forum, the Hornets, brimming with confidence, come out slow (cocky) in the second period and fall behind 3-2. Game ends 3-2 with the Jacks tender being the difference. :D

42, 31, 28, 23, and 20. Those are the top five point getters(hub) for Bemidji in the regular season. With the schedule that they played and all the hype that people(elliott) have been giving them wouldn't a reasonable guy expect a little more performance. I mean they went south of Duluth like four or five times.. And it was to play teams like Monticello and Sartell. Yes they are the unknown but a team of Edina's caliber is unknown to Bemidji as well.
6-1 and thats if Edina puts the dogs away early.

Experienced Hornets + Jacks with First-time jitters = recipe for a blowout.

I think someone referenced that the Spuds pulled off the enormous upset several years ago against Edina in the first round, so there is that possibility.

One big difference between Moorhead and Bemidji is their schedules. The Spuds regularly play cities teams several times every year. Almost half of their schedule this year was against cities schools. So when they do make it to the tournament, they aren't in awe of the bright lights and the cities schools. Bemidji doesn't have that experience to fall back on.

Having said that, it's the state tournament and anything can happen. If the Jacks can survive the first 5 minutes of the game and not fall behind by a couple goals, they might have a shot. I think Tharaldson will have to play out of his mind though.

Prediction: 5-1 for the Hornets

I don't think the individual point totals matter a whole lot for Bemidji. No one would choose them in a shootout anyway. In this specific matchup they have a few advantages. They are faster than Edina and will have to utilize that to catch them off guard early. They are also very physical and have strong goaltending. It's going to have to be a low scoring game for them to win. Edina is certainly deeper but they are routinely the deepest team in the state.

Anyway, my point is that I think it's short sighted to only look at the point totals.

I really doubt this, I am sure Bemidji is fast, but faster than Edina?
Giles was quoted in a mnhockeyhub article saying this might be the fastest team he has ever had with Edina.
If Bemidji has a team this year that is faster than any team from Edina in the last 16 years I would be astounded.

Short sighted..? Maybe but Edina is going to put the puck in the net. I am simply saying they might have issues finding the back of the net. Whereas many of the other teams in this tournament do not. As for being faster that Edina we will find out on Thursday, excuse me if I don't take your word.

I see two big differences between that game & this game.

1) Moorhead & Edina played earlier that year at the Schwan Cup at Xcel. Edina won 3-0 with an empty net goal. Moorhead was missing Johnson, who was somewhat of a sparkplug for that Spud team. While an upset, that Edina team was vulnerable. They had a bit of cred from everyone for their 5-0 whitewashing of Jefferson in the section final, but they did have some weaknesses. And it wasn't as big an upset as it has been made out to be.

2) There was a lot more pressure on Edina in 2009. That was the last shot for that senior class, so the pressure was heavy. They got up 1-0 & was a 1-1 game after 1, but Moorhead opened up a 2 goal lead on Edina, and you could sense a bit of panic in Edina, who other than getting it within a goal & almost tying it up 15 seconds later, could not overcome that pressure. This Edina team has a lot of players that have won not only 1 title, but 4 players have won 2. If Edina doesn't win it this year, it may be seen as a disappointment in the short-term, but it definitely would not be considered a failed career because of not winning a title. Bemidji will no doubt probably play loose, but I don't see this Edina team feeling any pressure and will definitely take advantage of their experience.

I do see Bemidji having a chance though, if they do the following:
-Goalie plays lights out (a top 1 or 2 game of his Lumberjack career)
-Edina takes penalties, getting them out of their rhythm & not involving their depth to get into a groove (although Malmquist & Wait are pretty filthy on the PK)
-Edina lets them hang around going into the 3rd and into the first 5 minutes of the 3rd. Letting Bemidji believe that they can win may just cause them to actually go out & do it!

I still see 5-2 Edina, without an ENG, and the outcome considered settled with 5 minutes left in the game.

I have not seen Edina and I have seen Bemidji in two games. I do not believe this team has the top end talent that Roseau had last year. They are very quick though and are good defensively. I do not think Edina will run away with this game as some have posted and if Bemidji can keep it close, anything can happen.

They certainly don't have a Yon, someone who can take over a game but from top to bottom they are deeper. They won't have to run their first line ragged over the course of the game to keep it close.

if the "Cake Boys" take the "Backchecking/Forechecking Machine" lightly... this will be a close one. If they don't.. should be a 3+ goal win for them.

Never before have I quoted myself, but the recipe is being shown in the Mahtomedi/New Ulm game. :D

Little bit different scenario since Mahtomedi has 0 players with State tourney experience and New Ulm has two I believe. For a lot of these small towns just getting to the tournament the first year is the goal. Edina is loaded with state experience Bemidji might have a few parents who were in HS in 86....

While Bemidji probably isnt as fast as Edina, they're not completely outmatched. Some good goaltending and a bit of puck luck crashing the net and things could get interesting.

Well Elliot,

Here we go.
I've seen Bemidgi play and Edinal play.
Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmidgi is definately good enough to win this game.
It's the team that has to believe that though.

Good luck to the Paul Bunions

Edina just beat Burnsville 10-1. Does Bemidji have as good of a chance as some people think?

I don't think so. Bemidji's best chance is that Edina doesn't take the game seriously. That's a possibility, of course, but even so Bemidji is a looong shot. Best of luck to both teams!

I am watching the intros.
Edina looks cocky to me.
Bemidji is going to surprise them out of the gate.

But, it is a 3 Period Game.
Bemidji has to believe they can win. :)
