Yeah, we'll give New Ulm some credit, but you'll also notice it is the defense that is weak, not so much the offense. It was the same with Luverne.
The 3A schools get great target practice against other southern schools (e.g., Fairmont, Worthington), and don't really need strong defenses until they run up against Metro schools. I can see why the New Ulm coach wanted more scheduled games against Metro area schools, and fewer against southern schools.

They will hardly break a sweat vs the Eagles.
If the Zephs aren't breaking a sweat yet, maybe they should start.

Score and shots lead me to believe that the game is fairly competitive...?
Wasn't expecting this tight of a game.... Are the stats misleading?

I stand corrected. Great effort by NU!

Amen. But who would've thought it would be a one goal game with seven minutes left?

6-3 Mahtomedi.
Shots 37-25.
I would say those stats tell the story. Mahtomedi was much more skilled, and they have good depth for a class A team. That could help them come Friday & Saturday. Nice effort by New Ulm. A couple bounces their way and that early whistle that disallowed one of their goals, and they would have been in it right until the end.

Not really. New Ulm's top 2 lines can skate with Mahtomedi, no problem. A couple bad plays on defense let them down in the 2nd, or this could have been even more interesting. Mahtomedi's talent finally took over some toward the end, though.

Mahtomedi 6-3 New Ulm. Final.
Congrats to New Ulm for making a good showing. I suspect they will face the other southern school (New Prague) in the consolation semi's.

That 2nd goal by New Ulm (#17) was game highlight for me anyway. That single moment is why I'm here again this year, and every year.
To the guys watching at home, what was your call on the goal waved off for NU - judged to be in net only after whistle? I think it was a good call but lots of angry fans in blue.
