The school Pep Band is still the best for atmosphere and comaraderie. Otherwise can it and shut up, this is high school hockey. <img src=

Music at High School Games

Gotta weigh in on this one, great topic. And some great responses. GR19 makes a great list, more rinks should follow his lead.
It strikes a nerve in me when nosey ADs, or teachers, or coaches, or parents, or board members, or old dudes who played 40 years ago, try to dictate what goes on at games that are played for the benefit of the kids who play them.
If a group of 16-17-18 year-olds that have hung out together for years, sweated together, bled together..... well, if they need to hear Nine Inch Nails until their ears bleed to get them going, so be it. All those people listed above need to stay out of it. Of course there are limits. Most songs have "clean" versions. Use them. There's loud, and then there's ridiculous. Stay below the ridiculous level, and no one is hurt by it. And if it's still too much for your old, sensitive ears, stay out of the rink until the warm-ups are done. Smart teams do whatever it takes to create an atmosphere that gets them juiced up for the first couple minutes. Of course it doesn't last, but it can set a tone that allows a lesser team to hang in the game that much longer.
I remember tons of great goals and passes and hits thru the years, but I also remember the glass vibrating at the RCC in Alex to PowerMan 5000 before an Alex-Fergus tilt a couple years ago. And I remember Metallica rocking the bleachers before a Roseville - WBL clash. I can still feel the chills from a game at the X between the Gophs and Notre Dame one pre-season. Not from the game itself, but from Papa Roach's "Last Resort" whipping the crowd, and the players, into a frenzy.
There, my rant is over. Music enhances the game when it's done right. Rinks who play old, crappy music, deserve old, crappy hockey to watch.
The game should be fun for the kids who play it and their friends who come to watch them. Sit behind the glass in the lobby with the rest of the Grandmas if you don't like "the noise".
Like I said, some of you guys have had great choices.
I suggest anything hard from Incubus, P.O.D., No Address, Linkin Park, Dark New Day, Disturbed, Trapt, GodSmack, and of course, 9 Inch Nails.
Read John Buccigross's column on ESPN's site each week, he makes some great music recommendations from some little-known bands.

Gotta go with the pep band.

But in the locker room I like various songs from Slipknot. Bodies by Drowning Pool is a great one, and some Disturbed songs.

Here is my shot in the head list. Means if you play this at a game you deserve to die.

YMCA
We Will Rock You
Hit Me with Your Best Shot
Unbelievable
Danger Zone
Miami Vice theme music

If you use music from that list, all I can say is punky bruster sucks, the smurfs are dead, and do you get good gas mileage with your time machine?

Nice comments by the last post. Someone else who gets it. The music has to be loud during warm ups. I usually get complaints from a few old farmer lyle/carl/billy inbreeds, but the players want energy in the building, so enjoy it or leave.

Fergus Falls plays music even between whistles when opposing team gets a penalty the play hit the road jack when player skates to penalty box.

The pep bands are great, but music helps when they are absent, which is 9 of Rapids 11 home gams.

Students sit down? Standing up shows your excitement levels are too high to sit down. I especially hate it when people are sitting when their team scores. You're supposed to explode out of your seat like other passionate fans!

Too right GR19 I appreciate all the fans that come out but if your coming to the games just cuz everyone else is there and you sit after goals. . . stay at home and twiddle your thumbs there.
