Ted Brill grew up in St. Paul and I assume this is why it is held at Wakota.
This program was started for seniors that were being missed and didn't have any offers. I think the "Chicago Trip" got pretty competitive and "winning" became more of the focus... Which is why some of the committed players ended up on the teams. Good Luck to all who were picked. May some lucky scout find a "Diamond In The Rough"!

Overview.....
For over 30 years, the Ted Brill Great 8 has provided high school seniors the opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities to coaches and scouts from junior, collegiate and professional teams. The three-day tournament has expanded from two region teams (outstate & metro), in its inaugural season, to eight teams that represent the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) eight sections.

Organized by the Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association and Minnesota Hockey, the Ted Brill Great 8 is designated as a national development program by USA Hockey and continues to play a vital role in player development and exposure in Minnesota.

Ted Brill Great 8: Seniors from Class A and Class AA teams in each section are selected by the coaches. Each coach has the ability to nominate players, and a vote is held to determine the 17 player roster made up of two goalies, six defensemen and nine forwards. The teams compete in a weekend tournament with all of the players being evaluated for potential participation in the CCM Minnesota High School Hockey National Invitational Tournament.

Dates: March 21 – March 23, 2014 at Wakota Arena

How is it that some teams from the same section get as many as 5 players selected over ,say a top 5 scorer (class A) and from a team who won the section and was top scorer at state (A & AA), and all tourney? Yeah, I'm kinda sour
Perhaps the player did not want to attend....

Perhaps, if the player wants to know, he should talk to his coach....

Exiled One--Thanks for info on Slattery

MinnHockFan99--- I haven't followed this tourney in past nor am I planning to go this year so soon after end of the season and Excel Tournament. However, I did a quick count through the rosters in terms of AA kids representation. I found roughly 35-40 AA kids that I have on my own list for top 100 AA kids in state .(Others might count more or less) I don't know how this compares to representation in past years, so I cant comment on that. Or are you saying this years AA kids in general were a weaker class than past classes?

For others debating to go or not. If you have not seen Hunter Shepard in person, that alone is reason to go to at least a Section 7 game. I hope very much he can land D1 somewhere eventually.

So, Austin Isaacson? My research skills are weak, so maybe I found the wrong person.

Survey says!......... [-(

He threw you off by noting the number of kids who made it from Mankato West. The "top 5 Scorer" plays in a different section.

It's a bit of apples and oranges to compare the number of kids selected from a program on one section team vs. another. More relevant to look at the number of kids from each program within a section team. And in this case, that top 5 scorer's program has more kids on the section team than the AA team that did very well for themselves at State.

I'm also pretty certain that coaches make nominations before the State Tournament, which makes the "top 5 scorer's" impressive accomplishments there irrelevant with respect to the Ted Brill team.

Yeah WestMetro I just feel - have no hard facts - that this season overall HS hockey play was down compared to other years. I hope all kids play as long as possible if they love to play, as at some point almost everyone gets told they can't play anymore - I do feel some of the kids who have been recently committing D1 I would be surprised if they are factors at that level. Again I hope they all do great just am skeptical from what I've seen.

For 1AA/1A, Hazlett has a knee injury, so Isaacson from NP is added.

Not sure about that one. If we were in Duluth at the "jazz club" for sure! (but I still can't get that smell off of me from that fine establishment) ;)

Jersey's seems to be the place - 5:00pm ish. 6:30 is our game time - Section 6. See you there. PM if you'd like and we shall meet and reveal Identities!

Power went out mid game due to a car crash outside. Second games were called. It was pitch black in both rinks. Thats a first for me.
