After 2 still 3-1, AHA had a pp but DE's goalie made a few good stops and they couldnt do anything. DE seems to have teh momentum at least mentally. DE hit a post too. Smith looking shaky but we will see. <p></p><i></i>

Lots of Keaton Smith bashing going on. Put it this way... If your returning goalie from a team that won it all last year is your weakest link than I think the rest of the MSHL is in serious trouble. <p></p><i></i>

AHA wins 4-3 and outshoots DE about 33-13.<br><br>And yes, goaltending is the weak link. East fought back and gained some respect in the process. A good game. <p></p><i></i>

78% THIS game. Coming into this game he was at 97%. Everybody has a weak game now and then...give the kid a break. His defensemen hung him out to dry totally a couple of times...so why isn't anyone commenting about that? <p></p><i></i>

The final score may have been 4-3 but I was still very impressed with AHA. They looked better in the first period then they did last year in state. If they can keep up the same tempo they played with in the first period for a whole game I don't see anyone beating them. That being said, they did let down and there goaltending wasn't very solid. I think those two things have to give other teams some hope that they are beatable. <p></p><i></i>

While 97% may be true puckhead, it wasn't like AHA had been playing great teams those first four games he built up that save percentage. A corpse probably could have had a save percentage above 90% given the talent difference between AHA and their first four opponents. <p></p><i></i>

Most if not all HS hockey teams have a tough time playing a full 51 minutes. AHA is a great team but they are still HS kids. Doesn't make any sense to say "if they play like they did in the first period for three periods..." because most HS teams cannot sustain that level of play even with that amount of talent. That is what makes HS hockey so exciting.<br><br>Blaming the close score on a goalie is pretty superficial. Smith is a very good goalie and his D is excellent too. Why not give credit to Turnbull and the Duluth East players? They did a great job to stay in the game and make it competitive. <br><br>AHA is a great team but they will be beat. <p></p><i></i>

My point, Finn, is that there is more to blame than goaltending. If the netminder hadn't been challenged before this game then his defense clearly hadn't been challenged either. The D gave it up two out of the three goals. Look, I am not a Keaton Smith fan by any stretch, but I do become weary of the spotlight on the goaltender when it shouldn't necessarily be there. The defense sat back for two of those goals, period. <p></p><i></i>

AHA had my head spinning after 1. Then they looked human the rest of the game. I can see how CEC dominated East though. Duluth East doesn't have the size and speed I'm used to seeing. And I know that sounds funny to some based on the fact East hung around with AHA. I think AHA let up a little bit and they caught East napping early. Randolph the great hockey mind he is got his team to make the adjustments needed. East will have it very tough making state this season. Both CEC and Rapids have great goaltending, along with 3 decent lines and solid D. Man 7AA is gonna be a dog fight. East, CEC, ER, and GR should all be in the top 10. <p></p><i></i>

Yes an awful lot of Smith bashing here. Look and listen a little closer to the game. The first goal for East came after the whistle, and the third goal the player was completly in the crease, but I was watching the monitor I was at ice level and could not see the play. AHA looked a little flat in the second and third period. I think they are tired for some reason. I know that one of them is sick and really struggled, but most people would not have noticed. Jay Barriball is excellant with the puck, the top line of Barriball, Matson and Hurley works their tails off to get the play to go their way. <br>Back to goaltending, when you sit there and have to watch all the play, you lose focus and your play will look less than stellar. AHA is an awesome team, no doubt. Remember "America's Team" in the NFL? Remember how easy is was to dislike them with some people's attitudes? You do that for AHA. <p></p><i></i>

They were circling Tunbull's skate deflecting the puck, not him being in the crease. They were looking to see if it hit his stick after it hit his skate or not. <p></p><i></i>

GR19 stated a while back, "Randolph, the great mind that he is, made adjustments" Could you be so bold as to tell us what adjustments he made? What "Brook's" like changes did he make? My guess is that after the first period my told his team to take some pride in caring for the puck.<br>Aside from that, a very good week of hockey for the Hounds. Mike's strength is not some magical bench strategy, but rather how he has developed this young team as a whole. Leis is solid. Turnbull shows he can be prolific, and the whole team should gain a whole dose of confidence over this past week. Nice job boys. 7AA is shaping up to be a very interesting section. <p></p><i></i>

Watching this game it was obvious, that Randolph has his team here for development. He started a all soph line that has 2 quality players and one player that wouldn't be a factor at the jv level! basically he fed them to the wolves, as they got lit up by AHA's top line on the first shift. To say that AHA is unstoppable, is a big stretch. The change randolph made was to match up a more experienced line with barribal, mattson,hurley. they obviously shut them down. not only did they shut them down, they scored 3 goals against them! Turnbull's coast to coast goal exploited alot of weakness in the unbeatable angels. defense is not that good. All of the East goals were hard earned hustle goals. East is awful on defense to say the least, they had at least 2 text book assists to the Angels in there own zone. leis played another good game, he is getting no help from his D. He has put the hounds in position to win day in and day out. I look for him to be a big factor down the stretch. As far as the statement that AHA let up, teams that let up don't win championships! Both teams have alot of work to do, but they have great coaches that can do it. Best of luck to both <p></p><i></i>
