Saw Parker Reno play 4 times. Good player but think that Nellson is a better defenseman. I know everyone is enamored with the points defensemen put up and it IS a large part of the game. But I am going to throw a name out there who noone has mentioned. Read that this Senior Skater (Alex Wood, #16) from Lakeville North tore his ACL in the prep bowl. Missed 8 games and came back to play the rest of the season. I saw this player against EP, Benilde, Eagan, Hill Murry, Edina, and Moorehead. Not a better DEFENSIVE player was on the ice especially in front of the net and on both ends of the ice. A real warrior and you had better not have your head down with the puck........he would hit you.......like a truck but took very few penalties durig the year. Stickhanding skills were not the best.........but he could play on any team in the state. Does that make him "all state"? Probably not.........and am sure there are other players out there who also could be described the same way.

Where is the complete list including the honorable mention?

Everyone knows this is a popularity and exposure list, there are a lot of players that could be on all state if there was an equal evaluation system.

I never saw Edina play before the state tournament, but in the three tournament games that I saw Parker Reno, he was the most dominate player on the ice. He controlled everything when he was out there. Offensive rushes, defensive shut downs. If his season was anything like this, he should have been on the AP 1st team, and possibly even MR. HOCKEY. I wish the Gopher's would have gotten him.[/quote]

Parker Reno was best dman in the state this year OTHER than Tommy Vannelli. Have to agree strongly with you on this. Kid can skate and does everything right in his own zone. RPI got a steal with this kid.[/quote]

Must be part of the Edina PR machine to make 1 of the top 3 teams (albeit behind Moore who wasn't nominated for Mr. Hockey). How about the perfect pass (turnaover) in the D zone to the opposing player that lead to a goal? To play at RPI, I'd suspect two years of juniors before making that leap.

Agree. Moore clearly more dangerous, with greater presence and he was so all season.

Jake missed eight games due to a serious injury. Did take him a bit to get going after that. Did you see the section championship game? He was by far the best player on the ice that night! Moore is a very nice player and I have mentioned that on other posts, but undrafted as far as I know and haven't heard if any D1 schools are recruiting him or not. The hockey people who voted on this are well-qualified and I'm sure considered their whole careers, not just one season.

Right. And though I do think Bischoff at his best is a more complete player than Meirs and probably has a higher ceiling (as his great performance in the 7AA final showed), missing a third of the regular season is a lot.

Much as I love Meirs as a player and think he got snubbed as a Mr. Hockey finalist, I would've given Vannelli my vote for the D-man of the year award. 2nd team all-state sounds about right for Moore (who is being actively pursued by D-I schools, to answer that question).

It always interests me when these teams are named and the debate that follows. So I can't help myself from joining in with the question on how Gersich was not on one of the 3 teams?
Did they come out with the list of honorable mention this year as in the past or did they eliminate it?

Congrats to the kids selected. I am a little shocked that Dingman didn't make the cut, but good picks nonetheless.

I agree...but Zevnik is pretty good as well...could have gone either way.

I am sure the sting of exclusion will subside when he starts his four years of free college.
