Game is closer than I thought at this point. Marshall goalie doing good. Still seems that SW Minnesota is far behind the rest of state in hockey.

Biggest issue down there is numbers. Every kid has a place on the team whether they work or not. Some play more than others but I don't know that any team in the SWC has tryouts? Maybe someone else knows.

A Mashall goal--from their 3rd line, no less. The Xcel finally has some life in it!

I figured it was something to that extent. Maybe more into football more.

Yea Marshall goal! Powerplay looked decent.

Basketball and wrestling are strong in the SW part of the state. So hockey teams are competing with those sports for talent.

The Marshall kids first goal of the tournament .... wait, first goal of the season. Although Breck is clearly better, I am dissappointed in their team play. Come on, you are playing section 3A and it is a two goal game in the second. Good luck with this kind of effort on Friday.

While this game might still get out-of-hand, let's give Marshall a little credit for putting up a fight and going in with a decent game plan to keep it close.

Marshall hasn't allowed tons of great chances, but looks like Breck isn't the same as other years where they made eVen great teams look like bantam teams.

Yea Breck has hardly looked impressive but you don't have to even look good to beat Marshall unfortunately.

Hopefully Duluth Marshall vs. Hermantown is a better game.

Wow the Stan Van Gundy double penalty, what a joke. Don't see how the Marshall player was roughing at all.

Does it seem as though Breck is getting frustrated?
Do you believe in miracles?!

I think he took another point-blank shot after the whistle.

Shots only 6-5 in Breck's favor this period.

I have a feeling it will be running time in the 3rd.

maybe someone else can contradict me, but I don't believe they do running time at state.

Refs are letting the little stuff go, just the way I think it should be done

There is still running time if up by 6 or more at state. Almost positive. Dont need to extend the game anymore than it already is.

Correct, though they will still stop for TV timeouts.

Alot closer than I expected through 2 periods. Breck looks lazy, playing pretty boy hockey, pretty sloppy. Give Marshall some credit, decent tending and hanging in there on the scoreboard.

And no, there is no tryouts for Marshall or any teams in section 3A.... Most teams dont even have enough for full JV teams... I think Marshall's JV has like 8-9 players.

Breck Coach "we are playing 3 on 5, need to get D involved". I guess that is why he is the coach. He sees what is going on and I don't recall more than a handful of passes back to the D. Nice observation coach.

doing my school rating thing I've done other years I'm giving Marshall a 2 out of 8, points for having a band and number of fans. Breck I'll give them a 1 out of 8, I'm giving them a misc point because I like how their students have bright colors on.

Schools get points for having things like bands, mascots, cheerleaders, etc at the game.

I think the last half of the period for Marshall will be very tough. They look to be tiring...
