A travesty regardless. How can two teams with horribly losing records <IN KNOW STATED EARLIER> North 8-16-1 (conf 5-11-1) and South 9-16 (conf 6-11) be seeded 1 and 3 in their section and now be playing for a trip to St. Paul? You look at all the GREAT teams out of sections like 6 and 3 who won't be playing in March and just say why? Hopefully St. Thomas gets added to 1AA vs loading up any other solid section.

Who's going? Who cares? It will be irrelevant in one game. I say the nod goes to North. Have fun.

IMHO.......The reason they leave 1AA alone is because they hope that it will help build hockey interest in the communities with less thriving teams. If rochester kids continuously see STA for example go to state from their section and their beloved high school team never get anywhere, why the heck would they want to play hockey? The league is attempting to build the sport statewide, not let the strong get stronger.

I understand where you come from in that a team with a very bad record will make it, but thats the way it is, so deal with it. the state is not going to change it so drastically that no one in 1AA will have a chance aside from the team they move there.

I saw in the section realignment thread someone mention that Century's numbers are so low they are moving to A... any truth to this?

That is what single A is for. It's just like a weak youth association having an A team for one legit player and THEN so the rest of the parents on the team can say their kid played A. End of the day they get their butts kicked, the kids have no fun, and the association's recruiting goes into a death spiral.

Put these teams at a level where they can excel AND potentially do something at State. That's the entire idea behind splitting AA vs. A in the first place.

The enrollment counts used to identify the 64 largest AA schools haven't been published. A lot of convincing circumstantial evidence suggests that Century will not be one of the 64 this year. This would indeed have them "moving" into the single A group.

But would they stay there? Separate question whether Century will decide to opt up and continue to play in AA. That's up to the school, and I (for one) haven't heard or read any mention of which way they are leaning.

1AA making history this year.. since they split into A and AA there has never been a section final featuring 2 teams with worse records and if North wins, they will have the worst record of any state tournament team ever at 11-16-1 (a record they already currently own from 2010). Also, at 8-16-1, North had the worse record of any team given the #1 seed in their section.

Not exactly the history you want to make, but history none the less. If you want a huge underdog this year at the tourny, you will get one!

8-16-1 is what i assume to be the regular season record since it is 25 games. 3 wins in sections would mean they would be 11-16-1 heading into the state tournament should they win tomorrow. therefore tying the record

I don't know, as it is, only Lakeville Schools will make it, what is the motivation now? The Lakeville schools are the 6th and 7th best teams in their conference, makes Lakeville look pretty pityful, and the rest of the section even worse. I remember when all the Lake Conference schools (what is currently Lake and South Suburban) were in one section, now four teams from that group can make it to the tournament. Things can change.

Big picture here.. Rochester and Lakeville have done what Edina, EP, Wayzata, Eagan and many others haven't.. They split schools. Lakeville would of been a state title contender for sure the last 4-5 years had they had one team. Rochester's talent level is down and the talent they do have is split between 4 schools. There is a fair amount of talent in the section but is so dispersed right now it will be tough for one team to continually put together year after year of great teams like these "super schools" can. South last year went 22-9, won 3rd in state and had Mr Hockey on their team.. this year they are 11-16. I'm not making excuses but I am saying this section will continue to struggle to put together more than 1 or 2 good teams any given year (none this year) because they don't always get the "cream of the crop" from the youth level.

Personally I would like to see the sections re-aligned vertically instead of horizontally, get more of a true mixture of teams, an equal amount committed to hockey to those who are not in each section.

Kind of a neat scene after the game, after the awards as North was gathered for pictures by the parents when some JV kids came on to the ice, some other students, and most of the parents and siblings were there and they all looked and acted like little kids at Christmas; wide eyed and just enjoying the moment. Nobody kicked them off, they all behaved, and with cell phones and cameras they'll have some really good pictures that just don't happen on the ice after a game like this.

In a world and sports environment where everything is so structured and focused kids were allowed to be kids for a while after the game and all was well.
