It appears Lourdes scratched by NP 3-2 in OT on the road.
Looks like 1A could be wide open this year with West and Northfield figuring into the equation, Lourdes are no longer the sure thing in 1A.
Lourdes is missing key players due to injuries. Wouldn't quite give up on Lourdes yet. Also Lourdes usually starts off the season slow as well.
How many players are the Eagles missing from football?
Lourdes had 5 players playing football including the Goalie that started tonight.

West 7, AL 3. Game was tied 3-3 until about the 16 minute mark of the 2nd period when AL was called for a 5-minute major/10 minute misconduct checking from behind penalty. West then scores with about 10 seconds remaining in the period. In the 3rd, the Scarlets capitalized on a 5-on-3 and had numerous power plays. Story of the game was penalties. The Tigers took some foolish penalties and the refs where calling a tight game. I thought the teams were pretty evenly matched skill-wise. Definately closer than what the final score says.

SCORES FOR 12/4
Rochester Lourdes over New Prague: 3-2 OT
Bloomington Kennedy over Northfield: 4-1
Owatonna over Faribault: 4-3
LSP over Mankato East: 3-2
Austin over Waseca: 7-1

If anyone was able to see the Lourdes/New Prague game, lets see if we can get some discussion on that started. I'd like to know how the teams matched up, thanks!

I don't know a whole lot about Kennedy but I was shocked to see Northfield lose to them 1-4.. Does anyone know if Kennedy is better this year, did Northfield perform poorly or was Kennedy just the better team?
I have to agree with Clutterbuck22 on the part about Lourdes and how they are still going to be the team to beat. (I'm assuming that's what he was trying to say in a round-about fashion) However, I'm not sure if anyone was counting them out or even whether I'd agree with the fact that they usually start off slow. To my understanding, they typically play New Prague early in the season and it is usually a close one similar to when they play them later in the year, it's a close one.
Two teams that I want to pick out and watch closely is Mankato West and New Prague.
Is Mankato West the real deal this year? It's a terrible way to determine which team is better but everyone does it: MW over NP 6-2. Lourdes over NP 3-2OT. Now I fully understand that this doesn't mean Mankato West is better than Lourdes but it does make a person think just a little.
New Prague has started a trend in the past years that I think a few people have started to pick up on. Playing up/down to their competition's level.. kinda like the Vikings (but that's a whole different topic that I don't even want to get started on...)
I'd love some feedback by someone at the game last night between NP and Lourdes! Let me know what you think about anything I said, I'd love some reactions, agreements, disagreements.

NP played physical and out worked RLHS. That beign said, RLHS has 1 very good line, then it really drops off. Most of football players are playing 2/3 line--they will probably pick it up
GWG was football player
Also-LHS does not have an key players out right now.
So far I am not impressed w LHS--

I think Lourdes is going to have a tougher time this year to repeat as section champs. What I see right now they lack balance in the 2nd and 3rd lines.
At this point in time I believe it will be Mankato West and Northfield pushing Lourdes at section time. New Prague could also be right there, will have to see more games.
I was told that the the Northfield-Bloomington Kennedy game was the following: BK has a nice skating squad, Northfield seemed flat maybe looking past BK. Also was told that there seems to be several "I" players vs "team" players. It seems like kids are going for individual records vs team records. A spectator said if they do not start playing as a team vs and all the individual game it could be a long season.
Looking forward to more discussion on some of the other games coming up.

I was at the New Prague -Lourdes game last night and I would like to give credit where credit is due!
It was a very good game as always when these two teams play, with that said I think that NP gave the Eagles everything they wanted and some! I don't like it when people come on and post excuses why the game was so close, ex., "Always start out slow", and " missing key players" "football guys are not up to speed". I think that the playing field is pretty much the same for every team at the beginning of the year as far as being a little out of sinc and soforth. The missing "key players " post made me laugh when I saw #20 and #7 for Lourdes on the ice, looked like they were all there to me. You want to talk about missing players, NP's top two scorers defected and the top goalie graduated so I thought the NP boy's held up pretty well. Granted Lourdes was a bit faster and polished it was a gutsy gritty effort by the Trojan's. This section is definitly up for grabs this year!!

I read a pre season article on Lourdes saying that they were missing some players due to injury in preseason practice and not to expect Lourdes at full stride until January while they find the right line combinations. And I was by no means suggesting that the struggles were due to football I was only answering a question on a previous post.

Great discussion going on here. First off, LHS had several players playing football, boohoo. Do you realize that MW and Northfield had a handful of players coming in late from football too?
What I was trying to say in my first post was that this section appears to be much more up for grabs than it has been the past few years. LHS will need to earn it this year, it figures to be an interesting battle.

Before the season started I saw Lourdes as the heavy favorite to win Sec 1A, and to me they are still the favorite. As for the NP/Lourdes game, nice job by NP. Btw, by Xmas nobody will be worried about how many football players each team had to wait for.
One question: when was the last time a Section 1A team actually beat Lourdes in the regular season?

Chan, Mayo and Faribault should be in bold.
Achiever NE Whatever? Na

In the 2009-2010 season Lourdes lost to both Red Wing and Northfield but ended up winning the section championship by beating NF in quarterfinals 2-1. NP in semis 4-1 and RW in Finals 3-0.

Thanks for the info on Lourdes, Washed. In other words, it's been years since they lost to anybody in the section. To me that means they are the favorite this year. If they are missing players for part of this season due to injury, I was not aware of that.
Bob - if you see Faribault beating Century tonight, what does that say about the strength of Albert Lea, who beat Faribault 7-1 this past week? Or are you just really down on Century (I realize their offense has not been rolling yet).

I'm surprised to see BadgerBob saying Century will lose, considering on the Rochester thread they're apparently the best team from that city...

Century has some injuries and some players out with rules violations. I think they will struggle for a while.
Roy, this season, I predict Mayo is the best team in Rochester, though rules violations have hit them too. Century has had a long run of being 1-2 with Mayo. But Century is in for a down year in my opinion. In fact, I'll say a down 2-3 years.
JM has rules violations too. Will hold up the #4 slot again.
LHS is the best behaved team in Rochester!

Well, since I decided to stay in this evening and not venture to any games, I decided I'd make my early season predictions considering I didn't do any preseason rankings.
How I think teams will get seeded for sections (top eight only):
1. Rochester Lourdes
2. New Prague
3. Northfield
4. Red Wing
5. Mankato West
6. Albert Lea
7. L-H/SP
8. Fairbault
As most of us know (those who follow section 1A) this section can get very confusing and tough to seed. With seeds 2-5 often being really up in the air. They could really go either way and if I were the one in charge of seeding, I'd probably want to just draw them out of a hat. But... that's why I'm not in charge.

This one is a final as well. Mayo wins 2 to 1 Shots on Goal 37 to 25 in favor of West. West also had a 5 minute major power play for a boarding call on Mayo in the second period that they did not score on.

Just finished watching west mayo. West took what seamed like more penalties with positioning infractions. Both teams played well. Mayo goalie had a excellent game and had a lot of team support in defensive zone. West had scoring chances but lacked the finishing desire. A lot of shots right in the pads.all in all a good game to watch.
