Been there done that. Choice squirts or whatever its called now is good B level hockey at best

I strongly feel that this statement is not true for the Super Squirt League at MM.

I watched portions of games on Sunday and observed a number of very talented players and very good hockey for this age.

Teams consisted of a few 01' Machine Orange players, bunch of 01' Machine Black Players, bunch of 02' Machine Orange, bunch of 02' Machine Black, and few 01' and 02' Blades. A number of these players are Pee Wee age.

Considering that some of players in league are top squirts from associations such as Orono, Jefferson, Elk River, Eagan, Sibley, Minnetonka, Woodbury, Champlin, and with other solid Pee Wee age players I don't believe many Squirt teams in the state could compete against the Super Squirt Teams.

IMO only a few of the very top Squirt teams could compete.

Towing the MM company line I see..... if you play Choice, you must be a top kid in your association. Or, more likely, the top kid that everyone couldn’t wait to see leave.

Your list of AAA rosters that make up the Super Duper League on the surfce looks good. But, what you failed to mention is that all MM AAA teams (with the exception of ’99 and ’00 Machine) are far from the top AAA teams in MN. In some cases, a distant 3rd and fading fast. I don’t know much about Orono, Minnetonka or Eagen, but the top player(s) from Jefferson, ER and Champlin are playing for their home town.

Getting tired of playing the same 3 Super teams over and over and over and over?

What team would said " Super Squirt " play for if the teams played ? With his schoolmates/neighborhood pals , Or Bernie/Parent"s team ??? This is for the kids that play for TWO squirt teams. Wow, thought most did one or the other. This thing is nuts !!!! How many "summer teams does "Super Squirt" play for ?? Hit it hard DAD/MOM/.

My boys were in the original squirt league and there were only 4 teams at that time. Now several years later, we really enjoy seeing all of the friends we met during that season at rinks around the metro as our boys play against those same kids. We didn't get sick of seeing the same teams over the season. Instead, the kids got to know one another well, developed some good rivalries, and never had a game they could coast through. A lot to be said for that last point.

The made isn't for everyone, but there's no denying the focus on skill development. Large associations can sometimes match the development, plus keep kids close to home with their buddies. That said, there's no reason to paint every kid or family that chooses the made as either a problem or towing some sort of company line.

If you want to go down that road, I'm sure you can also think of several similiar kids or families who fit the "overly passionate" mold in your own association.

Guy states his opinion, and you take some easy, oft-repeated shots. My question is why?

Just so I understand how this works, you can make any comment you want if it is prefaced with IMO? In that case, I"ll see your IMO and raise you a "With all due respect," and agree with chumby that Super Choice is good "B" hockey.

I stand corrected. The '99's and '00's may not be that good, but they're top 5 at least in MN. A few more decades of Choice will get them in the top 3. Disclaimer Alert........Just my humble opinion.

Seriously NC, does every post have to end in Machine bashing? The 99' and 00' Machine players are Bantams and Pee Wees! Kind of irrelevant. NC is most likely a 02' Blades parent. Very involved in the Brick posts. Maybe he/she should pose as a disgruntled Machine parent and really get things going. Weak.

I believe that we can agreee that players from the 01' or 02' Machine teams or the 01' or 02' Blades teams would make practically every Squirt A team in the state. Some of those squirt players would make strong Pee Wee A programs. My initial point was that Super Squirt league is made up of a lot of strong Squirt A level players and above. I would have the same opionion if it was made up of a bunch of Blades players.

I must have hit a nerve with NC when I mentioned top Squirts from associations playing in the Super Squirt league. I did not mean that the very best players from the assocations mentioned were playing in Super Squirt league. I do believe that a number of the top end players are there and "IMO" some of the best. Some of the players are playing in both.

Now NC can continue to let everyone know that his/her son is still the best 10 year old in the association. I'm sure everyone loves to get that information. I wonder what association has been hearing this already for years?? Tough one.

Spin it however you want…I’m not on here promoting my kids or anyone else’s. I simply stated the “top” kids are still at those associations. Looks like I’m the one who struck a nerve.

Observer is right, let’s get back to discussing MN Squirt A hockey.

1654 post.....

Right.....

This is only squirt A hockey. Really who can even say who is #1? Better yet only the parents care whos # 1.

I will say that Super Awsome Squirt League at MN Made could beat any team in the metro at the A level. If you disagree with this then go watch a few games and then post something on it.

The Eden Prairie tournament in a few weeks has a bunch of the top teams going at each other. They put Edina, Andover and OMG in the same pool and Rosemount along with WBL in another. EP put Rochester in their pool, so that could be a strong game as well. It should be fun to watch.

I don't understand the irrational hatred of either MM or association hockey. My son has played in both - not at the same time - and had great experiences in both. There are definitely pros and cons to either. I can’t for the life of me understand why either side is so judgmental so there is probably little chance of actually having a productive discussion about the differences. The kids are 10 or 11 – let the families and kids decide what is important to them and let them be. Neither side is committing child abuse, nor are they doing anything to harm your child.

So… it’s probably futile to try to offer an opinion from just the standpoint of competition, but I’ll give it a shot. With the exception of Rosemount and OMG – the only two top ten teams our association team has encountered so far, our regular Choice team from last year would be very, very competitive with all of the other association teams we’ve faced and certainly our own team. I've seen the regular Choice league this year and would say it is quite a bit less competitive than last year and the Super Squirts appear much more competitive. MM haters may not like to hear it, but most associations wouldn’t be able to beat the Super Squirt teams.

There is no spin about the Super squirt league. All four of the teams would beat the top association teams like OMG, Andover, Edina White, Rosemount etc. 9 out of 10 times. 5 or 6 of the top 01's around are playing in the league and about 15 of the top 30 02's around are playing in the league, so it does water down association hockey talent. Take a look at Eagan. Their top 4 players are playing just in the SS league. If they had them, they would be a top5-10 team in assocation hockey. Having watched a few games at made and in association, there is no comparison. It is night and day. Most of the kids there are just doing Made, but a couple on each team are doing both...and if you talk to those parents (parents from some top associations) every one of them will tell you that the super squirt league is far superior than the association hockey their kids are doing.

No need to knock these boys or their parents. They are doing what they feel is best. And it is worth commenting on, because it is squirt hockey. The thread title, is squirt A hockey...and those boys are playing squirt a hockey, just a different type of game.

How about these rankings?
1. MM Saints
2. MM North Stars
3. MM Wild
4. MM Moose
5. Andover
6. Rosemount
7. Edina White
8. Blaine
9. OMG
10. Stillwater

I think that may be a bit bold. Rosemount, for example, has some very good 01 players (including one top '01) and a bunch of great '02's. But I would agree the Super Squirt teams are in the top ten. Top fifteen without a doubt.

1 thru 4....I doubt it. I'm sure those 4 teams would be sprinkled in the top 10, but from what I hear from one of the parents is that a couple of the teams are far better than the other two. My guess is whatever team is the best of the 4 would be as good/better as any squirt A team and it would fall off from there.
