Just out of curiosity, is Wayzata keeping all of their graduating bantams this year? Keeping their top players? Their lack of success at the varsity level is confusing.

Excuse me, but where did I mention Wayzata anywhere in my comment?

Great coach, extremely knowledgeable, and had a State Championship on his resume as head coach of Blaine. Maybe wasn't a great player in high school, but he certainly was a great coach. I'm sure Pitlick would be a good coach, but experience doesn't necessarily translate into a good coach (ie. Housley...)
The best coaches are seldom the best players. Having played the game does not mean qualified to coach. Best coaches have seen in most cases were not good players or players at all, simply "good" coaches.
Scotty Bowman could barely skate.... and is viewed as one the best coaches ever in the NHL.
That's the point I was trying to make, with regards to the earlier comment about Lance Pitlick coming in to coach Wayzata. While he very well may be a good coach, his experience alone isn't grounds to say whether or not he is a good coach, as there are plenty of coaches who never played at a high level but had great success coaching.

I agree that some of the best coaches were below average players, but in this case former NHL defenseman, Lance Pitlick, would have been a much better choice than the current Wayzata assistant. Not even close.

1. Transfer Student
A transfer student is one who discontinues enrollment and attendance in any high school, public or non-public, located in a public school district attendance area and enrolls and attends classes in any high school in Minnesota, or outside of MN. Essentially, a transfer occurs anytime the school of record changes.

2. Residence
For purposes of eligibility, a student may only have one residence. To determine residence for eligibility purposes, the public school district attendance area in which the home last occupied by both parents is located shall be considered as the family’s residence.

3. Change of Residence
A change of residence is the actual physical relocation by the parents or guardians of a student with the intent to reside indefinitely at a new residence in Minnesota and terminate all occupancy of a previous residence. The change in residence must be bona fide, include other minor siblings and involve a transfer from one school district attendance area to another school district attendance area.

For purposes of eligibility determinations, the residence of a student shall be the bona fide location of the residence and must include occupancy by the students’ parents or guardians in the public school attendance area. Both parents, except as otherwise provided herein, must physically reside at the residence on a regular basis for the duration of the student’s enrollment.

If married, residence is determined by the bona fide residence where the student and the student’s spouse actually reside.

In determining whether a change in residence is bona fide, a member school and the League may consider, but will not be limited to:
A. New mailing address of the parents or guardians
B. Voting registration of parents or guardians that coincides with the new residence
C. Driver’s license registration that coincides with the new residence
D. Purchase or rental agreements
E. Any other reliable evidence of residency
I don't know, and am just asking, but how does the Change of Residence impact a student who transfers from one Private school to another? They don't reside in either school's attendance area since privates don't have those. So I don't understand how a change of residence allows a transfer between privates to gain immediate varsity eligibility, i.e. going from Blake to Benilde. :?:

I believe this rule was put in to make it more equitable, so as to not give the private schools an advantage.

Excellent question - the family you refer to has been masters at dodging the spirit and probably the letter of the MSHSL rules - simply chasing programs that can win a title and abandoning the ones that can't.

Private schools are assigned to the school district the private school is in. St Thomas is in 197 West St. Paul-Mendota Hts.-Eagan School District.

That is true, but irrelevant to the topic at hand, i.e. high school eligibility of kids transferring from one private to another isn't it?

St. Louis Park had a senior Defensemen from Hill-Murray last year who was 6th or 7th defensemen move in who also is a linebacker and Rogers top Bantam A player also a defenseman had his mom move into a house.

Sounds like Marshall Tema went to juniors on defense, so those kids should get a lot of ice time with Noah Fortmeyer.

Heard today that Andrew Sprang, former SSM goalie, is attending BSM this year. Can anyone confirm this, and explain why they would get him with Quale?

Can't help with your question, but in checking the rosters for all of SSM teams last season, I don't see him listed anywhere. He is however is listed on their Midget AA team from 2010-11:

Just did some research and found that he had stints with the Colorado Rampage U18 and Omaha Jr Lancers last season.

He will be fine. Trust me they all make mistakes. Better he makes them now than when he is playing at the next level, like many of them do and then they never get another chance. He will play on I guarentee it. He is NOT the 1st that this has happened to. He is a very talented goalie just needs to mature a bit. Like they say people in glass houses----

Very talented indeed and a nice kid. He made it to the HS top already and great goalies need to be challenged every season.

Does Benilde have another quality goalie to fill his shoes this season? Seems they have had several in the past, I am just not sure who the upcoming kids are @ BSM.

Yes, Wayzata is keeping most of last years bantam team. they should be pretty good in the years to come, if the kids do stick around.

There are no up and coming kids at BSM. They're probably trying to bring in Sprang because other transfers would be stuck on JV for a season. Ah, the problems of being a private are especially illuminated at the goaltending position.

Is that 1 kid or 2 or 3 ? please add some commas, newlines or something so we can figure it out :)

Problems? There's no problem getting forwards in school and eligible their first year. How is he goalie position any worse? Are there no SLP apartments large enough to store the goalie gear?

not really your typical transfer but a player from edina played JV when he was a soph and as a junior he was cut decided not to play Junior gold and instead was the varsity manager for Edina and now going to be a senior has talked to the Duluth East coach and apparently was told if he moves up there he can play for them and i have been told thats what he has done by many people around Edina

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the A bantam goalies from St.Louis park and Rosemont (not sure on names, but its not Klaers from SLP) attend BSM, also Will Jarvis lead their conference in JV save percentage. I think they will be fine especially if they bring in Sprang.

Just a note, but coaches cannot promise players playing time like that, so I do not think it happened as so.
He could just transfer and play, but a coach telling him to come and play. That is called recruiting.

well according to the player's friends that is what he was promised, i do not know if its true or not but that is what i heard, and im sure there has been some recruiting in this league before, it would not surprise me if that was the case
