IMHO, BSM does not now, nor will they later have a chance to get by Minnetonka or Eden Prairie come sections...I'm just sayin.
Agreed. And if Maple Grove were in that section, they also would not get past those clubs. I was not impressed by either team.
Besides East, no other team would get past Tonka or EP.
I think it's way too premature to count out BSM in Section 6. It's high school hockey and quality teams will be different than they are now and playoff time. Although BSM will need better goaltending and much more responsible play without the puck to beat the top teams in that section.

This is crazy talk. to say Maple Grove would not get passed Tonka or Eden Prairie is insane.
Common opponents so far.
Tonka beats Centennial 2-1. Maple Grove beats Centennial 4-2
Eden Prairie beats Andover 2-1 and loses to Edina 4-1. Maple Grove beats Andover 5-4 and beats Edina 3-0.
not sure where you get your thinking from but to say they would not get passed either team is just plain stupid. I happen to think they would fair pretty good againts either team and they would both be great games that could go either way. everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I think MG is in that handful group of elite teams who could win it all this season, in my opinion. This year there are definitely a fair share, who in a one game type deal could beat anyone. I also think this is thear MG gets to state, and I think they could do some damage from the couple games I've seen them play this season.

Typical answer from Lee.
As soon as someone challenges DE strength of schedule or does not say something great about them (which there is plenty of) you get nothing but sarcasm. But there definitely was some DE supporters that had plenty of negative things to say about both MG vs BSM after the game. But I guess that's ok huh Lee???
It's a shame not everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
mnmouth: I appreciate your response and do respect that you’re willing to back up what you say. Guess will be seeing you in DE soon.

Boy, did you miss my point. Let me make it easy. Pick one of your two usernames and stick with it. Going into a thread to agree with yourself is slightly dishonest. So let me know which name you want to keep and I'll deactivate the other one.
It's not about having an opinion. It's about creating another name in a pathetic attempt to improve credibility.
Make sense now?

Back to the OP, I thought BSM played with heart but no discipline, and it was especially glaring with the persistent breakdown of defense, but also the scrums at the end of the game. Yeah, it was an emotional game (obnoxious MG students made sure of that, but that's HS hockey for you. Were BSM students all away celebrating Advent, or what?) But emotions without discipline are a huge disadvantage, and they also prevent you from making SIMPLE and QUICK adjustments -- like, say, NOT PINCHING BOTH DEFENSE ALL THE TIME. I think this was a huge coaching mistake -- the stubborness to not reel in the offense long enough to fix the defense.
Heck, I think they should take one of their D1 all-star forwards (you got three or four to choose from) and put 'em on defense. Otherwise, I agree with others. I don't like BSM's chances for post-season in their section.
I really like MG's chances at state. They'll bury Blaine when they get the chance in February/March. And depending on who else makes it to the X, they should get a seed to boot.

The fact is that BSM just played a very good MG team in a very even game in December. Shots were even, scoring chances were even. Both teams controlled the game in stretches.
Let's assume that the goal with 9 seconds left had counted. This thread would be all about BSM's heart and how they reacted so much better than when they were down 2 against BV. But the goal did not count, so this thread is about "what's wrong with BSM". Put another way, what would DE and HM have thought of their seasons last year if a few OT section games had come out differently.
In the end, they win 5-4. It would be heartbreaking to end the season that way, but the season is far from over. If all goes very well, we could see Maple Grove next week and maybe even again in March.

bsmguy, well put and I agree.
If there is a rematch they should be better prepared defensively. I'm sure the coaches are working with them to cut down on the odd-man rushes and eliminate the breakaways where they allow the opponent forward to slip beyond the D. If they're able to make those two simple adjustments they win the game.

Right-o, and the reason I'm opining about this game is because both teams deserve their ranking, and BSM showed what could be a fatal flaw (defense, stubbon coaching, undisciplined emotion) where otherwise they had more offensive firepower. They lost this game because of defensive breakdowns and stellar individual performance by MG forwards taking advantage of same.
