Anoka triumphs over Minnetonka 3-1

Thanks, Bandy and Av8rx, for posting the Anoka-Minnetonka score. HUGE upset when No. 1 goes down to No. 11 :!:

Three of our sixteen prognosticators did pick Anoka to win. They are Otter, ayhfan and capitalpride. Coupled with picking last night's score and this upset prediction, Otter takes the early lead with 3 points. capitalpride nearly pulled into a tie, having just missed getting the score today (2-1 instead of 3-1). I wonder if Anoka's third goal was an empty netter?

With four games on tap Tuesday will offer the rest of us a chance to catch up. Until then we have:

1. Otter - 3 points
2. ayhfan - 2
capitalpride - 2
DmanDad1980 - 2
5. twelve tied with 1

Fan,

Heard all 3 goals were back door goals off rebounds. Seems the Anoka girls go hard to the net.

This Anoka squad is a very nice group of hockey players. Knight is right on, this group will not back down, will go hard into the corner and to the front of the net. Combined with that, they have some highly skilled players with the puck, and good defense/goalie... Watch this club this year, they are a nice group of kids!
The younger kids were part of a 12UA State team that loss in Championship a couple years ago I believe...

Prediction: a month from now nobody views this as an upset.

Coming from the person who's leading our Week 1 contest, we take your prediction seriously! We'll check back in a month to see how both of these teams are doing!

P.S. Have to say, though, that the Skippers appear to have a much more challenging first half schedule, so it may be difficult to compare the relative strength of the two teams. But that's where KRACH and QRF come in...

Coming from a person who joined Nov.4 (tryout cut day)and makes comments like that, I think it is a disgrutled hockey parent. We shall see,.

Sir, I am not now nor have I ever been disgrutled. Let me guess, you're one of those people who think the worst about everyone. Well, I just think that Anoka is better than Minnetonka, and that will be clear in a couple more weeks. That's it--no disgrutlement. I'm perfectly grutled.

Fair enough, just looked a little suspicious with the dates and all.
Thought you were bashing Minnetonka more than hyping Anoka. Ill say this Anoka has a very nice team and a very good goalie. I think they are going to do very well this year. I appologize for the typing error on "grutled"should have been gruntled.

I read it as the person saying, that Anoka is a much better team than most would think! and I agree they are a good team! Good luck to all the teams this year! Play hard and above all Have fun!

Lets be careful saying that Anoka is a much better hockey team than Tonka. For any of you that were there, like I was, with an unbiased view. I am sure you would agree that overall Tonka probably was a little better, shots 34-19 would indicate that. Tonka's powerplay moved the puck well, and they looked great in the neutral zone with their passing. However, I am sure their heads were a little big coming off the state tourney.

However, when all said and done it was Anoka's day that day. They came to play and they got the win. Thats all that matters. I am sure Minnetonka will get their ship going in the right direction with 4 D1 defensman and a D1 goaltender. Morin and Baldwin might be two of the best in the state at their ages, and apparently the same goes with Crowe.

And no I am not a Tonka fan, just a hockey fan.

This game would be like saying Blaine and Edina are even cause they tied 3-3, even though shots were 50-20 in favor of Edina. That shows to me that Edina is probably the overall better team, but ran into a good goalie in Blaine.

The other thing this shows is the parity in girls hockey. It would not surprise me to see Anoka or Blaine lose to each other, Elk River, maybe even a Centennial or Andover.

Looks like a good season in the works!

Scores for 3 out of our 4 games tonight are now in:

Benilde-St. Margaret's 7, White Bear Lake 3
Breck 5, Hill-Murray 2
South St. Paul 9, Red Wing 3

Nobody got any of these scores correct.

The Edina/Eastview game has not yet been posted. When it is I will update our point totals for the first 6 games.

Edina 9-1 over Eastview

The score for the Edina/Eastview game has now been posted and it was no contest. It appears that their opening tie against Blaine really woke them up as tonight they whipped Eastview 9-1. Shots on goal were 56-17. A couple of our prognosticators came close at 7-1, but once again nobody predicted the final score.

No games on tap on Wednesday, but heading into our three games on Thursday the leaderboard looks like this:

1. MNHockeyFan - 5 points (oh yeah!)
....Otter - 5
....ayhfan - 5
....woogieboogiewoogie - 5
....hockeygroupie - 5
....capitalpride - 5
7. hockeyfan87 - 4
....blueblood - 4
....Antagonist - 4
....hckynut12 - 4
....DmanDad1980 - 4
12. Four tied at 3
16. One with 2

Someone needs to get lucky - a couple of correct scores will likely determine this week's winner.

Anoka outplayed Tonka in all 3 periods, outshooting them in each period, challenging all Tonka shots and anyone with the puck, and crashing the net hard. Yes, all 3 were rebound goals. Anoka will do well with that kind of effort and determination. Let's also see what kind of wakeup call this is to Tonka.

I will be out of town for a long weekend starting tomorrow (Thursday) around noon. In my absence Silent But Deadly has graciously agreed to update the results for the rest of the games and post them here. If he does things correctly I fully expect to claim the Grand Prize upon my return late Sunday night.

P.S. Watch for a new "Big Games Week 2" thread to be added to the Forum later today. As always, we welcome and encourage any and all Forum readers to participate.

I suspect MnHockeyFan wins all tie-breakers but I'll let him decide who gets the bragging rights!!!

Otter & capitalpride both picked the correct score for the Warroad vs. NWC game....which I watched....an empty netter got each of them their extra point!!!!
