I think WBL will have to take a similar approach as Roseville did in the Hill game friday. The 1st and 2nd period, it was clear that the Raiders were going to take no chances with pinching defensemen, and making sure to keep at least one forward high on the offensive zone to protect against odd man rushes the other way. Roseville played that gameplan great, and had to take some chances in the 3rd, resulting in Hill putting them away. As BodyShots mentioned, Jansen will have to be better for the Bears. The 1st line is superior for the Bears, but everything else goes to Hill. Good luck to the Bears! Schletty gonna have to stand on his head

Jeez iLLuminati_666, you don't hide your dislike for Hill Murray very well! I've been reading this forum for about a year, and I love the spirited discussions that take place. But its obvious you don't like HM, and almost every one of your posts prove it.
Just days ago you created a topic discussing Roseville's chances for beating HM, giving them a good chance because of great goaltending and playing the good teams (Burnsville, Lakeville South, Wayzata) tough. Now Hill barely scraped by an 'average' Roseville team. Come on! I love the discussions and respect that you obviously love either WBL or Stillwater, but then just come out and say it!

Did you see what I just did? I'm typing my message AFTER the quote.
Anyways, we all know LIL Nutty hates the Private, East Metro, currently #1 Ranked, 3 time State champion Hill-Murray Pioneers. It's obvious; it isn't like you're outing him. He's already out of the closet.
*GETTING BACK TO THE GAME*
WB has a great offensive line; there is not doubt about that. But they are going to need them to step it up tomorrow for the big show. WB's team defense and tending needs to be sharp as well. WB must play their BEST game of the season versus HM. I expect nothing less.
HM has a dominated this series versus WB for the past 6 years and this section for the past 5. In all honesty, I don't see this trend ending Friday night at the Barn. They've got the speed, the physical aspects, the offense, defense, and goaltending to win and make a push deep into State. But they have to execute and win first.
I am apathetic when it comes to what team represents 4AA this year. In all honesty, seeing HM at the X is nice, they deserve it; however, seeing WB would be a great turn of events and a nice change. Getting that 6 straight years of losing to HM would be awesome and perfectly timed! Maybe they'll win a quarter final game at State?!
HM 4, WBL 2
No empty netter.

Break the streak...or is it a curse I'm not sure anymore.

I second this! GOOOO Bears!
Will this game be available online anywhere?
thanks

Does anyone remember the H-M v Tonka state game last year that went into OT?
That was a Tonka team that had superior talent.
Am I and PPG the only ones who KNOW that Lex and staff are such great X's and O's coaches that they will neutralize the BIG 3 like he was able to handle Tonka, yet not sacrifice the offense? Sager is not capable creating a solid game plan against good teams. His record against the good programs outside of conference plays is about .250.
WBL will keep it close for 2 periods, but H-M will prevail.

No Goldfishdude you are not the only one who knows Lex is the best. And believe me I'm with ya brother on your Sager dislike but we all are just praying Sager for once gets his head in the sunshine for a change and actually X's and O's a game plan to bet Hill.

I am not a Bears fan nor a North Metro All Star fan but I will say that I am cheering for WB because of my disapproval of Lechtner. The guy has no class what ever. GO BEARS!

Interesting.

The StarTribune/Hockey Hub series and the Pioneer Press say different about Bill Lechner. As a matter of fact, they say the complete opposite. I'm going with Bob Sansevere of the Pioneer Press and David La Vaque of the Star Tribune for my opinion of Bill Lechner over some guy who calls himself headinjury.

Hill by at least 3. They are a better hockey team than White Bear.

Sorry got some, I will not post an analysis of the all-time HM vs. WBL records and a list of the dates & scores of the 14 game win streak. This is the new, softer stpaul. Besides there is no point to it anymore. It would be just piling on. I almost miss when WBL would occasionally beat HM. It was a real, live rivalry. I did say almost and hope that the eventual WBL victory waits until next year, or later.
I did stay at the Coliseum last night for the WBL-Stillwater game. I do have a new appreciation for WBL hockey. WBL is not Stillwater. The Ponies had screaming coaches, little ability to complete a pass, and a game plan designed around late hits and hacking. The Bears play pretty good hockey. Stillwater's Cates certainly kept them in the game.
I am looking forward to tomorrow night. Other than last year, these have been very close, well played & hard fought games. I expect the same tomorrow night. Also looking forward to Bill Lechner’s Charlie Brown sweater. He has no choice but to keep wearing it.

Its seemed to be between these 2 teams to go to state for several years now, its definitely the best rivalry in the state IMO.

Yes everyone might be shocked but i agree with st paul. history obviously goes to hill. But the first game this season was a very good game. I would expect nothing more then a tie or 1 goal diffrence going into the 3rd... If the bears stay out of the box they get the W if not hill takes it...

WBL returning to the state tournament would be every bit as inspiring and exciting as a return by the Austin Packers.

although WBL will have to play a trap game to stifle HM, HM should be able to beat this because they themselves play very good trap hockey and I assume know how to break it. Im expecting HM to come out firing on all cylinders Friday after what I hear was an uninspiring semi final game. Cant wait to see Charlie Brown there.
HM-4 WBL-1, subdued celebration again, maybe not even throwing the gear off. We have a bigger goal to accomplish

Unfortunately, Buzzie... It won't be by the mercy of Sager's coaching for WBL to get by H-M.. It will be the "will to win" by Wahlin, Birki and Jansen. For the sake of the Bears, I hope he does come up with a way to attack and aggressively forecheck with the forwards and keep the defense from pinching too much too deep. They can't afford the odd-man rushes.

White Bear beat Roseville in the 2001 section finals. Hill was beat by Roseville in the semi's (Hill finished under .500 for the season).

Obviously someone is new to High School Hockey. The most impressive part to the HM vs WBL rivalry is that since 1975 (the year that Hill-Murray was allowed to play in the MSHSL) Either Hill-Murray or WBL have gone to the state tourney from section 3/4 every year except for 3 (1981 - North St. Paul, 1982 - WB Mariner and 2004 - Centennial). For you math majors that is 34 (35 if you include Mariner) out of the last 37 state tourneys! I know most of the old vets of this site are well aware of this but I just thought I'd educate our young bucks...
That being said, I wish I was able to make it back home for Friday nights game; I'll be listening on MSBN which is an out of staters favorite friend come section tourney time.

Nope, not new to high school hockey. I figured going back to the beginning of this millennium was enough. I was too lazy to go back any further. I am painfully aware from personal experience how good both White Bear and Hill were back in the mid 70s. I still have nightmares and am trying to block these painful memories of extreme butt-kickings. I am still looking for a good therapist.
