Next year Little Falls is changing conferences, we will see if they will even play Brainerd next year. Has been a great rival game for many years, can't imagine not playing Brainerd every year.

I think your right, but I am not sure. I am sure someone knows.dueling21 wrote:Granite Ridge, right?GopherPuckPlayer wrote:Next year Little Falls is changing conferences, we will see if they will even play Brainerd next year. that sophmore class put together a few state trips in the pee wee and bantam leveldueling21 wrote:What I'm most interested in is how fast Little Falls reloaded following the loss of the Hanowski and Festler boys. One losing year, then they're off and running again. Wouldn't be surprised in the least to see the Flyers back at state this year...and good for the Flyers and coach Tony Couture.
Kinda doubt it.Celihockey88 wrote:Yeah to bad brainerd is to scared to play LF i heard LF wants but brainerd told them lets take a break next year....... A break sounds like they are worried about getting beat again
Rough/physical is one thing, cheap is another.DanglinDMan27 wrote:This game was definitely a grind but I don't know why people were shocked by the roughness with this game being in brainerd. And it's a big rivalry for both teams
LF was physical, Brd was cheap.DanglinDMan27 wrote:Mite-dad wrote:Rough/physical is one thing, cheap is another.DanglinDMan27 wrote:This game was definitely a grind but I don't know why people were shocked by the roughness with this game being in brainerd. And it's a big rivalry for both teams
I understand that but it was going big ways
Your goalie was half way to the blue line in a race for the puck. Had it been LF's goalie, I'm sure the outcome would have been similar.Skip_per wrote:Well I have stayed quiet long enough.
I first and foremost want to tip my hat to Little Falls for a great game and to their win. They were the better team that night.
Now to the others in this forum, I sat center ice above the penalty box area. I had a great view of the game. I saw an aggressive physical hockey game; Brainerd was challenged at every turn. I believe that it was probably one of the better games that we have been in this year. Both teams were very tough and physical during the majority of the game. Some kids were injured; some of those same kids had prior injuries. That happens in some games. Part of the game? I know we have lost more than one kid this year, one out for the season. Others sat a game or two, now are back playing. Others have chosen to play through it. I have not seen Brainerd complain.
Yes there were some hits \ plays both ways that did not garner a penalty. I believe that I saw one play that certainly was not okay. Running the goalie! Not okay. No penalty! Mmmmmmm
I have been part of the Brainerd Team officially for the past 3 years as the statistician. I have not missed any games. Brainerd has been very sportsmanlike. Have there been individuals who have lost their cool Yes. But I have not seen anything that warrants any of the comments I have seen in this forum. Especially that we need to get rid of our Coach.
I am wondering how many of the members here that have shared are willing to bring it to Jim Archibald in person. I am sure he would be happy to have a discussion with you. But your bashing him here is certainly unsportsmanlike, inappropriate and not called for. It was a Hockey game and a good one.
Again congrats to the Flyers on your win.
Last I heard CLC was most certainly in existance next year. Whe else would the MSHSL put Grand Rapids in the CLC for football??? When was the hear/say that CLC was going to close up shop??mn-hockey wrote:No, actually I heard that the Central Lakes Conference is not going to even be here next year, intresting. Which, I think if Brainerd would play Little Falls again. Little falls would handle them pretty well, with only two players coming off the varsity roster. Look for Little Falls to be a good team this year and a few years to come.

Would you agree a picture is worth thousand words? Check out this pic from the Braienrd Dispatch. No call, but sure looks like an elbow to a Flyer player's face hard enough to lift him off the ice...........Skip_per wrote:Well I have stayed quiet long enough.

Good point. But what do you do about an atmosphere where a hit that crumples an opponent to the ice is celebrated more than a goal that ties the score in a tight game among rivals? What do you do when Little Falls school officials have to step in and control Brainerd fans seeking to fight Flyer fans? (HS kids)(no home school officials visible in the arena). Seems like a culture has developed emphasizing brutality and physically punishing ones opponent rather than using a check to separate an opponent from the puck so that you or your team can then possess it.observer wrote:Sounds like some poor reffing. A hit to the head is a penalty. The refs need to take control of these games so they can be played correctly. Reduce the number of injuries, and concussions, by making the calls. The ref should speak with each team for one minute before the game and explain the way they're going to call things so there's no surprise. And then they need to make the calls early.
The high school kids that attend games actually know very little about the game and how it's supposed to be played. They do scream and yell at the big hits and the players can hear them. All the more reason for the refs to get the calls right and for coaches to instruct their players to play the game correctly. But what do you do about an atmosphere where a hit that crumples an opponent to the ice is celebrated more than a goal that ties the score in a tight game among rivals?
