Maybe 800 spectators in a cavernous building means there is almost no atmosphere. It's spread out over four days and three venues. The third place game is in the evening on New Years Eve? It's at the X, unless they can find another event that can sell over 1,000 tickets.

What's needed is a facility that is appropriately sized and WANTS to host it.
Then a guy could get a Coke for less than $5, too.

Mariucci may prove to be small enough to feel like you're at an event, but I don't think the U is interested in or able to turn their building over for three days during that week every year.
Move it to Aldrich Arena

Should be at Ridder, better ice sheet and better atmosphere. They may actually fill the place up.

Aldridge would be cool.

i have to agree, Ridder Arena would be an ideal place to have it. I don't know how much it actually seats but I have been there and can tell you it is definately ideal. There will be some gold games that will have some great attendance and give the game that more intense feeling to it

Off hand , I'd say capacity at Aldrich is comparable to Ridder, but Aldrich has plenty of free parking. All Gold Div. games could be at one venue then.

About '92 or so, I think for two years, Hill and I think Johnson sponsored the Eastside Showdown. Six teams, four days, two three-team round robin pools with first place in one pool meeting first place from the other pool, etc. I don't think it sold out but it was nice and full, a great atmosphere.

The Gold Division is at Mariucci this year. The only games at the X are the finals of the 4 divisions this year it looks like.

I agree on the venue though; in some past years the caliber of teams have been as good as (or maybe better than) state and the place is empty. Selling out a smaller venue would be much more exciting.
The schedule I have shows the first day at Mariucci, then the winners bracket at the X for the last 2 days in the gold division.

my picks:
Gold: edina over sta
silver: burnsville over CDH
bronze: champlin over orono
open:providence over marshall
I dont think that CDH has any potential right now.

Pretty sure myfoxhockey.com is doing the Gold Division's winner's bracket. And maybe the day of the finals.

Next step, get what's on your computer on your tv...that's my project when I get home from visiting family.
