Whichever school Jake Wahlin does end up at (Woodbury or Hill-Murray), at least he'll have a better coach than he would at White Bear with Sager.

so, what do senior hockey players (17 - 18 year olds) do if they get cut from their HS teams nowadays?

way back in the day, i skated onto a junior b team and had a decent time. can they make the cut for junior gold or are they too old?

or does pride get the best of them and they hang it up for awhile?

Junior Gold is the main option. It is not goon hockey like many remember from years ago. Lots of good players and good coaches. Big programs (Edina, Wayzata, etc) could beat many (possibly most) lower level high school varsity teams.

Woodbury doesn't have Jr gold A though and that's a moderate jump in skill for that level. The distinction should be made that it's only the A teams of Wayzata and Edina (along with a few more) that could beat those lower varsity teams.

Edina's Junior Gold A had more skill and talent than most of the metro east Varsity's I watched last year. They rolled 3 lines that would be starting lines for half the Metro East Varsity's.

People have no clue, as long as their kid makes the big Varsity team, that's why you'll never see them play Junior Gold A teams because they don't want their bubble broken.

Those kids play 40 regular season games and are pretty hard by the spring. Many of these kids play baseball, football and do not go to year around skills camps like the over trained varsity players do. So in Jan/Feb when the Varsity kids are hitting the wall because of too much of the same thing, Junior Gold players are hitting their peak.

Yes, I would say the top 10 Junior Gold A teams would fit right into Varsity without a problem and win at least half their games.

As hard as that is for too many clowns to accept.
