12th graders = 5
11th graders = 8
10th graders = 5
9th graders = 4
8th graders = 3

The seven 8th and 9th graders wouldn't have been enough for a 14U team anyways. Considering the goal is 30 new mite girls a year they've failed at the recruiting game.

wayzata is to be very strong this year, as no ninth graders were taken on varsity or jv. that leaves the majority of their team from last year as returners on their team this year.

Wayzata looks good, but I'm interested to see how they compare with Edina, EP, CentRed, and Mtka.

But they have a top 12UA Program who could jump right to high school nicely.

Top 5 14UA teams playing at Cake Eater's. Of course, it's still early, but will be interesting to see who survives and who thrives. Of course, #2 - #5 are in the bracket opposite #1 Edina (funny how that always seems to happen with random pool assignments). Thunder Bay is in the same bracket with Edina, however, and they're usually strong, depending which TB team it is.

Just in case you were wondering, its the TB team that is ranked #2 in Canada...do you really think Edina likes to duck good competition?

FYI; it is not the Thunder Bay Queens that is playing this weekend in Edina.
The Queens were here last weekend and took home the Championship at the All American Girls Tournament up in Blaine. Don't know the name of the Thunder Bay team that is coming.

My fault Epic and I didn't realize LPH rankings were the gospel. I assume you have watched everyone of these teams play and know for a fact all the team on the one side of the bracket are aweful.

Edina appears to have played the lesser of the two TB teams and beat them 4-2 earlier today. The TB AA team won the AAG American Division tournament in Blaine last week and the TB A team is here this week at the Cake Eater's. I'm not Canadian and Canada could very well do it differently, but I'm going to guess that the AA team is their top team and the A team is their second team. Of couse, maybe Edina Green really is that good . . .

Yes Sinbin, same coincidene that the Edina U12's ended up with Wayzata #1 and OMG #4 in their bracket. Funny how some people seem to always complain no matter what. Oh well!!!

Rinkrat, you know I'm not complaining, of course, but I appreciate the kudos. Just find it interesting, though not surprising. I believe the Edina 12's are not ranked #1 as are the 14's (I think they're about to fall out of the top 10), so completely different scenario between the two brackets. Knowing that the 12's have no chance, you may as well play the best and gain some experience, even if it's hard-knock experience. The 14's have a (forgive the pun) cake-walk to the finals.
If it was up to me, I'd prefer to play the stronger teams earlier in the season, take a few lumps, and learn what we have to work on. One more tournament trophy doesn't mean that much, even if it is the prestigious Cake Eaters Classic, with all due respect. And, if your team earns that trophy by beating the best teams, that's when you can look in the mirror and say that "I beat the best."
I know it's a pipe dream, but tournaments could be seeded with just a little bit of effort. The seedings wouldn't be exact and it would go against years of tradition of favoring the homers (almost all tournaments do this, not just Edina), but it would make for much better hockey and I believe it would help the development of all teams and their players. Yes, hockey should be fun, and it's fun to win a tournament or two along the way. I sincerely hope every single kid gets to win a tournament sometime in their youth career, but if the goal of youth hockey is development, why not do something that's easy and help contribute to that goal?

Why would the Edina 12's fall out of the top 10? I see they tied #1 Wayzata twice, and they went undefeated this weekend. If they're dropping out of the top ten, feel free to drop Minnetonka, Stillwater, OMG, and Centennial.

In truth, the top teams in U12 are all REAL close.

Must not have been paying close enough attention, I thought Edina started near the top and now have sunk to #7. It's still early and results will change, of course. I was talking up Edina on other posts, because they always have the numbers to field a quality A team, but got beaten down for it by other posters. I suppose the truth is somewhere in the middle.
