Wow....

In a few years, it will be really interesting to see if all this summer hockey increases the quality of play at the High School level and creates more opportunities for Minnesota kids post-high school. . . . in the meantime . . . it is pretty cool (my opinion) to see so many kids get the chance to play summer hockey!
I agree. For all the talk of "watered down" AAA it is good to see more get the opportunity to play higher level summer hockey even if its not AAA/Tier I caliber of play. The AAA label has become a marketing tool and yes there are some who think they are AAA/Tier I caliber when they really are not but the vast majority know they are not AAA/Teir I caliber but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to play in the summer. No harm no foul in my opinion ... its not like these teams are demanding to be included in the most prestigious tournaments because they play AAA hockey in Minnesota. At least I hope they are not.
Somewhere there has to be a place for bubble teams working to get to the higher level.

I agree .. There are over 500 kids playing in the top 50% of the 97's.
The red bull, the East Metro Danglers, the Easton teams, The Bauer Teams are all on the open/invite bubble..
They are not tier 1 by a long shot!! Forget the AAA .. Let's just call them kids having hockey fun in the summer!!

....and the Midwest Ice Hogs. Undefeated on the year, winning all of their tourneys, beating the Manitoba Moose for Championship in the Pepsi Cup.
The summer hockey opportunities for MN youth is fantastic, even though it might be getting watered down. I think in 2 years and beyond, MN will be sending more players to D1 etc.

I would guess blades, icemen, and machine would be favorites at the 98 level. [going way out on a limb]

Who put this thing together[person or people, not "ICEMEN"] Why such a lg group of teams? Is it just the timing of the event, or is every one just ready for some new tournaments. [ warrior cup seems to be getting bigger, and better every year as well] Could end up with some great match-ups should be fun.
