you are right. 3rd line that goes out and competes and if they score its a plus. This isn't college hockey or pros where the depth is much stronger. At those levels you see the 3rd line out against the 1st line it isn't a disaster. In high school hockey you get a 3rd line out against a 1st line you seldom see the 3rd line get many chances. Looking at stats Edina has 13 players in double digit points and Jefferson has 12. Edina's leading scorer would be 5th on the Jefferson team. But who cares about that this is playoff hockey. Regular season is over. It will come down to goaltending and Edina goalies have been more consistant. One game to state.

When I said they go 7 deep, that means they are 3 short of having 2 solid lines.

It is just my opinion..How has their track record been through their youth years? Any success?

It doesn't matter about youth years. If it did, then Chaska would be dominating (obviously they lost players, and so has Jefferson - as well as gaining key players). That's a whole other subject.

Gitter, I agree with a lot of what you say. Jefferson's weakness is goaltending without a doubt. However, if the Jags generate as many scoring opportunities as they did against Burnsville, they have a good shot at winning. Ingum (SP?) played outstanding against Jefferson and in the last stretch of the season, and I'd say he is better than Edina's Girard.

dont know dont care. This is high school now. I think their top 2 lines are good (all of them have 20+ points). So i would say thats pretty deep. 3rd liners have 14+.

Ya, I heard Edina is just going to play their Junior Gold B team to give their studs some rest for the state championship.

ha it must have been their junior gold team playing minnetonka in the 1st period and then they brought the varsity out in the 2nd and 3rd.

Edina may not be as Dominant as they were last year but I still think they're the class of this section.

Hornets 5
Jaguars 2

I have not watched Edina this year but looking at their schedule they must be solid once again this year...

The games either going to go two ways:

1. Jefferson takes the thoughts from their terrible game last year and uses it to sneak out a win...

2. Edina will come out strong and score early to rattle the jaguars and win by a couple

Factors for Jefferson: Goaltending, Penalty Kill, Finishing

Faust, Pauluk (SP), Hebert will have to lead them to victory...

agree those players are the keystone to jefferson hockey team. 3 top end players. I think this game has a lot of question marks to it. Jefferson with their competitive and dominating performances at times this year but ending the year a bit slow. Edina losing some close games but showing they have what it takes the last 2 periods against minnetonka. This will come down to jeffersons goaltending. The team can help with this by playing sound defense like they did against wayzeta earlier in the year.

I like the three keys to the game, MNSportsRube. I would add "don't take stupid penalties" in parentheses after PK, therefore they won't have to kill any off. Jefferson cannot put any more pressure on their goalie than there already is and penalties will do this.

Head to head grading:
Firepower: Jefferson by a long shot. On paper, they have one of the scariest teams in the state. 7 guys were over 20 points in the regular season, and 9 if you count playoffs. Edina has only 4 even through playoffs, with their highest point holder having 34 compared to Jefferson's top point holder who has 61.

Defense:
Jefferson, but not because of their depth. I don't know much about Edina's defense but what I do know is this: Jefferson has Faust and Pauluk. They are the two of the most impressive players in the state and will hold it down for the Jags. Not only are they good defensively, but they both have 40+ points on the season.

Goaltending: Edina has the advantage over Jefferson in this category without a doubt. Both Girard and Ackney have GAA of 1.9 compared to Jefferson's goalies who have 2.2. The SV% is also in favor of the Hornet's. This is going to be one of the big keys to the game, as mentioned before.

Experience: Tie. Yes, Edina did beat the Jags last year in the section finals and know what it takes, but the Jags also have 9 returning players who were played in that game as well. Also, even though people often times say the Jags didn't have a big win this year until last game against Burnsville, I'd have to disagree. Although it's fairly obvious to me that Edina played in more big games than Jefferson, I don't think it's fair to say the Jags didn't play in any. They beat up Centennial, Wayzata, Moorhead twice (who is in their respective section final game), AV (playing in their section final game), Eagan, Maple Grove, and then of course Burnsville. Edina had impressive wins, but I'd say Jefferson did as well.

agree with everything espn said in his comparison. Can Jefferson Dynamic players and 2 impressive D men take on the sound confident unknown Edina players. I say that respectfully as this Edina team although on paper looks average from a point total has put up a very good record against possibly the toughest schedule in state. They play good team game and capitalize on your mistakes. I can't see them winning this game by a few. 3-2, 2-1 win margin. Jefferson on the other hand could win this game 4-1, 5-2. But what Jefferson team will show up. The one against Wazeta, Centenial, Burnsville(sections) or the one against EP, Lakeville north. What Edina team will show up the one against Blaine, Minnitonka(2nd,3rd period) or the one against wazeta, Minnitonka(1st period). We will only know come WEds 8pm.

Unlike last year, I don't think Jefferson will lay down. I look for Jefferson to rise up and give Edina a very good game at Target Center. Two pretty even teams, I give a slight edge to Edina's goalie,

If Edina shows up, regardless of what Jefferson does, Edina will win

I feel like this is true when a team has more talent. And Edina clearly does not. I think that if both teams have their best game, Jefferson's best is better. Let's face it, Herbert's best game is a little better than Taft's.

I'd say that Herbert is in a completely different league than Taft. Herbert's best game blows Taft's away.
