Faribault and Winona appear to be ready to take a run at the top tier of the conference. At least one of the Rochester schools will be in the mix, probably Century. The next tier will include Albert Lea (down some from this season) and Owatonna, maybe Mayo. The next group will all be pretty close with West, Jm, and East all pretty close. Austin appears to be set for a long season again. East returns all their top forwards except 1. The young goalies gained a year of experience, especially the freshman. They will pickup a forward who was out with injury, so their net loss is 2 starters. If they can find a group of defensemen that can work together they should be much better.

Mayo will be in the lower third, No goalie and they lose all their forwards except one who had one goal. You rebuild with Bantams, they get none
from the Bantam A Red. They will beat Austin, but after that I don't know.

Now I know that there is a big jump from JV to varsity but Mayo had one of the best JV teams in the conference. (I guess you have to look at who they played too). I think though if the young guys can step up Mayo might not be the "bottom scraper" people are counting on

Next years Mayo team will struggle throughout the year. They return both jv goalies and get one of the goalies from the bantam a black team. The first line will probably be Heroff, O'reilly and Sikkema (sp?). From watching a few of the games this year Sikkema has the most experience out of the three. Second line would probably be Mcgloughlin (sp?) Lee and Smolders possibly. The only D I remember seeing that will be around is Powers and Truex. So overall, I think Mayo will finish in the bottom half and maybe a 6 or 7 seed in the section playoffs. Anything better than that I feel will be a good accomplishment for the team after losing so many players this year.

Mayo's jv may have had a good year, but you have to look at the teams with freshman, sophmores and juniors that play varsity. Don't quote me on this but I believe Mayo's top line and a half were juniors and those are the kids that are going to be leading the team next year. I just don't see those guys being capable enough to lead the team to an above .500 record.

Elde can have his games. If he's on his game, he plays good hockey. If one gets by him and it gets in his head, he might as well be back in Bantams. I would think Heroff at best would be second line. He's slow and he's got rocks for hands. Hes got a shot and thats about it. I can see Lee being first line. Im not even sure who the other d r on JV. I just no Ishitani. Hes gotten a lot better over the last few years but he still needs to mature to be ready for the Varsity level

I think Winona will be a force to be reckoned with, with their almost full roster of sr.'s a key junior sitting out this year a solid tender coming back and 2 of the top 8 scorers in the big 9. I will be hard pressed to find a better team at the moment on paper. Anything can happen though and talking to some faribault kids they should have a solid team too.

Century got lucky in that OT win!

cant really start looking this far in advance. We will know who the best teams are in about 8 months. Lets just enjoy the biggest high school tournament in the nation right now.

Mayo Wont be good at all next year....There Jrs have not enough expirance.....They will be middle of the pack big 9.......But JM looks like they will bring a lot back and maybe that will bring them back to the top of the conference.....Of Corse Century will be there......

Mankato East and AL will be strong and Century will find a way to win. MW and Austin won't be able to beat a B Bantam team.

The rest I'm not sure on.
Mankato East?? They have one or two decent players. No goaltending at all on thier roster. Are you sure about that?
east will have 14 seniors next year all of whom have varsity experience. Also they have two goalies that played all of this past season.

i find it hard to believe that east will even be decent. but the conference will be way below usual along with section 1A/AA

Century is bringing back sellnow who is not that impressive but they may have a contender from Kautz out of Bantam A in the goaltender position from watching the two i would say Kautz might have the upper hand but you never know sellnow could be the favorite from experience. Century is getting 6 or 7 players from bantam A but i dont expect them to become big threats at the varsity level just yet..of course they will lave little drew anderson with corey kautz and martini back and the rest are sort of inexperienced forwards that hopefully will be able to contend. On D they will have Nick Raeschler? returning who wasnt too bad probably their better defenseman. I look fo them to probably finish top 3 big nine be a contender in sections.

There are actually 2 goalies on the Bantam A Red team that are going to give Sellnow a run for his money.

Century's JV team finished the year winning 3 games WOW. Not much help
there for next year.

They will likely contend for the Big 9, only because the conference is so weak.

If the Minnesota State High School league rearranges sections again, it may be awhile before a team from Rochester goes to state again.

Mayo will have a good goalie next year. He will be a Junior next year, but other than that their team is pretty weak. I think it will be Albert Lea winning the big nine next year.
The senior is better than the junior, at the varsity level kids will pick up on the junior's poor form and big rebounds and capitalize on it. It could go either way right now, depends who puts in more effort in the off season.
hmmm. good goaltending eh? that will be the reason the reason they have no chance at winning any type of title next year. elde will be a deacent senior and VanGalder has never even played a game of traveling hockey during his youth days. i say elde is the better goalie but neither of them have played any substancial time at the varsity level. i think it might be a rebuilding year for mayo next year.

I Know Austin Probably wont be affective next year but does any one have any suggestions as to what to do, they will have about 8 seniors this year and have only lost 3 this year, I know that doesnt mean much at this point but does anyone think they could do something to be in more than about 5 games unliek this year?

How can you even say they got lucky? the shots were somewhere around 55-13. how is that luck?

Mayo didnt have one of the better jv teams and that doesnt mean anything when those players make the jump to varsity

Dirtflop, How can you say that Mayo didn't have one of the better JV teams this year. They only lost four games and only two of them were in the Big 9 in which both were to Owatonna. They beat everybody else not once but twice. There other two losses were to Champlain Park and Duluth East. You need to explain this a bit better or go back and look at the stats that you failed to do before posting.

maybe century kids should learn how to score.

Mayo will be tough next year with Dingle and Serratorre anchoring the defense. No goaltending next year couldbe a huge problem for mayo.

1.Century
2.Mayo
3.Faribault
4.Albert Lea/Winona
5.Albert Lea/Winona
6.East
7.West/Owatonna
8.West/Owatonna
9.Austin
10.JM

Century has some good juniors returning, and whoever their goalie is, he will be solid. Mayo had a strong JV, some of those guys ready for varsity. Faribault had a solid team who lost to Lourdes (state consolation) in overtime. Albert Lea is overated, their JV team was not the best. Winona could be decent. West is losing talent and Owatonna isn't the best. Austin won't beat out JM, i just wish they would.

You guys are clueless. Who cares who had a good jv team, it does not matter at all. No players are jv are gonna make any such impact on varsity. And mayo is going to be sooo bad next year they have no good players at all.

Century will win the section next year if they can get a decent 2nd and 3rd line, and if they get a couple good D.
Their 1st line will easily be the best in the conf. and they will put up all their points next year.
They will have Raehsler returning who is a great defensmen and they will have Sauter also who really improved!
They will also have the two really good goalies.

maybe century kids should learn how to score.

so 7 goals against mayo and 5 against lakeville shows that they dont know how to score? haha
