breakout, the reason van voorhis is on this list is because he is a great skater. if you look at the minnesotans on this list and have seen them all play, all of them are great skaters with great hands. if you looked at the top 20 that went to the national camp, all were great skaters. the worst skater was seth ambroz and he led the whole national camp (not to nention the whole 102 camp) in points and is now playing in the USHL. my point is the NTDP loves the van voorhis type players.

I would hope that NTDP would want great skaters
I watched Edina play a couple of times this year. Maybe I caught Van Voorhis on off nights. He seemed to skate around with the puck and didn't make a lot happen. If NTDP wants him and he is willing to go ........ good luck to the young man.

Apparently there were a couple others at the tryout not on the list, working on getting the full rundown, but the one mentioned was Horn - BSM

A few people have pointed to the SI article.
I'm curious if anyone has asked the kids that stayed behind with their HS team, because of the so called pact they made to each other, if they could do it all over again, would they do it again or would they have bailed? Also, how many of the group got left behind are now left in the dark? Obviously the ones that called on to do better things would, but what about the others?
Just out of curiosity.

Welinski isn't even the best defenseman in duluth so if he truly did get an offer then that would be pretty suprising

Well, Baker was quoted as saying he'd do it the same way if he got a second chance in the SI article.
Everson, Lee, and Budish-I'd hazard to guess that they're all pretty satisfied with where they're going now, despite staying in high school.
Gaarder-could have possibly benefitted from a year of juniors, though I'd assume he's off to do that anyways now.
Not really sure about Regan.
NTDP wasn't really an option for either of the last two, was it?
Of course, I don't actually know any of these people, but through my vague efforts to psychoanalyze them, I'd guess that most, if not all, of them are pretty happy with how their HS careers worked out.

Well, no...Derek Forbort is. He turned down the NTDP last year to stay at East.
I don't know if it's true either, but as a 6'1", 170-lb sophomore, he's got some potential, even if it's not completely visible yet. He was also stuck behind 3 seniors who could all conceivably play juniors plus Forbort last year, which obviously limited his exposure.

big decisions for all - especially when you factor in the $50,000.00
"I changed my mind" fee.

Anyone have any idea what amount of $$$ is put into each individual player? I have to imagine it is quite a bit with housing, equipment, travel etc etc.

Did Boyd for sure accept already? Makes sense - he already played two years of Varsity. Very nice player - wish him luck. Also makes sense for McNeely - didn't get much opportunity at STA this year and he is very talented. Any other MN boys get offers or is that it? I heard Van Voorhis accepted already. Wonder if that's why he got moved off first line for Edina in the State Tourney and off power play. Pretty lame if that's the case!! Defense sure struggled without him playing more in the fateful Moorhead game.
How about the EP defenseman - Molenaar? I saw him play in the State Tournament and was very impressed. Carl - what are your thoughts on how/why the offers went out? You always have great insight especially given your view from way up in the northern tundra. If the kids don't get an offer, do they still have a shot at the U17 team that goes to Europe to play for USA??? How does it affect their Adv. 16 status? Do they get an automatic bye to the National Team (you'd think they would if USA Hockey feels they are the best '93s in the country)?

the kids that did not get an offer from ann arbor absolutely have a chance to be on the select 17 team that goes to Europe. As a matter of fact, if you are chosen for the ann arbor program and accept, you do not get a chance to go to europe and play on the select team. They want to give as many kids as possible a chance to experience europe and the ann arbor team already has that as part of their regular schedule.
they do not get an automatic bye to the national team. There was a goalie from the cities (carruth) who participated in the ann arbor tryouts, went back to his regional tryout (in the chicago area I believe) and got cut.
Also, ann arbor usually completes their roster based on performances in Rochester. Some of these kids were told they would be further evaluated as the summer progresses. If you play in rochester and are then offered a spot, you are given a reasonable amount of time to decide and, you may still be placed on the select 17 team that travels to europe. The team that travels to europe comes exclusively from the rochester participants.
I do not know anything regarding minnesota kids accepting or declining.

Good info rushin. You are absolutely correct in that the kids who got the invite to Ann Arbor are by no means guaranteed a spot on regional team. I suspect there will be more than a few surprises here as they go back into the Final 54 pool head to head with their peers...
