0.1% chance. For lack of a better term, this team just sucks compared to the top teams in the state. They're lucky they don't seed all 8 teams at state or they would for sure get the #8 seed. The only way I can see them with a chance at making it past the first round is if they are lucky and draw the 4 seed.

Century can compete with anyone no question about that just top 3 thats a total no never gonna happen, their 1AA i dont think they have even been in the final since '77 when JM won it.

Century has been playing well since Christmas...
Lost many games early w/ 4-5 kids suspended for first half of the season... Got the kids back, beat a very good Duluth East team in Duluth (East played 2nd string goalie, but a win is a win)... Recovered in Big 9 Conference to win the second half of the season, and the Conference title... got through some concussion problems to three kids in the last game of regular season, and first game of sections, but played very well versus rival Mayo and dominated a Lakeville team they should have to reach State...
World beaters no... Trouble for a seeded team other than the Lake Conference schools in a one game scenario, maybe... O-2, don't think so...
That's my take...
IMO

79 and 89 are the only years that truly count in this equation. The sandwiched years don't count - Burnsville is section 2AA now. When people talk about section 1AA they are typically referring to Rochester teams and the occasional Albert Lea team. If Rochester wants to get better they need to schedule more games with top 10 teams - being that their conference is so weak.

Like I said, if they want to get better an gain some real respect, then schedule some games with schools that consistantly produce top 10 teams. Teams like EP, Edina, Tonka, Centennial, Blaine, MG, Holy Angels, etc... Heck even some of the top 20 programs would get you there. You play 3 of those teams and have good showings, you'll gain respect...
I think Rochester can produce good teams, but they'll never be ready for championship play/pace until they face some of these programs.

when i played there we played BSM who was a top 5 team in class A
Roseville was a top 10 team
St Cloud Tech was a top 20 team
Edina was a top 10 team
Tartan was a top 10 team
Duluth East was a top 10 team
Fargo South was teh top team in Nodak
There is only so much you can do as far as a schedule is concerned. Thats a tough non conference schedule if you ask me. I think he coaching staff has done a fantastic job scheduling tough non conference games in the past to get them ready for their post season runs.

Sandwich years don't count huh... I played against these teams during these years and you do not discount these years...
Section 1 or Region 1 was one of the best in the state year in year out, from '75 through the 80's...
Bloomington Jefferson
Bloomington Kennedy
Bloomington Lincoln
Burnsville
Rochester John Marshall
Rochester Mayo
Yes, today's 1AA is weak, and yes I agree that the Rochester's must schedule harder competition to become better and to offset the Big 9 schedule, and Rochester may have to try different approaches to developing more kids at the youth level...
Please do not simply dismiss history, it always has a way of coming back around... Section restructuring is coming, Lakeville schools and youth programs are getting better, Rochester will have it's teams, there is a better future for 1AA down the road...

i think the rochester public schools will begin to struggle in coming years due to the fact that the bantam coaches are all pitching tents over lourdes and brain washing all the kids to go there that have any talent... and alot of people will send there kids there for coaching reasons as well not that the reasons are legit

If they played the way like they did against Mayo and North they have a good chance. They need to stay out of the box at state.

That is because roch spreads through 4 schools.. if there was one or two schools, they would be just as good as the cities teams

agreed. i think that roch should keep lourades, but just combine one of the schools or all of them,it would be a big school though. thats the only thing.. otherwise rochester i think would be pretty darn good.

Duluth has 4 schools, and has roughly the same population as Rochester, yet seems to be able to field a quality team (if not 2 quality teams) every year

What's the relevance of them playing a "tough" schedule if they lose all the tough games they play. East would beat Century 9 out of 10 times, especially with their starting goalie in net.
They beat Tartan which is impressive, but the second game of the season is also irrelevant at this point. Losses at 3-1, 4-1, 6-1, 7-1 to these other teams is not a good sign.
Blaine ought to be lickin their chops seeing that they got Century in the first round. They beat Centennial 7-1, and I don't see the Felines from Century causing them anymore trouble. Sorry folks; outlook is grim.

They don't field enough A teams to feed that many schools. They generally in the past had two A teams, Rochester North and South, but I haven't really followed it as closely recently so i do not know what they are doing now. But still, two teams feeding 4 schools. It just doesn't work, they do not have enough kids getting the highest level of competition at the youth level and it hurts them when they get to high school.
