Everyone complains about how bad section 1AA is and they are right, it isnt a good section this year. But the MSHSL cant just go around changing the sections every year so we get the best state tourny because if they wanted that they would get rid of sections and just seed 1 through whatever. You have to remember that there was a time where this section sent a championship contender every year and they will do that again sometime. If you want to make this section better and have it produce contenders tell kids to stay at public schools like LN, LS, RC, RM, and RJM instead of going to Lourdes, STA, AHA, BSM, etc. Rochester and Lakeville have two great youth programs and if those kids decide to stay then this section will rise again.

thank you eagle4life, you are completely right.
First if you look at the high school team of Lakeville South, they are missing one junior and 4 sophomores playing at STA. If you add these 5 players to the lakeville south team they are suddenly a contender at the top of the conference. After seeing LS play it is fairly obvious that they have 2 lines, 2 defensmen, and no goalie. These 5 players from STA would add another line of forwards, a solid defensemen, and a D1 recruit goalie.
Also, i can understand where your coming from when you say these teams should not be allowed to play in state. Give it time, however, and it will be a solid section again. The youth programs at both cities are doing well. I dont know if you noticed, but 2 of the top 5 bantam A teams in the state are Lakeville South and Rochester
Give it time and this section will comeback

Haha... I'm so confident the team from this section won't win state this year that I'd bet my life on it. It will take a miracle for them to just get past the first round let alone win it all. This section isn't weak... it's horrendous. Keep dreaming though!

Jefferson and Eden Prairie would win the Big 9, and Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville and both Lakeville teams COULD win the Big 9.
i think thats crap! evryone says that the rochester schools are week. i wouldlike to see one other town try to have 4 high school hockey teams and try and compeat. i say that because lookat the youth teams right now rochester bantam A is 4th in the state. so yes when they all split up its hard to keep up. also rochester is a heck of a lot more strict on transfer rules, i dont no if u no this but if someone tranfers they MUSTsitout for a whole year. no excetpions. if roch had one or 2 school they would be in state/ the 1st place game every year! Exactly. When Rochester only had one high school back in the late 50's early 60's they won state almost every year. Same when Mayo and JM were around. If all the schools were combined you guys would be whining because we were too good.

Duluth East
Duluth Marshall
Duluth Denfeld
Duluth Central
It comes down to the development at the youth level. Rochester doesn't do it as well as other programs, and by the time kids get to HS, it shows. There are a few good players in Rochester every year, but the town doesn't have the talent depth of other large cities, and I blame it on the youth program.

thank you, thats my point and if we all moved to one side of town like they do for jefferson then everything would be different, but roch came out with rules perventing that. thats more then anyother town can say

What I wonder is why does Rochester only have one hockey association for 3 public high schools. I live in Woodbury and next year when Eastridge opens Eastridge will have it's own hockey association for the kids bound for Eastridge. The same is true for Eastview, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South. So why doesn't Rochester have 3 hockey associations one for Mayo, John Marshall, and Century.

You're right. If kids would stay in their programs, Rochester would field four fairly even teams.
RYHA needs to take a good look at other towns with successful HS programs year after year, and adapt to something similar. Of course they'll catch some heat if they change things drastically, but over time people will get over it. The quality of hockey would be much better in Rochester if they decided to develop kids for HS championships, not youth ones.

the reason is that we dont have the kids to have 3 a teams that can compeat. no town with 3 a teams are ever seen in the states rankings

What does the state bantam rating mean to the players future?

your right it means nothing but by the time there that age they cant tranfer without sitting out a year. scouts miss out on some of the BEST talent in the state beause they dont come to roch cus roch dont highschool championchips. that causes the bestsenors toleave early and go to junors insted of playing their senor year out

Well when you say that they cant compete having three 'A' teams thats stupid because they are going to have to compete like that in high school. Plus whats the best way to get better? Play. Play good competition. Rochester would benefit in the long run from having three 'A' teams at each level because the kids playing at that level will continually get better by playing the best competition that they will eventually play in high school.

I heard the same thing years ago and we took the Mayo side kids that the mafia did not want and won 3 of 5 games vs the chosen ones and competed and beat Duluth East and Grand rapids in regions and should have went to state but we got beat by a gritty Albert Lea team. These kids were told by the RYHA experts that they were not good enough to be bantam A's. Heck we did it without a strong goaltender because at the pee wee and squirt level none were developed. Actually one of our two goaltenders developed into a pretty good one.
My question years ago was which of the experts knew who was going to be 6'2 and work his tail off when he was 18. I said if they knew who all the good players were at age 13 14 15 than they are way smarter than I am.

well you just said rochester has 4 high school teams that can compete so why coudn't RYHA field 3 "A" teams that could compete?

if roch does this then it will be the way it is for jefferson and kenady. i thino ther towns need to make tansfer rules and all privet schools outof hockey. yes even rich lourdes. thats the only way to make everything fair

That was about 15 yrs ago. Same liars. with the addition of a Rochester legend and NHL player Doug Zmolek. He is a good man and is not a liar he is just drinking the kool aid.
as someone who played for doug, he is doing everything he can to get the numbers to go to a 3 youth team system. however there is noone in a harder spot then he is

Those kids would also get used to playing wiht each other and count on the fact that the kids they play with in Bantam A's will be the kids they play with at the High School level instead right now those kids will play with each other all the way up and then when they get to High School they'll all split up and go to different High Schools and have to play with kids their not used to playing with.
