I'm not going to call out anyone, but Zepeda and Landman both have state titles under their belts.

I would have guessed Oliver to be on the list. I believe he reinjured himself.

I also agree with your point on the award being too early. Just like 2006, when Jefferson was arguably the top contender in state. It was their Brimsek winner than cost them the section final game. Although, to be honest Lee probably was the best goalie that year and had a fantastic resume (especially compared to O'Connor)

who were the other Brimsek possibles? Fons is a junior right?
Well, the runaway preseason favorite bolted for juniors (Lee). Again, I'm biased, but I would have chosen DE's Matt Cooper, who leads the state in shutouts and has had a very solid year. Hemingway in Alexandria is also supposed to be excellent, though I've never seen him play.
Hemmingway could use a little more size but other than that there's not much bad to say. He's very good.
the only thing i have noticed is that when it comes to high pressure situations he doesnt perform well.. He cant get it done in the big games, against little falls he is 0-8. ive noticed that nobody mentioned sperl if people say that hemmingway is pretty good then i would have to say that sperl is just a little better then him, he is close to the top of the state in shutouts this year.

Sperl has a prolific offense and pretty solid defense in front of him. Give Hemingway a Bergland and Reid Herd back (Alex kid playing for Breck) and he'd be tough to beat. Alex D corps is pretty small and doesn't always clear the lane very well in front of Hemmy. Of the 0 - 8 vs LF, several of those games were 1 goal games that could have gone either way. Sperl is having a VERY good year however.

that is true about the offense and the defense. i think the majority of there games against each other were one goal games but a win is a win. its too bad that he didnt transfer to little falls liike the rumors were saying. it will be fun to see who will come out on top in the section final if they meet there

Funny, I heard rumors a few years ago that Hano, Festler, Hano & Berglund were transferring to Alex ;-)

You are talking about the third leading scorer on his Elite League team, correct?

When he plays against the best of the best, it's a different deal. Good player, yes .......... best NO

He wouldn't be the best forward on Centennial's team. Might be the third best behind Pitlick and Lovick.

I have to agree with breakout here, I believe that Hanowski is a PHENOMONAL player but not the best when you are comparing him to the rest of the players on this list. However, I believe that his team will make it to the state tournament and will win the state tournament. I also think that he will break the point record. However, does he deserve this title of Minnesota all time point scorer? Look at the teams that Little Falls has played. In many of those games, Hanowski puts up 5+ point nights. Then look at the amount of points that kids like Matson, Leddy, or Lee have put up AND the teams that they have played to get those points. In the end I think the winner WILL be Hanowski, only because he will break the point record. Although I don't think he deserves it.

What about the fact he was injured in the Elite League, how about the 13 points he put up at Model camp beating Edina's Marshall Everson by 1 and everyone else by a lot more. And he is just about as good as Pitlick, you could argue either way and much better than Lovick.

Model Camp stats are an utter waste of time to use for any reasoning. The teams are not balanced and it is summer hockey (not exactly a place where everybody is pushing it hard defensively, etc). My favorite example of how Model Camp stats are a total waste of time to use for hyping a player is the one summer when CJ Nibbe was the biggest scorer of the camp (by a decent margin). He ended up going to Yale and basically did nothing for scoring at the college level. He got an Ivy education so I give him props for that... but he wasn't much of a college hockey player despite what the stat sheet at the Model Camp that summer might have led somebody to project him to be.

Interesting you defend Hanowski and then state "he is just about as good as Pitlick." Do you mean he is not???

How about the fact that he played a couple of games less than the 2nd leading scorer on his team. Was he healthy during the games he played in? How about the fact that others played in the league while battling injuries from football. What about other players missing some games or playing hurt?

Mr. Hockey should be the states best player. Hanowski is a very good player. The fact is, he plays weaker foes in the high school league. When he was up against his peers in the Elite League he did not lead the pack.

i am happy max tardy was nominated. he is a good kid and a good hokcey player, however i don't think he should win.

Ben hanowski will, and should win this award. He is a great player. just look at the stats. Averaging about a hat trick a game, thats pretty impressive.

This a great group of nominees.

This award is about more than points. It is a total player. Johnny Pohl, if you saw him play, was awesome and you could see when he played that he was a man amongst boys. I have never seen Hanowski, but just because you score a bunch of goals does not mean you are the best over-all player. But in his defense, the award is not always given to the best player. The voting can be tainted and then it is given to someone who has the best lobbyists...

How do you know he is not a man amongst boys also?

That first goal is sick. While airborne, he redirects the puck just before crashing into the crossbar. The great part is he just gets up and skates away.

Give it a rest. Here are my thoughts.. Pitlick shouldn't be on the list for ALOT of reasons even though he is a great hockey player. Tyler Lapic isnt even the leading scorer on his team and has 78% of his points against teams with a losing record. Dan Delisle is a NHL scout prospect thus how he got on this list, he has done nothing against tougher competition this year. The three most credible candidates on the list are Leddy (my favorite), Hanowski (what he has done over his career and with his team this year is remarkable), and Everson (probably the states best pure scorer). Danny Mattson is a great choice and a great player but is too hot and cold and does not compete every night. What Jersey do you think Lee will wear to the Banquet...Notre Dame?

Max Tardy would be my pick.

Pitlick sat for two weeks...

What caused Pitlick's two week suspension earlier this season? I would have to say that alone takes away any chance of getting the Mr Hockey award.

But I could be wrong.

I am going to have to go with DeLisle on this one! He sould get A LOT more respect! By the way flatontheice you are a little off on your thoughts on DeLisle! every qulity team he has played agaist he has had 2 or more points except st. thomas! also if you look at TG's roster he doesnt have any one to play with on his line! All around great player to watch very skilled in all parts of the game not just goal scoring!
