I was in attendance at a Mpls/Park game recently and their parent behavior was shockingly bad. This was prior to the incident vs Johnson.

Not only have I seen this TYPE of guy...I have seen THIS guy. After this story aired, I was talking to a fellow parent and he reminded me of a game a couple of years ago when our team was playing Johnson and this guy (and a few others) were acting up then as well. He wasn't acting as over the top as it appears in this story, but I do remember him acting incredibly obnoxious. And the language used by him, parents, and the head coach during the game was beyond what you would consider acceptable at a youth game.WildFan wrote:I saw this story and I think all of us have seen this type of guy at a rink. How anybody can become 'that guy' is beyond me.
Muck, I will change this to hopefully all associations demand better behavior from parents, and coaches. We forget many times that this is about kids having fun and playing a game that they should love. Not about a parent having their kid make it to hs or college or pro hockey. It is about letting kids enjoy a great game. We should not have coaches, kids, refs quitting the game because of actions outside of the game.muckandgrind wrote:Not only have I seen this TYPE of guy...I have seen THIS guy. The funny part about this is that no parent I have talked to is shocked at all that Johnson parents were involved in this story.
Hopefully, the Johnson association can use this story as a wake up call and demand better behavior from their parents in the stands.
I agree. I thought I remember MN Hockey (or maybe it was just District 1) thinking about having all parents sign a "Parent Code of Conduct" form...gohawk4 wrote:Muck, I will change this to hopefully all associations demand better behavior from parents, and coaches. Can you imagine this guy in Squirt's, Peewee's or Bantam's if he's acting like this in a Mite hockey game? A coach represents the assoication and a team and he's not helping Princeton hockey in anyway.DonnyHockey wrote:hey it happens at all levels which is sad. A guy I work with has a kid in the Princeton association and is a Mite. He said their head coach is a complete tool and has had a few incidents this year. I guess last weekend was the topper. Apparently their coach accused the Roger's team they were playing of having a player that wasn't a Mite and wanted proof he was. He also accused Rogers to running up the score with this kid. This took place on the ice and carried over to outside the locker room where my buddy heard it all. The Roger's team showed this coach their team book to prove he was a Mite. They don't even keep score at the Mite level....what a tool. My buddy said the association has had a few complaints over this incident.
I agree one bad group of parents or a bad parent as in this case doesn't mean the whole association is a bag of bad apples. I think in all arena's should be able to ban parents on a case by case basis. You act up you're not welcome. Sounds like this guy has had other incidents and he shouldn't be allowed to watch hockey or allowed in the arena.Johnsonpres wrote:First I would like to thank everyone for "IT's Time To Bash Johnson". I know we have some problems in our association as does every association out there. Everyone that has posted on this board has had a bad parent or two and if you say you don't you are kidding yourselfs. We work hard at Johnson to have a good program and now that KSTP singled us out it is time to jump on the "bash wagon". I have been here for 35 years and in those years I have witnessed alot of things that could have had tv stations and newspapers busy writing and reporting for days, Has it really come down to who can make who look bad. Yes the parent involved will have to live with this report for awhile due to his actions, but let's not forget this is for the kids and keep other issues seperate. I have seen first hand many players with single parents grow and get good educations and become good citizens in our community and others. In closing Johnson hockey has been a savior to alot of kids and don't just let a few adults affect the way you think of the whole program.
Thank You,
Greg Pogreba (Johnson President)
