Amazed that a tourney with so many high quality teams would have refs that played against these boys last year as bantams...

wow one ref thats hs age with an adult. i find it incrediable that you can find a reason to blame officials in this tourney for your teams problems. are you from the cities? if you are double that because every time ive went down their its a penalty to touch someone on the ice. i watch alot of games this weekend none were decided by officials except maybe the grand rapids - cenntenial game and hey rapids did commit the crime and had to do the time. most calls were lagit i thought any how. the only other thing i seen was a man in the crease in the roseau ep game which the ref said the kid was pushed in. i didnt see it but i did see the player in the crease after the goal. thing is the kid wasnt laying on the goal keeper or preventing him from making the save goal would have been in either way. infact the goal looked very similer to the other three roseau scored. ep was doing a poor job of clearing loose pucks and it cost them 4 goals.

What's the problem ma.

We've been in the Twin Cities twice this year for tournaments with high quality teams. The reffing there is hit and miss. (and hopefully you miss the D6 refs).

Thanks Asst. Tourney Director.

Help me out here:

Did Rochester, White Bear Lake, Maple Grove, and Centennial all go undefeated in the tourney against northern teams? But got seeded for final game based on goal differentials or other determiners?

Calm down there Watchdog. First of all, did I say my team had problems? Second of all, Did I say that the refs were a cause of any teams problems? Thirdly, Did I say where I was from? Don't believe I did. All I said was that I amazed that a tournament with such high caliber teams would use a ref that played against these boys last year on the Bantam team. That's it. I may or not have grievances with the reffing that took place when my team or other teams played. That wasn't the specific issue I was bringing forth. I just questioned the wisdom of having a peer as a ref. :)

sorry i miss read your comment their (hm). you really didnt have a point.
your right conditioning sucks but their were some good games. rochester is much better than the rest at least this weekend. from what i watched tonka, whitebear, omg, cent, rapids, roseau and bemidji could go anyway on any given day. their all close. bemidji had a bad weekend or maybe roseau just played like crap the first time they met them  just like roseau played bad against cent on thursday and ep in their tourney loosing 10-1. now beating them 4-1. its hockey and anything can happen.

I don't have a point? Actually I do. You don't have to like it, but there is a point. My point is that I am suprised, and think that it is very unwise, to have kids reffing that played with and against the boys that are playing in a tournament. Just because they can, doesn't mean they should. Some Bantam teams have young sophomores playing on their teams. Sophomores reffing sophmores is not a good thing. Refs of all ages can make terrible calls -- which definitly did happen -- however, when it is a peer making that call . . . well, Let's just say as someone who has chaired a tourney -- I would stick with adults.

I agree. If teams are spending the money to travel long (or short)distances to play in these tournaments, you should expect that the host would provide quality ADULT officials, not children.

Roseau has some of the states very best referees that actually have played the game. I would suppose you have a point with regards to having one adult minimum to ward off lunatic parents. Based on the thread it sounds like some parents were completely out of control from a certain suburb.

Well, Speaking as the person who DID chair this tournament -- There didn't seem to be any issues and all officials that were appointed the games were of proper working levels determined by USA Hockey. During no time did I have anybody approach me with any issues regarding this. The loan official in question always worked the game with a registered adult.

Over the course of the weekend I had several parents come to me with compliments not only on the tournament, the city and people of Roseau but also the quality of the officiating. It must not have been that bad of an experience. Personally, I thought it was a great weekend with alot of good teams and great people from all parts of the state.

Is there any truth to the rumors that you had HS-age officials reffing Bantam games?

"There didn't seem to be any issues and all officials that were appointed the games were of proper working levels determined by USA Hockey."

Exactly. So for those who have an issue with who was officiating, take it up with USA Hockey, not the ones running the tourney in Roseau.
