NightTrain, The District 3 website shows Minneapolis Park as a District 3 A Bantam team also. So which is it?

Because there are so few associations in D1, D2 and D3, the three Districts arranged for the D1 teams to also play a series of games vs. neighboring Districts. The D1 teams west of the river (Mpls-Park and Washburn) play their D1 opponents but also added a series of games with D3 teams helping both district teams gain additional games without the difficulty of finding dates, ice and refs. The games were scheduled as part of normal District scheduling before the season. The D1 Associations east of the river (Highland, Como, Johnson and Irondale) did the same with D2. It's been a nice arrangement that has helped boost the number of games for all the associations in all three Districts. At playoff time all the teams will compete in their home District.

No. Just pointing out that this years State Tournament will not have the best eight teams in the state participating. There will be better teams left at home from D2, D6, D8, D10, etc. However, agreed that all the teams going in know the rules and what it takes to get in. Keeping wining and you're in. Just like the Super Bowl, World Series, BCS championship, Final Four, the best teams rarely are in the final tourament. In those tournaments the world seems to root for the underdog and glorify the "Cinderella" story, why cannot a team from D1, 4, or 5 experience that? Did they not play their way into the state tournament? Did they not pay their dues throughout the season just like the teams in D2, 6, 8, 10? (noticably all metro or metro influenced districts) Why not tell those kids and families at signup, yeah, your gonna pay like the rest, your going to travel and endure the injuries and triumphs and tragedies, but since the zealots from certain districts think that their hockey is better, you are exempt from post season play because you are precieved as less of a hockey player than ALL the teams in their district.

You're right, win and your in, be it Edina, Eden Pairie, Mankato, Sartell, Little Falls, Moose Lake, Alexandria, whoever, just win and everthing takes care of itself. But they ALL deserve the chance to participate.

Tend to agree with Bogeyman, they should get their shot, just not all in the same region, typically in the final four, BCS,World Series, or Superbowl, a cinderella team needs to defeat the so called favorites to get there. That is what creates the buzz of the world getting behind them. Not having to beat anyone doesnt create much buzz. In this years bantam tourney a cinderella team only needs to defeat other cinderella teams for a shot in the dance!

But once they get to the dance, there are still two to three games to play! This is starting to sound like the people that want to change the NFL playoffs because this year a 12 win wildcard team had to travel to 8 win Div Champ and lost, so we HAVE to change the playoffs.

Probably wouldn't be too much complaining from certain corners if D6 was grouped with D1 and D5 for a regional, that way there would be NO risk of D6 NOT having two seeds in the state tourney, wouldn't want to risk losing.

This region format is up for review in April.
And will be discussed by the District Directors next weekend at the state meeting.

The "ya but" here is that the cinderella story in the NFL or MLB or BCS or Final four all have to beat good teams to be a cinderella story... the sports nation would be up in arms if the final four of basketball was created with all the top teams in 3 brackets and all the crappy teams in another. they would immediatly call foul. (no pun intended)

I think a cinderella story is great, but only one that is truly a cinderella story, so if forest lake makes it out of the east region or sartel out of the west that is a cinderella story I can back, buffalo from the south is just a disgrace. At least in the old days They sent Rochester into the Silver division for some sort of team.

And D1 got dominated, i certainly hope i dont see a 19-1 game in the state tourney.

Even though im coming in late on this, i really disagree with St. Paul Johnson making it to regions and for that matter STATE?

Johnson is the second best team in D1 they should make regions

No, I think what people are saying is the East and West Regions are pretty loaded this year and they wouldn't have a very good chance of getting there if it weren't for the weaker South Region. Also they wouldn't make it out of the district if they played in D3 for playoffs seeing as only get 2 seeds this year...Wayzata and OMG.

Ask yourself this where does Mpls Park rank in these 2 regions

East

Apple Valley, Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Jefferson, Chaska
Rochester, Lakeville S, Eagan, Woodbury
White Bear Lake, Roseville, Tartan

West
Wayzata and Maple Grove
Rogers, Centennial, Anoka, Elk River
Moorhead, Brainerd, Alex, Fergus Falls

Remember not all those teams will make the regional and only 2 go.

They switch every two years.
Of course combine 1A and 1AA for the youths.

Hockeyman and whatastud,

Very presumptuous. While Minneapolis Park would be my favorite out of the South Region, a review of their schedule and tourney performance shows that the possibility exists that they may not make it out of Districts.

Here's my reasoning:
1) Performance under Pressure - Minneapolis Park has been nothing but unimpressive in tournament play this year. They have hung their hat on an early season upset of Rochester Red, but have not performed well against Lakeville (8-3), Woodbury (5-0), Eagan (6-0), Moorhead (3-0) and Duluth East (6-1) in other tournament play (not to mention a 4-2 loss to Blaine back in November).

2) Performance against D1 opponents. Minneapolis Park has beaten Johnson 3-1 and Highland 2-1. These were 'non-pressure' league games. A hot goalie and those games could tilt the other way.

They are a good hockey team, but one that doesn't seem to handle pressure situations well. It is very possible that Johnson or Highland could outwork them in District 1 or at the Regionals and Minneapolis Park could be playing golf early in mid-March.
