Dallas' top teams web site is dallasstarsaaa.com they could handle most mn high schools top teams because they are comprised of the top players from a large area. I've seen them play as well as other teams in the Midwest elite league, they have some top notch players.

Here's a link to their website. Interesting. I did not know there is high school hockey in Texas. It has a diary of their MN trip. They got to experience some outdoor hockey while here & they saw a great Gophers-NE game at Mariucci. It's an all boys school of 1,000 students in grades 9-12.

Had to be a great trip for them. Props to the coaches for pulling it all together.

The Jesuit players and parents were also very gracious and well mannered.

For those that care about USA hockey it is a good thing that a team from Texas can come up here and be competitive. I don't think Minnesota hockey is slipping but rather other areas are starting to build respectable hockey programs. This is good news for the sport!!

After reading the 2009 Trip Diary on their website, I've come to understand that Texas hockey doesn't have a zamboni clean the ice inbetween periods?

He mentioned how we have a "zam" inbetween periods and after the warmup. Is that new to them?

Notice how I was talking about the fact that having a zamboni clean the ice after warm-ups and after each period is different then what they do down there. I was asking if this is true or not.

Instead, I get a 3rd graders response to a simple question.

The team was alright from what I saw at the game vs. Edina JGA. They didn't manage more than 2 shots on Edina in the first period. They were shutout until the 2nd half of the 2nd period when Edina made a goalie change. They scored one very weak goal and one legit one. They could skate pretty well but they played dump and chase the whole time and could rarely connect on passes, resulting in a lot of icings. So good skating but poor stick handling. Edina had no problem with them. Overall it was good to see a team from Texas make the trip up here and play some real competition. It seems that Texas is building up a good program but they have many years to go before they would be able to compete with Minnesota, if that ever happens.

Hockey is getting quite popular in Texas. There was another team from Texas up here in Minnesota over the holidays -- Mansfield, TX. Both they and the Jesuit team are in the North Texas Hockey League and both had identical records of 10-3 before heading up north. (Jesuit was the Texas state champion last year.)

The Mansfield team lost to Virginia 10-0, Thief River 11-2, and Crookston 4-1.

Obviously, these teams are trying to take steps to go to the next level by coming up here where hockey is king to compete. I'm sure it will be an invaluable experience for the teams and the players.

Does anyone know if it is a Varsity sport through the normal Texas HS Association that oversees football and basketball, or is it more of a club sport where there is a HS league?

I know the state's AAA programs are very competitive.

The Texas version of the Minesota State High School League or the FSHAA is the Texas Univeristy Athletics League and no hockey isn't an official IUL sport in Texas. I believe it's run through USA Hockey.

Correct, we are not part of the UIL. We play under the Rocky Mountain District of USA hockey. However some schools like us reconize hockey as a true varsity sport.

i give a lot of credit to these teams, to travel to play the best possible competition out there, i can forsee some good teams coming out of the south in the future, granted its goin to take a long time but these teams are taking the right steps to continue to get better, im glad to see them come up here and play the minnesota teams,

Hey Jesuit coach, get up north next year, like Grand Rapids, Cloquet, Duluth East, Hibbing, Virginia. The experience would be better as far as the number of fans. Maybe convince those coaches to schedule as an actual game and get their pep band in the building.

This is an awesome story. It reminds me of the Jamaican bobsled team. I'm not trying to make fun, I actually find that story quite inspirational.

It'd be like Minnesota's best soccer team traveling to Brazil. They'd get crushed by any decent team there, but I'm sure they'd have fun and be quite proud of themselves if they could knock off ANY lower tier team.

I saw these guys at chipotle and again at the blaine/C-E-C matchup as well, i knew Jesuit hockey sounded familiar, I just couldnt remember where i heard it!
