This is an interesting topic. I see there are alot of postings with the feeling of "suck it up and forget about it". Now that is easy to say at times not knowing the internal situation. Yes of course some of you that have this feeling might have been in similiar situations as I was. But like my situation I was not if you want to say a vulnerable kid and I was a descent hockey player that was going to make a contribution to the team and other kids new this which was going to make my life easier throughout the season. Now turning the situation around there are always vulnerable kids that go out for sports just to be involved and not really go compete as there ability does not allow for this. These kids usually (high percentage) are the victims of these hazings . Higher profile kids are usually are not targeted. And in these situations it usually doesn't get better because relatively it doesn't have to if the kid is not in the circle to say. Alot of these get reported due to it being a lose -lose situation. And alot of these hazings are not reported due to it being kids that are in the circle and electing not to make it an issue. I don't know anything about this individual in regards to is makeup or situation with the team but I would not fault him for reporting this to attempt to make life easier. Because mabye life will not be easier either way. And for the kid that urinated on the stick well I would have been happier reading a posting that said this kid got the stick shoved up his you know what for doing this. But kids like this don't target kids that have the availability to do that.

Ditto. Your son needs to get the captains to take care of it. If anything happens along these lines again your son needs to step up and show the kid there will be consequences to his actions and I don't think telling the coach or AD will do much good. If your son take on the older kid everyone on the team will see that he'll stand up for himself and likely get behind him. Stupid and illogical but remember you are dealing with 15-18 yr old boys and in general stupid and illogical rule the day.

i think if he just doesnt do anything about it and jokes about it if/when someone brings it up then he will gain more respect than if he tries to fight the kid. just catch him with his head down in practice or something. if the older kids see that they can easily get a rise out of him he will probably be targeted more in the future. on the other hand he could always stoop to the other kids level and put some icy hot in the kids jock, or any other number of harmless pranks.

I agree completely - and I didn't at first. Remember also - you are guessing at what the reason is even if there is no good reason for it at all. Is your son as furious as you are? I'd use this as a good time for him to learn to stand up for himself and not necessarily turn the other cheek, but learn to pick his battles.

all teams have some form of hazing..its part of HS.
