Right now, the only contributers are really the BIG 3....RSI, Jet, and the mighty green machine. But who else really matters. We need to get some input from Redwing and Northfield. I have heard that Redwing and Northfield scrimmaged the other day. Redwing beat Northfield 3-2. That looks good for Jet's picks and mine. RSI you might want to seek counseling from your therapist on your picks. Those picks are way out there. I heard Northfield smashed Austin and Albert Lea. Looks like Redwing and Northfield will have to be reckoned with. RSI, still think Redwing is a #5 seed in the section?

How was Twinnesota's trip overseas with Obama?

Austin, Albert Lea & Faribault had younger players last year on their teams didn't they? Even though the teams lose some experienced players, don't they still have younger girls to help out? Don't count them out yet! Give em a shot and see what happens.

I don't think anyone is counting out Faribault.

Any predictions "what's may name" on the section, or do you want to leave it to the big 3. :D

My predictions, hmmm!
I have to say that the teams I counted out last year because of losses of players and young girls coming in. Also, the teams that I thought would do better started out strong and finished slow, as you have all said.

I am going to take a shot in the dark here. For me, it is a toss up between Albert Lea, Austin and Faribault. But I put Austin in #2 because they still are the team to beat.

1. Red Wing
2. Austin
3. Albert Lea
4. Faribault
5. Northfield
6. Waseca

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I explained why I had each team where??

Pre-Season picks:1A prediction
1. Austin: Undefeated in 2 seasons of 1A, beat them first and then I'll move them. Best coach in 1A!
2. Faribo: Probably more stable than some of their fans
3. Northfield: Much like AL, we've been expecting good things for a couple years now. Enough talking already.
4. Albert Lea: Too many issues last year, hopefully they can play up to their abilities. Basically the same team as last year.
5. Red Wing: I know nothing about them except Rose Alleva is a fantastic hockey player
6. Waseca: I know very little about them.

Post-Season seeds:1A prediction
1. AL (who did you expect me to put here? )
2. Northfield
3. Red Wing
4. Austin
5. Faribo
6. Waseca

It really should be just a 2 team (AL and NFLD) race, but as we've seen before it's probably pretty wide open, almost any team could get the #1

I'll go with.

Albert Lea
Northfield
Red Wing
Faribault
Austin
Waseca

AL has a new Asst. Coach, Brittany Arendt's hire was recently approved by the School Board.

OK, I will bite. Who is Brittany Arendt? What college did she play at?
Is she another AL girl? I hope so.
Long live the traditional underachievement of AL !!!!!

I'm curious if AL or Faribault will have a 14U team this year or if all their 7th, 8th and 9th grades are jumping to high school. Rumor is that Owatonna will have a 14UA team this year. Good for them, not slacking off at a B level.

When my daughter reaches 14U I will keep her there and not let her go to H/S early but I hear that a lot of Rochester 12-14 year old girls are jumping up this year. It looks like there will be players sitting in the stands because the teams will all have more than their roster limit but no JV. Such a dumb way to spend a hockey season!

Oh yeah, I meant to almost agree with Olympia's prediction for 1A.

Albert Lea
Austin
Northfield
Red Wing
Faribault
Waseca

AL will be slacking off again choosing to skate a U12B team this year. I shouldn't say that because I don't know the specifics as to why, it could just be a numbers thing. It sounds like some of the U12 eligible girls who are in 7th grade are going to skate HS. Even if they don't play much during games at least they'll be tested in practice, assuming practices are a bit more challenging than last season  .

Brittany Arendt played at UW-Superior, which I believe is a better program than Concordia =D> . I feel a lot better about this hire, at least she's somewhat of a known quantity around here. I'm willing to bet the level of BS is down CONSIDERABLY, she's kind of a no-nonsense gal.

Based only on AL's new Asst. Coach I will revise my picks to state:
1. AL
2. NFLD
3. Red Wing
4. Austin
5. Faribo
6. Waseca

I am disregarding history and AL's former shortcomings, that's ALL in the past. Albert Lea IS the team to beat. I'm still not sold on Red Wing, then again I don't know much about them. Austin has a coach who gets the most out of his teams, they could be as high as 2. NFLD, much like AL, should have something to prove. Faribo, based on what I know (falcons89, greenmachine, ZAMBONI), is all talk :P :P :P

This is none of my business, but having 7th and 8th graders play HS isn't the formula for success in this sport. Whoever is in charge in these places must not be hockey people or they'd put an end to it. And I don't buy it that numbers are an excuse.
It's a good call to keep your daughter in U14--she'll be able to actually develop and the ones who jump to HS won't.

I think that when your daughter moves up to HS depends on where you live and how your youth programs are whether they will develop more at at a youth level or HS level. Cities skaters may benefit more from being in u14 levels, where girls that are in the Southern half and have no teams to play unless they travel 4 hours away may be better off skating at the HS school level. When you look at each different scenerio, you will have a different answer for each area. Good luck to all girls at all levels of play no matter how old you are.

Be careful what you say..........you ask an intellectual question, the post might get deleted. I think this site is run by the Albert Lea Mafia.

So did the New AL assisstant play for Superior or not?

I hope the 14UA teams just look harder. These are some 14UA teams from 07-08:
Winona
Owatonna
Lakeville
Eagan
Rochester
Cottage Grove
Highland Catchall
Eden Prairie
Edina
Chaska
Minnetonka
NSP/Tartan/Roseville
Rosemount/Eastview
White Bear Lake
Osseo Maple Grove
North Metro
Wayzata
Stillwater
Orono
Armstrong/SLP/Cooper

These teams are all within the the twin cities or Southern Minney. I guess Kasson is not going to have a 12U or 14U team so their girls will either waive to Rochester or Owatonna. They can also go to high school or play with the boys.

It looks like JM/Lourdes will have about 25 girls this year. Not enough for a JV but of course only 20 can dress for games. Uuggghh.

Not all associations had a 14UA team, many had a 14uB and I think that that is where the problems were coming in.

Hey, I was talking to our 14U coach last week and he told me that the 4 on 4 high school league is a go and they have 10 teams. Great job, DC and RW coaches. This sounds like the perfect solution to preseason H/S hockey if you don't want to run up to Lakeville, Bloomington, Blaine etc. For the girls playing soccer, tennis, Xcountry or volleyball this has to be the coolest thing going. How many of the Section 1 teams will be in this? Since the games are 4 on 4 I suspect that the play will be wide open with some individual play highlighted.

This weekend I heard that the JM team will be using the 12UA goalie. I don't know if she will skip 12U this year but she is in 7th grade so its possible.

Why does firecracker78 (rocket) always spin this thread into something besides section 1A? He is a great liberal democrat. Spin away from issues to something you would like to talk about.

Falcon, why don't you honor your commitment and just stay off the forum? Changing your name is just cowardly.

From what I see of the 4on4 league, it is Section 1. What's the problem, did your daughter get cut already?

Funny. We should have a poll, nominating a new name for RSI. Or falcons , maybe you could come up with one of your top ten lists. That could be entertaining.

Serious note, it is good to hear Brittany Arendt is the new assistant at Albert Lea. I believe it says a lot for our sport, when a young woman who played good hockey for this community, returns to take on a role in the organization. Good luck.

Ouch! Too young, and not ready for HS; not ready skills wise, emotionally, or socially...
Bad trend, very bad trend!
