So he'll listen to college coaches even if he hasn't committed to their program? How common is that? I know that Gardiner moved to defense based partially on the advise from Troy Jutting, though he didn't commit to MSUM. Do high school players take the advise of college coaches in hopes that they'll earn scholarships from that particular school, or from any school?stopper1 wrote:Drafted by the Fargo Force and made the team. Still undecided whether he will play high school hockey or go to juniors. Ultimately I think it will depend on what the college coaches advise him to do. He is very capable of being Mr. Hockey.
I would think most if not all should take the advice offered from a college coach regardless of an offer. These coaches certainly wouldn't be offering tips that will hurt them.stopper1 wrote:I think most high school players will take the advise of a college coach as long as there is some sort of verbal commitment or scholarship offer in the works.
Can a class A player even win the award? I am pretty sure they can't.mch wrote:from this list i'm gonna wager that a tyler wins itThe Exiled One wrote:A very good group of fowards this year, depending on who stays...
Tyler Landman- Roseau
Danny Mattson- Academy Of Holy Angels
Marshall Everson- Edina
Zach Budish- Edina
Tyler Zepeda- Hill-Murray
Tyler Pitlick- Centennial
Nick Oliver- Roseau
Anders Lee- Edina
Josh Birkholz- Blake
Ben Hanowski- Little Falls
Tyler Lapic- New Prague
If the 2009 Mr. Hockey is a forward, he'll come from this list... bank on it. As for defensemen, I don't see enough depth to make the same claim. Leddy would be my best guess though.

2010 ??? Aus from Centenial
2011 Nick Bjudstedfrom Blaine, or Kyle Rau from Ep
anyone agree?
I heard he is one concussion away from having to hang them up.MnPride2 wrote:Mr. Bjugstad has my vote, great skater, great with the stick, great rink vision and hockey sense,he has all the tools to make it happen, plus his size is starting to come into play. I'm not sure if it was as much the gophers decision as it was his own. three years is a long time to be away from home and then add on some years of college. I'm sure he will develop just fine without the extra year of NTDPMnPride2 wrote:Mr. Bjugstad has my vote, great skater, great with the stick, great rink vision and hockey sense,he has all the tools to make it happen, plus his size is starting to come into play. Great group of namesThe Exiled One wrote:Although a lot can change through the course of the season, I'm going to shorten my prediction list. Though Leddy is my frontrunner for defensemen, I think the forward class is too deep to pick any blueliner. And, as far as I know, the class and classroom character of the players on my list is sound, so that just leaves their actually hockey performance and how the scouts and coaches project them to do after HS. So now that we have a better idea of who is NOT going to juniors, this is my shortened prediction list...
Danny Mattson- Academy Of Holy Angels
- Danny should be able to put up some numbers, but AHA will have to have an improved season (and likely make State) for him to have a chance.
Zach Budish- Edina
- Assuming Zach keeps pace with Everson and Lee, he should be the frontrunner amongst all candidates including his teammates. Everson and Lee were already passed over in the NHL draft, which indicates that the scouts will favor Zach in the voting process.
Tyler Pitlick- Centennial
- Tyler did what he needed to do in getting named to the USA U18 Select Team, now he just has to dominate his competition to take the lead.
Ben Hanowski- Little Falls
- The big IF for Ben is can he put up triple digit points without his brother or Festler? If he can, the voters will have to justify to themselves why they AREN'T voting for him.
I didn't name any of the Roseau boys because Oliver projects as the better pro but Landman should put up better numbers, thereby cancelling eachother out. Again, these are just predictions, and a lot can change throughout the course of the season.
Will Lapic be healthy enough given his current situation? Seems like that is a big question mark from what I hear.breakout wrote:Lapic? Should put up big numbers. The size of his school might hold him back.
Wouldn't that qualify as their justification for not voting for him?Gopher Blog wrote:Will Lapic be healthy enough given his current situation? Seems like that is a big question mark from what I hear.breakout wrote:Lapic? Should put up big numbers. The size of his school might hold him back.
As for Hanowski, I am sure he'll have great numbers. But I hardly see it being a situation where voters would have to justify why not to vote for him. For instance, it is painfully clear that of the names mentioned in the last few posts, he plays far and away the weakest schedule. You could very easily make the case that some of the other candidates who play in more difficult conferences could put up similar or better numbers under similar circumstances.
Don't NHL types have a say in Mr. Hockey?Gopher Blog wrote:When did the voters ever have to justify anything in the past?
I think it is clear they haven't focused as heavily on the statistical stuff as you do... and they certainly didn't have to justify anything then either. Particularly when you consider that defensemen have won the last four times and they don't tend to be the top point guys.
A rather curious statement on your part to act like they have to justify not voting for a guy just because of his points.
Yes. Which is all the more reason why the stats part of the equation is not quite the major deal some seem to make it into. If that was the issue, we'd have seen guys from Silver Bay or Morris winning it in recent years.breakout wrote:Don't NHL types have a say in Mr. Hockey?
Except for people with pathological disorders, every action every person takes has to be justified to themselves. I never claimed they had to justify it to anybody else.Gopher Blog wrote:When did the voters ever have to justify anything in the past?
I'll concede that for two of the four that's true, but Ness and Fischer were the highest scoring players on their respective teams.Gopher Blog wrote:I think it is clear they haven't focused as heavily on the statistical stuff as you do... and they certainly didn't have to justify anything then either.
