Edina might. I don't think Roseau can.

Are you talking about Roseau's schedule or Moorhead's?

Edina has played:

Eastview (current PS2 rank is 20)
Burnsville (9)
Grand Rapids (18)
Eden Prairie (14)
Benilde (their loss - 7)
Centennial (6)
Hopkins (22)

They have upcoming games with Minnetonka (2 times, 2) and Hopkins again. Also, this weekend is Cloquet and Duluth East (8).

Some of the teams they scheduled wound up being lousy (Rochester Century was 3rd Place last year at the state tournament and Cretin, 2006 champs, obviously has fallen).

How many Top 10 teams has Roseau played? Top 25?

I don't see how anyone can complain about Edina's schedule. It is as tough as anyone else's.

Edina penalty Kill

After seventeen games, Edina has given up 9 goals in 62 attempts. What is even more amazing is that they have scored 12 shorthanded goals, meaning that they're actually +3 on the year while shorthanded.

Their power play is merely solid, with 17 goals in 63 attempts, but their penalty kill is amazing.

Having seen them all year, they do give up chances while short handed. It's just that their goaltending is good enough to limit the goals given up, while their ability to score shorthanded neutralizes most teams' power plays.

That site is www.minnhock.com/strength.htm.

If you visit it, you'll see the most recent update has Edina 5th and Roseau 47th in terms of their opponents' average PS2 rating.

Edina's opponents' average PS2 is 18.51. Roseau's is 16.80. It's not that Roseau schedule is "so easy". It's comparatively easier than Edina's, and by a good deal.

Edina has faced twelve teams with a PS2 higher than 18.00. Roseau has faced three.

The lowest rated team Edina has faced (Chaska), has a higher PS2 than four teams Roseau has faced (Bemidji, Farmington, Lake of the Woods, Winnipeg River East).

Statistically speaking, it's not even close. And considering how I feel about these two teams, it pains me to even say that. Roseau always has been and probably always will be one of my favorite teams.

Another stat I would be curious about is short-handed goals.

People are so touchy. Edina has a difficult schedule this year, I don't think anyone can dispute this.

Roseau

RHF, you are reduced to comparing Roseau to Edina through Moorhead because the Rams haven't played many of Minnesota's good teams. Any? Okay, maybe that's a bit harsh, BUT.... Moorhead plays a tough sked and Roseau doesn't.

I don't know why anyone would worry about Roseau and their SOS. There hasn't been one person that says they aren't great this year and one of the few teams that look poised to win state.

Roseau either wins state or loses to a good team. This much we know. They'll have to win one or two games against teams that are better than anyone they've played so far.

I thought this was about Edina's penalty kill (see my post above) not the comparative difficulty of Edina's and Roseau's schedule. It's quite a stupid thing to go on about. Roseau is limited to the teams it can travel to and play during the year. The only thing that really matters is what they do when they get to state. Regardless of not being able to face the larger metro teams game in and game out, they've won three state titles in the past 18 years. That's more than any one else other than Jefferson, who also has three (Four if you go back a year earlier to 1989).

Schedule or not, if Edina can put the puck in against a top goalie and defenseman they'll have a good shot. If not, it may be like Edina's losses to Grand Rapids last year and Benilde this year in which they fell behind and couldn't score. Roseau is an outstanding team who's forced into a mediocre schedule. But they're still a top team, and with their defense and goaltending, they're the team to beat, and I doubt any Edina player will think otherwise unless and until they're fortunate enough to play them and beat them. But then again, I'll bet both teams are far more concerned about the games ahead of them in the next two weeks.

They've given up at least one. That is a fact.

Who really cares who has the best PK? It only takes one mistake on the PK, and it can end up in the back of your net quick.

boblee edina has scored 12 shorthanded and let in 9 on the power play if that helps that makes them plus 3 on powerplays dominant?? i think so

Sorry, I didn't notice that.

Edina's PK is at 82.25%
Grand Rapid's PK is at 84.62%

So is their PK the best? No. Is their PK offense the best? Probably.

So Guru, if Edina loses 4-2 to Minnetonka are you going to say they are "overrated"?

Or are you predicting 6-0 Skippers?

I don't know anyone that will be surprised if Edina loses to Minnetonka. These teams are Top 3 in every ranking and 1-2 in the computer rankings I've seen.

When #2 beats #1 doest that mean someone has been "overrated"? Hardly.

If Edina's "overrated" they'll lose both games this weekend and get drilled running time by Tonka.

I doubt Edina is overrated at all. Put them on a short list with Roseau, Hill, Benilde, Minnetonka, and maybe another team or two of the strongest teams in the state.

Here's a little look at the head to head match ups of some of the teams that have been on both Roseau's and Edina's schedule.

I've checked out Edina's "difficult" schedule. They've played Wayzata 3 times. The same Wayzata team that lost to Moorhead 7-0. Edina sqeaked out a 3-2 victory against Grand Rapids. The same Grand Rapids team that lost to Moorhead 4-2. Moorhead tied both Eden Prairie and Centennial, two of the better teams on Edina's schedule. If they couldn't even beat Moorhead how good can they be? Roseau dominated Moorhead in both games this season. Warroad and Thief River both beat Moorhead. Roseau also played ND powerhouse Red River of Grand Forks and Bloomington Jefferson.

Here are the PS2 rankings of some of the other Edina opponents.
Maple Grove PS2=39
Chaska=74
Elk River=31
Brainerd=27
Cretin Dur Hall=37
Wayzata=32 (They are obviously way overranked)
Armstrong=36

All this to say that this talk about Edina's schedule being "so hard" and Roseau's "so easy" is obsurd. And if there is a site that says Edina's is the 5th hardest and Roseau's is 47th than obviously something is broken in the system
How many top ten teams has Roseau played i believe one Jefferson and didn't they just sneak by like 4-3 in the closing seconds. Didn't Edinabeat down on a top 5 hopkins team at the time 4-0 and they also beat Cretin 9-0. Roseau doesn't have 9-0 scores against the crappy teams they play. The hardest team Roseau has played this season is ranked 10th. Roseau is a good team but we won't be able to see how good they really are until march comes.

Hill-Murray has a better bk percentage, now 90.14%, has 11 sh goals vs 7 power play goals allowed. Not only that but the only short handed goal hill has allowed was kicked in by Andy Singerhouse. Hill is statistically better on pk and pk offense.
