No sarcasim, truth. You are right, Moose is a model for how dedicated a coach should be in todays game.

Try not to read more than the words on the screen. My computer doesn't talk to me and tell me when sarcasim is present. Is that a new program on Windows?

Registration quesion

Does the Stillwater association have anywhere on their registration forms the question of CURRENT SCHOOL ATTENDING________________?

Didn't Housley F up that program last year when his kid wasn't chosen to be captain by his teamates, but instead a Hill Murray kid? Then after demanding his son wear the C, ended up pulling his kid and making him the JV C at the high school?

No, Housley didn't F anything up.

His son didn't get picked as the "C", not a problem. Player from Hill getting picked as "C", problem. Not because he isn't worthy, but the Stillwater program has an obligation to building up the Stillwater program.

Registration question

* * CERTIFICATION STATEMENT * *
I hereby register my child to play Youth Hockey for Stillwater Area Hockey Association. I certify that my child(ren) LIVES within the boundaries of School District #834. I understand that if this is found to be an incorrect statement, my child(ren) will be immediately ineligible to participate in Stillwater Youth Hockey activities. In addition, I also understand that I will forfeit any fees already paid. I have read, understand and agree to abide by this statement.

The word LIVES is capitalized by the association, not me. It doesn't say anything about "will attend" or "is attending", it states "LIVES within".
When politics stops playing a roll in youth hockey, all of this bull4444
we discuss on this board will go away...

Let me ask you this Tyrell, if 3 kids show up at Stillwater Bantam A tryouts
and are clearly the #1, 2 and 3 skaters at the tryout, but played for a team like the FIRE the year before and are enrolled at Hill Murray, in your opinion would these players be selected for Bantam A in the traditional method of selecting the best fit of players, or do they not get selected because of policital pressure on the evaluators to focus on grooming kids for Stillwater high school.

WHen you answer this question, remember we're talking about 13 year olds that are playing hockey with kids who live down the street and they grew up with elementary and middle school.

The youth program - yes. To promote amateur hockey - yes. To build up exclusively the Stillwater HS program - NO.

Minnesota Hockey divides association boundaries by school district but it has nothing in the bylaws and association affiliate agreements that mention an obligation to exclusively build up the local HS program.

MH and MSHSL are completely independent of each other.

It doesn't matter if a kid goes local school, open enrolls, private school, or is home schooled. Associations must treat all equally.

Remember this in regards to the whole C issue from last season. The players on the TEAM voted the player attending HM captain and the coach stood by their choice. It ultimately cost him his coaching position (I believe he now coaches for WBL Bantams).

This is crazy! But, not even close to the craziest. These are no doubt the same parents who decry what is happening in pro sports. Sorry state of affairs.

#1, 2 and 3 get choosen on talent. Not where they WILL or MIGHT attend.

I know Mark and Jon (co coaches last year Bantam A's), couldn't agree with you more. Sad, because they deserve better than that.

Sounds like Tyrell should go coach over in Stillwater. He needs a coaching job. He's got all the answers too.

what about their schedule

I know there was a lot of talk in the spring about the other top teams in the state not putting the ponies on their schedule. I was just wondering if any of them had changed their stance on playing Stillwater this year or if they caved in? Does anyone know?

With that being said, if those teams are holding tough as far as not playing Stillwater, what is the feeling of the parents and players in that association? Will it effect whether or not the second year kids will opt to play JV? Also, has there been any backlash towards the Stillwater board and/or the Varsity coach?

The Association pres. stepped down in August/September.

The Board has been revamped. For the better or not is to be seen.

I would do my best to develop the kids that are going to stay loyal to their friends, community, school.

What a crock of bull.

To heck with the kids that are attending a non-public school all of their lives. If you want to play hockey and have the talent to play at a high level, you must attend the school we, the association/coach/high school coach (who'll likely be gone in 2 years) deem appropriate. You owe it to your neighbors, your buddy you grew up with and the school your parents pay taxes for (that keeps asking for more and more). BS!

Youth hockey should be about developing good hockey players and putting together the best team possible regardless of where a kids goes to school. (I know it will never be this way). Nothing is owed to the community or high school.

Youth hockey SHOULD NOT be about putting the best team together just for the sake of winning. It should be about teaching the game and how to be loyal to your friends.

I bet that goes over big when trying to do fundraising. Does it go at the top of the letterhead?

Sounds to me like the kids who voted teh HM kid as captain were being loyal to their friend, feeling he was the one who best deserved to be captain.

This topic is semi mind boggling in the fact that some parents/coaches/players/spectators see the youth ranks as a developing for THE PLAYERS and some see it for the SCHOOL. The real question has to be asked, are we in it for the kids or are we in it for the school? I think that answer should be very easy to make but at the same point in time you, as a coach, have certain pressures put on by everyone to succeed and win games. This is a never-ending quest to figure out what is right in someones eyes.

I wish they had an emoticon that turned green instead of pink, I get very sick hearing about how its not good for the school to have a Bantam A private schooler play with public school Bantam A team(s). These are still kids and its still for the fun of the game. Hopefully its still fun after all is said and done so that they do not lose love for the best sport ever invented...

I'm sorry if this hurts for some of you, but I would do everything I could to develop the kids that are going to stay with their friends and represent the community and the community school.

There are plenty of other options for those kids that choose the private school route.

Options

Options? Please tell me what these options are. I would love to hear. MN hockey says you MUST play in the association that corresponds to you public school boundries.

There are tons of all star teams you can play on. Or maybe all the private school kids could make their own team or go over to Wisconsin and play.

Yep, great answer. I guess that MN hockey should just tell any skater who will attend a private high school, regardless of the reason, that they are not welcome to skate with the youth program in their neighborhood.
Hey why stop there? If little Johnny or Suzy go the local Catholic elementary school there is no way we should let them skate in our mite program. We need to weed out those kids right now so we can develop the ones who will stay here forever. Whats that, did I hear the Smiths down the street may be moving? I hope they cut that kid, he has no buisness taking up a spot on our top squirt team if he has not signed a contract saying he will never move, quit, get injured or go to a different school.

Get real, calm down and enjoy the season. Let the kids who make the team play, you never know what will happen next year or beyond.
