I may not be one of them but its not like I don't ever interact with any of them on the topics at hand.
Again, a Head Hockey Coach from a WCHA team does not spend many a night watching Hopkins hockey (no offense Hopkins). There was only one reason Mr. Lucia was in the stands.
It is kind of stating the obvious but apparently you need it stated.... they look at a lot of players during the season. Not all of them end up getting offers. They don't limit themselves to simply scouting the sure thing offers.
If it makes you feel any better, I would take Jordan Schroeder before either any day of the week.
I was never seeking your seal of approval on any of the players in question but thanks.

Didn't some kid from Thief River Falls go to that same third tier College and end up donating a $104 million dollar hockey facility to that same college late in his life?
Perhaps that money would have been better spent on improvement of the overall academic strength of the institution instead of a hockey facility???
Every university can point to specific individual alumni who have done "well";
HOWEVER, the national academic ranking status of UND (Again, THIRD TIER) is based on the total success of ALL its graduates (and drop-outs).
At last glance, the average graduation rate from UND is less than 50% of the total student body....
Have you been to that campus recently?
I would imagine that the Mattson's put great thought into the academic piece before saying yes to UND.
Congrats again Danny!

You have coffee with the coaches? Did they share the rumors about Nate Hagemo and Nick Larson found on your blog while sipping coffee at Starbucks?
"I tend to shy away from rumors on this blog"
You are a person with educated opinions. Obviously, they are one sided.
Enjoy your day!

Not quite coffee. I actually did talk to one of them on both Hagemo and Larson but both situations were up in the air when I did (more so Larson though). So it remained a rumor at the time.
Maybe you'll get that kind of info from Grandpa Sports in the Star Trib a few weeks after it happens though.

No matter your college allegiance, it is interesting that UND has now added metro HS's to their recruiting territory. I can't recall the last recruit they had from the metro that wasn't playing at SSM/USHL/NTDP when they committed.
One factor may be that Coach Eades has been more involved in USA Hockey summer camps, which has given the high end metro kids early exposure to UND.

Oh so the asterisk is they could be from the Twin Cities before and have played for the Sioux but they weren't be in HS so now it is a trend of some sort?
Next thing you know, you'll say it is an interesting trend that they are landing kids from the Twin Cities that play in HS hockey and wear a certain uniform color.

You seem a bit edgy and sensitive...........too much caffeine? Not enough sleep?
If you are tied into the Gophers somehow, you want to get away from slamming people with differing opinions..............just a thought
Have a wonderful day!

Having a good laugh over somebody's comments is edgy? I guess we need to give you a hand book on smilie usage and their meanings.
You have to admit, it is kind of funny for somebody to act like some new ground is being broken simply because of the Twin Cities HS angle. It's not as if these are the first suburban TC kids to ever play up there.

You are correct sir!!!

Being from EGF, you are right BLOG.
There has been many a Twin Citian to wear a Fighting Sioux Uni.
The gophs and the sioux are both great programs and it is a great rivalry.
And yes, the campus at UND is looking pretty spiffy for a town of about 50 to 60K in the cold prarie.
And, by the way, to all interested, UND, has a great engineering program, among other things.
Just my 2 cents.

I think the UND Engineering program is pretty good,....but they may be better known for Business and Accounting, and especially Aviation.
With regard to Engineering, I don't think they had any alumni involved with the design of the recent 35W bridge that collapsed,......which cannot be claimed by some other institutions.

The Engineering firm that designed that bridge was from Missouri. Why won't they hire UND grads?

Casey Jones was an Alum?[/quote]
Hey Neut, check this out:
From Wikipedia the 2nd paragraph: (Who woulda thunk).
John Luther "Casey" Jones was born March 14, 1863 in southeast Missouri to country school teacher Frank Jones and his wife Anne. His exact place of birth is unknown. He was the first of five children. In 1876 his family moved to the small community of Cayce, Kentucky, which is how he eventually got his nickname. As a boy he developed a growing obsession with trains from hanging around the bustling train depot there. In 1878, at the age of 15, he went to work for the Mobile and Ohio Railroad as a telegrapher in nearby Columbus, Kentucky. Casey grew to be quite tall for his day at 6’4 1/2" with dark hair, gray eyes, and a slim build. His size and strength made him a natural for the often brutal work of railroad life.
After several years he moved to North Dakota where he attended engineering school at the University of North Dakota. He even dabbled in Hockey. Being as big as he was, it was well known that he was hard to move out of the front of the net
He next moved to Jackson, Tennessee, still in the employ of the M&O as a flagman. There he stayed at a boarding house for railroad men run by the mother of his future wife who worked there as well.[1][2]
It was at the dinner table in this boarding house that John Luther Jones became "Casey" Jones. Bose Lashley, a brakeman for the M&O, looked up from his dinner plate one day and spoke to the gangly lad who had entered to be seated:
"What's your name, son?" he asked.
"John Luther Jones," the young man replied.
"Where are you from?"
"Cayce, Kentucky."
"Well, sit right down Cayce, and make yourself at home!" Lashley rejoined.[1]
It was common practice at the time for railroaders to give fellow railroaders nicknames to make it easier to tell them apart from others who had the same name. Though Casey spelled his name "Cayce," his wife spelled it "Casey" in the letters she wrote, which became the accepted spelling of his name.
Casey performed well and was promoted to brakeman and then fireman. His work in Jackson primarily involved freight service between Jackson and Water Valley, Mississippi. Both locations were busy and important shops for the Illinois Central Railroad and he developed close ties with both between 1890 and 1900.
Quite a Legacy!!!

I try to stay in the shallow end. Jacobs Engineering from CA purchased a MO company that designed the bridge in 1997. Thats as deep as I go.

No, there's another side to the monument that is only visible from the Air Base.
